- In this video Geoff from @GeoffBuysCars and Tony from @Evcarnage sit down to go through 30 cars from Autotrader for less than £2,000.
We'll talk you through why each car is worth buying, and have some banter around the houses at the same time.
There's a Tourag that's actually a Lamborghini, a debate on whether an Audi TT or Mini Cooper is the better handling car, an argument about a purple Skoda, some surprise love for Peugeots, a Panama hat and a very very rude word Oh, and there's also a whole lot more too.
It's a long one but a fun one from Tony and Geoff.

When I hit 115,000 subscribers I'll be giving away A WHOLE REAL PETROL CAR in a treasure hunt. So do hit that subscribe button.
You're BOTH funny!!!
But relax, looks aren't everything 😅
Randomly Geoff, having used them in the trade, Auto Smart products are great for cleaning vehicles.
Autoglym for example are sh*t. Trust me, I've used different products 😊🙏♥️
Geoff love the show. Do you ever look at camper vans. I’m a senior citizen and don’t have a lot of spare ££ and would be interested to know what you think. Kind regards Nanny E x
Flaccid 😁
You two are better than any telly car presenters
"You two are better than any telly car presenters.............long pause..............in the world"
^had to FTFY^
Sorry....me I'd put them alongside Jezza, Little Dick and Capt Slow
I had 2 xA6’s, a golf and a Passat and the rotary switch rattled in all 4….
@@philhunt9297 I was expecting the dacia to be announced with: ...GOOD NEWS!...
We've found the next top gear team
Just bought a BMW 320 D 140,000 no mot £800. It cost £260 to pass mot there absolutely no rust on any panel the seats will need a wash when the weather warms up but I'm very happy
Good luck with your new car. 👍
Great buy! What year?
Well done Vicki, some great bargains always to be had. Good luck and enjoy your new ride.
Do yourself a favour, check the timing chain.
A true eco warrior 👍🏼
Love these two together. So much fun haha
Have you found the trifecta Geoff? Another genuine, honest and funny guy 😁
The Cornish definitely say it like it is.
.....and judging by the back of his phone he's an Irons supporter? Gone up more in my estimation.
Just over a year ago, I got a 2010 civic 2.2cdti, 103k, for £1550. The last owner was a HGV mechanic. Before he arrived I looked underneath and he'd been puting it on a ramp and cleaning it. Best I ever did.
Good as those chassis rust out, mine did
Hi Geoff,i bought my nearly 20 year old MK 1 FOCUS for £900.00 in 2018 at 145500 miles. Its now done 238500 miles. A work colleague seems to think it might have had a new engine in its life. However even so,how many miles had it done before the nearly 94.000 miles that ive put on it. Still very reliable. Regular oil changes every 6 months. Very tatty but still legal, passed its MOT with a couple of advisories. Good for another year.
Picked up a t plate Corolla, vgc for age. Full ticket, 4 tyres & a full tank for £330.
Probably the best engineered car in the world.
I see multi-drop parcel delivery who buy a small van liveried in a £85 HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE rear door.
Park anywhere, no challenge, no photo complaint.
Working smarter not harder.👍
I'm getting a bit of old school Top Gear nostalgia from this 😁
Mr Carnage is a total legend. More of Tony please here as well Geoff. Already subbed to him anyway!
Two people talking cars who actually know what they are talking about. Great video.
Really? Old euro cars are very risky, failed electronics and all that = BIG repair costs and lots of down time, the jags: lots of problems with cam chains and tensioners, Mini's: fun if you can v afford the repair bills, all those french V6 diesels: stay away. Alfa's JTS 2.2, Don't want that engine.
And so on.
The only car in that selection worth owning was the Lexus. Bullitproof cars. If you don't want a Lexus SUV then get an iS, GS or LS
I've spent many a 'warm snuggley night' in the back of a berlingo😊
Awesome piece of kit 👌
And plenty of room for two😉😁👍
When buying cars at this price it is best to keep things as simple as possible. Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar and Audi for example are not the most reliable brands and are a big gamble when they are a few years old and are best avoided unless you have a few grand as back up for repairs (and that completely defeats the object of buying a "cheap" car.) If your budget is £2k buy something that is less complicated and has a good reliability record (Toyota, Honda, Suzuki or Mazda.) In the meantime, you can then save up some more cash and buy something more luxurious later.
