    I have an 02 as well. Got it in 04 with 16000 miles on her. Currently, I have over 264000! Best dependable vehicle I’ve ever owned hands down. No one believes me when I tell them I have the original starter! Around 5 years ago I replaced the original alternator! 6 months ago replaced the original water pump! Nothing major just wear and tear items. It’s a Z71 model. Very blessed with this truck. Enjoyed your video! Thanks for sharing 👍😎

    I feel your pain on the fuel pump. I did that exact thing with my fuel pump. Headlights the same as yours. Just today I replaced both front window regulators. 2002 Chevy Avalanche, 290,000 miles and not a spot of rust. Stainless brake lines, exhaust and driveshaft. Driver's seat ripped but interior not too bad for a work truck. And this puppy gets to 100MPH pretty quick too...lol

      I've got an 03' with 306,886 miles runs like a top! If you are smelling fuel and from that side it may be you gas pressure sender I had to replace mine. The fuel pump has gone out twice on mine I would be interested to see how you create your cheat access door. There's a company that rebuilds the Abs box for $150.00. Now the brakes are the one thing I've NEVER been satisfied with would be interested to see what you do to yours. To bad I can't send you pics of mine the cladding on all of them fade there are some fixes on CZcams I've seen but I know how well they work believe it or not simple Armorall will work wonders but doesn't last very long. I purchased mine off the show room floor and have been OVERALL VERY SATISFIED!😊😎👍🏾

    Love these trucks. This is going to sound weird but use a heat gun to cure the oxidation on all of the plastics. I have done it on a few now for friends. It never fails. I know using heat to cure a problem heat creates sounds weird, but it TOTALLY works. Keep the gun about 4-6 inches away so you do not burn the plastic and keep it moving.

    • @juliepdem5275
      @juliepdem5275 Před 3 lety +8

      I've been warned against using the heat gun method. Heat gun is pulling oils from interior of cladding to exterior, and when it fades again (which it will) the cladding begins to peel off like alligator skin/scales. Best to use other methods.
      (Not an issue on my 2002, as previous owner installed a body kit mod.)

    My mechanic is selling a 2005 Avalanche with 140k. He just rebuilt the transmission, the well known problem for this model year, but the body is solid, no rust, no damage and the interior is looking good, though he is trying to get as much as he possibly can for it at 8K. I like it, it drives so nice and runs like a seasoned vehicle, just wish it was a little cheaper.

    Next time look in Florida for one, I see these all the time rust free with just a bad trans for around $1500. I looked at one in great shape with 120k, just had a slipping trans for $1400.

  • @gqftoast
    @gqftoast Před 10 měsíci

    For the cladding getting faded all you need is 60% boiled linseed oil mixed with 40% mineral spirits applied with a clean rag. Its cheap and last as long as all the other commercial products for this problem. It dry's to a hard finish, in other words its not oily at all after a few hours of drying. If its really bad maybe two coats will do ya. Dispose of the rag carefully because its flammable if improperly stored best to rinse and wash it I think.

    Your video was fun to watch and thank you. Obviously you live where it is cold and the Avalanche had Ohio plates so I suspect you live in Ohio. Wow the rust and other wear-and-tear. My 2002 Avalanche was bought new and has never left Arizona except for a few days. I'm very amazed at how much damage salty roads cause. My Avalanche has no rust, and with a little bit of cleaning, would look pretty much new in the engine bay and underbody. Over the years I've thought of selling it since I hardly use it except as an airport car. Yet, I have taken to cleaning it up with the new lights, Wipe New the plastic, and replacing all shocks. I'll probably adjust my parking break when replacing the rear shocks. My 2002 Avalanche has been a fantastic truck and I love driving it every so often.

By the way, the plastic trim are called claddings.

    For your plastic trim take a torch to it but don't hold it in one spot tool long. I have a 2005 Chevy Avalanche Z71 and I did it with a blow heater like everyone suggested but it took forever to het a tiny aria done but torching it made it look brand new and I at first didn't think it would work. Dude mine is the almost opposite of yours you had cloth interior amd I leather yours was clean on the inside mine looks like a tiger got lose I did clean it up real good so the flooring is spotless actually I ended up cleaning a vomit stain in the back middle area so that was fun to get put lol so now the interior just has a shredded roof only the driver side seat is left to be repaired and my dash completely caved in but I already got the parts coming in for it
    For the exterior mine has zero body rust and the Frame is great I think that's only really a problem for Northern trucks being exposed to snow and salt being kicked up but the trim is obviously fadded not uncommon in this truck but I'm fixing that today one of my trim pieces (or body armor) came lose at the base but I got that glued down and I need to glue down my rubber seal in the tool box/cooler another piece of the body armor was complete missing fortunately I was able to find it online and the grill had been smashed in buy I fixed that the day I started working on the truck and for the tail Gate I have the same problem as you you gotta take some plyers and grab onto both of the little screws that look like they just sticking out and pull on them lol 😂

      All it amounts to is a hole cut in the floor right above the center of the fuel tank where the pump is located. You cut a neat hole and make a piece of sheet metal a little larger than the hole, secure it with some screws and seal it with some silicone caulk.