Geoff this is THE BEST partnership you have done, sack off Lee, this guy is comedy gold and brings out the best. A hugely entertaining watch and the Astra van was just asking to be put to mischief. Love it, love it, LOVE IT. take care guys - stay safe. FLACID
Recently at my Jag specialist an X300 XJ6 executive, a metallic british racing green, cream leather interior, full service history, 75000 miles. Body was immaculate. £1995.
My last car was a 56 Reg Honda Civic 2.2 litre Diesel, best car I owned for £1100 with 135,000 miles on the clock and zero failed MOT's, unfortunately I ended up selling as I lost my job and couldn't afford to keep it on the road...
I drive a 1999 Seat Toledo 1.8 20v petrol car. I bought it in 2008 for £1800 and it is still lovely to drive. Great video guys.
Brilliant video. Spotting the sleepers out there in 2024. Lets be fair..there are a lot of bargains to be had if we ignore the resale value and depreciations and expect £500 repair bills once or twice
Travelled from Northumberland to Kendal and back yesterday in a VW Toerag, brought a 1938 Chevy Sedan back on a trailer towed by the Toerag. Faultless journey, did it without having to stop for fuel either
Falcid 😂 Geoff with Tony is like Bob with mortimer. Love it 😂😂😂🫡
I had an 2010 Alfa 159 ti sportwagon 2.0 diesel in Rosso red. Stock, it was 170bhp and 259lbs/ft of torque. Had it for 4 and a half years and absolutely loved it. Rare as hen's teeth as well.
We own a 159 3.2 ti q4 👍 like yours hens teeth
No one is talking about complete lack of depreciation on everything you're talking about.
Free motoring.
I wish I had heard you warn about Birmingham sellers, three years ago!!!!!! Expensive story...😪
You sods! You've got me trawling Autotrader and I need to be doing other things!! ;)
My everyday car is an old C1 with a turn handle for the windows. It makes me feel like I'm 17 again and I love that!
I have owned a 2007 Merc CLS320 3.0 CDI since 2010 and it is bullet proof!
I'm pretty sure it was the X Type that was based on the Ford Mondeo and not the XF.
The XF was based on the S-type. The x-type was the Mondeo in drag
Yep, the X Type was based on the Mondeo, where as the XF looks like one.....
Geoff, you're such an inspiration to me keep up the great work.
Yes he's such an inspiration for me to keep working
I used to inspect cars for a living for AA, RAC, Trading Standards and Courts and I have never approved a CAT C car fit to purchase. The main reason apart from bad repairs is the salvage yards move these cars with a fork lift and damage the structure in particular the box sections of chassis. While they don't really effect the car on day to day use but in crash they play a big role in how the car holds up because any damage to them greatly weakens there longitudinal strength.
Good information.
Thanks 😊
SUPERB VIDEO, two blokes chatting about cars and having great fun in the process.
You bounce off each other exceptionally well and it makes superb viewing.
Put a big grin on my face as I suspect it did many other viewers.
Enjoyable vlogg Geoff. Funny, entertaining & quite thought provoking re value for money motoring. Well done guys 👍
This is what we need
Cars if this vintage used to be in a section called jalopy corner in our local newspaper and were usually priced anywhere between £25 & £500 😅
Very Thought provoking and useful. Very Entertaining too. Great Video. Thanks Both.
Just to bust the Mondeo myth ,and to be pedant, that was the x type. The XF was basically an updated S TYPE and shared it's platform with the last Ford Thunderbird. None of this matters of course as they are all the better for the platform sharing.
To be pedantic…..or to be a pedant.
Not to be pedant.
Gents this was absolutely fantastic fun hope you can do more things together

Gold! What a great chat..😂 Flacid... love to banter.
Merkin😂
Great vid. Good to see u do something with someone who has a clue.....
I'm an alfa lover, started with 155 2l t spark, had a 164 2l and final was 159 sportwagon ❤ never fancied the Brera fancied the GT.
Check the Toureg for noises from the front diff as they have tapered bearing in the differential and they can wreck you diff if they wear out. It's a very expensive job to repair.
Just Brilliant. Laughed so much (in a good way). Many thanks for this.
You two need a TV slot! Most informative and very entertaining.
There is an TV ad here in New Zealand which shows people shopping for older cars. An expert then tells them what potentially could happen to them in an accident based on the cars crash safety record. The context of the ad is to make people aware of the safety and real world crash data available in helping decide what second hand cars to buy and what to steer clear of. NZ has a shocking road toll.
Add safety into the mix of reliable, functional and cost.
This was a brilliant video Geoff, really enjoyed watching you and Tony just going through the back ends of autotrader, watching people do what I spend a lot of my time doing anyway who would’ve thought that would be good 😂
Ah! A re-incarnation of proper Top Gear, Geoff, Tony and Mr. Macmaster, that will work! Excellent video again!
Cat C, D, N or S, the most net environmental car you can buy because it would otherwise get crushed so somebody somewhere would have to make a new one they now don't. Should be zero road tax for a resurrected vehicle in these days of green (sorry Geoff!)
I've got the 2003 Golf tdi in black ! Excellent motor. Decent speed. Never much of a problem. Good mpg. Not ULEZ compliant.
I was given a company ute (Toyota Hilux table tray) to drive to and from work, it used to be driven by the warehouse manager. When I got it it was an ashtray on wheels. It took me a few weekends to clean it, the hood lining when I got it was tan coloured. After a good spray with diluted engine degreaser and a good going over with an upholstery cleaner I realised the hood lining was grey.
This episode proper hits home. Live in liskeard and loving seeing Tony from Cornwall. Rep to Cornwall 💪
Just a note on the Jag XF, because im a Jag fan/anorak, the X-Type is the one based on the mondeo. The XF is based on a Lincoln LS
Flacid
My father has a Touareg - it's lovely - smooth, comfortable for me at 6'2 LOTS of leg and head space, good sized boot, bit heavy on the fuel and the tyres are £200 a corner, so there's that - but a nice smooth ride.
I have a Citroen Berlingo XTS 2009 bought for in 2016 for £3,000 with just 63k on the clock - it's cost me about £2,000 to get a few things done, but it's been perfect and reliable as my work vehicle as a handyman. Some people have even converted them into small campers and buy interior kits to do that.
My favourite is MBW out of all those car but love the Vauxhall Cabreolay Yellow
I loved my Mk4 Golf, so cheap to maintain (eBay) and practical too. I put a Kawasaki ZXR250C in the back and travelled 1000km to get it home at 6.2l/100km (1.6 BFQ 5speed manual). Replaced the radio with a double DIN eBay jobby with GPS & Bluetooth and that car could do everything, and the handling was something else
I've never ridden a 4 cylinder 250cc.
Great video, very flacid! Out of those I'd take the Mondeo. But I've actually got a 2010 golf blue motion estate. Bought recently for 2200
DICALF.
We did it.
David and Lily.
And missed our train to EXETER. Lived there twice.
Very entertaining 45 mins, I now have a flacid mirkin, thanks gentlemen :) (subscribed to both)
I really enjoyed that geoff, thanks very much
Wow amazing selection Loved -LOVED- Those 2 Alfas!! Especially the black 159!!
Made to end...Very 'flacid' and Always Mercing lol
I had a 1.5d Clio hire car. Did Leeds to Alsager (near Stoke) and back for £12 👍
Excellent stuff fellas , can you do another at 5k? Would be so informative
"Flacid" (nice word - rolls off the tongue) 😊
Interesting - seeing all those cars and their details
👍 Geoff
There you go Tony, I've just subscribed to EV Car-Nage and will watch you next !
Ditto
Great video chaps. I'm looking at getting a second car. Some very good ideas!!!!
Some good reviews mixed in with great entertainment, great job you two 👍
By the way, I just checked out the MOT record on that blue BMW 320! What a crock of excrement 😬
Loved the video enjoyed it so much my eyes have gone flaccid.
Flacid.. Is me bro Tony on 'acid' Yo ! .. Excellent guy's.. Very entertaining and a few unexpected accolades for some cars I'd never have considered when sober.
Positively flaccid here, Geoff.
Also, I've got an E46 that's made that buzzing behind the dash when the car is turned off ever since I bought it almost 10 years and over 100K miles later with no issues seen as a result of the buzz.
407 coupe. Agreed. Fond memories. Great video lads!
Geoff great video 👍but got to pull you up on a couple of things lol. Xf jag isn't based on a mondeo also the alfa 159 ti does come with another engine option a 3.2 v6
VW Toureg listen to any strange noise from the front axle as they have tapered bearing that wear and start shedding fine metal particles which if left unchecked will destroy your front differential. It's about an 11 hour job to change them.
Enjoyed and very informative. Tony did make me laugh.
I bought my missus a Lexus is300h 2.5 and it is brilliant, 900 miles on a tank full!
Slightly of topic ..but if you need a rear beam for your Renault 11 I have one. It was actually bought for your car years ago!
My dad owned E698HRW from 2004 to 2021.Sold it due to ulez expansion.
Obviously very fond of it and! It was great.. I have 2 11s myself so can do my best help with any parts 👍
Oh! I might need that! Email me!
My 2k MX5….. best thing ever for smiles per miles. Great vid guys 👍
I had an MG ZR 1.4 as my 2nd car. Loved it. Wished I could have it back because I part exchanged it for a… brand new Mini Cooper S.
Hey Geoff!! ... a version of this video about good cheap cars in the United States would be awesome... Can't find a decent X5 here for less than about 6-8K, for instance.
Keep doin it mate! Thank you.
Great video, very entertaining 👍🏻
Recently bought a 2007 Mazda5 2.0 petrol T2 for my mum for a 1000, needed to put few hundred for it to pass the MOT, as well as set of new tyres. Sure it looks ratty and drinks a ton of petrol, but it is a bit of a sleeper, very fun to drive and can haul 6 people around
4WD means complicated and if it only cost £2000 it means expensive to put right. At this price you want as simple as possible. Great fun to watch two blokes talking about cars (real cars not milk floats!) Keep at it both of you.
Great vid Geoff, thanks.
That was great entertainment...... Please do another double act! I actually replayed 2 bits.
The Vaping ( I might just show my 3rd child this both he and his GF vape......)
And the Vegan motorist!
Brilliant 😂
Great video
You won’t find a petrol V10 Touareg though they are all diesel. Think Japan got a very limited run on W8 but they are huge money if around
Nice video, very funny and entertaining. Lifts the mood.
Bravo GBC, a winning format with EV Carnage, that one kept me chuckling.
On a downside, the best looking and most suitable poseurs’ cat, the Alfa Brera is also the worst car there, it was slow as hell, handled like a wheelbarrow of spuds, rode like a Model T and cost a fortune to maintain. I’d still have one though because most people don’t know that.
Vauxhall Belmont SRI, Astra with a boot. Brilliant car. Manual headlight adjustment for driving on the continent. Used to drive from Gatwick to Sheffield for the job, long story. No motorway speed cameras back in the day and from full, had to fill the tank around Leciester to complete the journey. But apart from the Opal Manta GTE, best car ever.
I have a lexus es300h, 60 mpg on the motorway at just over the speed to keep away from middle lane huggers. Serviced at lexus with a free warranty every year. BTW, I came from a Jaguar XJ 17 , great car, but stratstone could not fix.
They used to have those basic white Dacias running around Gatwick about 5y ago. 1st and 2nd got ragged and that was about it due to the speed limits haha
Flaccid.
Since the EV'S came out I have shown a greater interest in older cars. I love this video. ❤
NEW VIDEO IDEA! Cars you wished you'd kept...
I used to have a Nissan 200SX S14a tuned up, coil-overs, 280bhp, Skyline stuff bolted on, looked fairly standard.
Wicked car. Properly entertaining. Cheap to run and reliable!
Got 4k when someone else wrote it off... Would be worth over 30k now if I still had it!
Years ago I valeted cars for a Toyota delaler and they took a BMW 3 series in that had been smoked in. Nicotine or whatever was coming off the windscreen like tarmack. The only way I could get it clean was keep soaking it with rag soaked in hot water. Gutwrenching never forgotton it and that was in the 1980s.
Brilliant 👍
I have a 70 reg corsa SRI I have been told they stopped making them now. New astra it has the same engine as the corsa.1.2 turbo the corsa will be Quicker as it’s a smaller lighter car.the SRI only has sport mode with the manual box and lots of shiny things .👍
Well that whole thing made me a bit 'Flacid' ! Ha😂
Seriously though as an Aussie I'm jealous of some of the engine options you guys got that we didn't over here, agree totally on the Vauxhaul thing, however you need to remember the Monaro was a Holden, GM killed the brand by turning the commodore into a Vauxhaul insignia that nobody bought, to tank sales.
Nice one boys very entertaining 👏.
Great video Geoff, enjoyed it ...🤔😏😀🇬🇧
Ive been in a Berlingo with an extra bench fitted. 8 men sardined together on a motorway at 90mph. 😬
Every time I watch a Geoff video I get served multiple Land Rover EV adverts. 😂
Be nice to see if any ULEZ friendly in this bunch . Also love the RRL you wear , or I think you do anyway hard to tell 😀🙃
The MacMaster's days are numbered. Tony is great!!! I just bought a 2004 motorbike for less than £2k. It's nice, not flacid.
Earlier in the video you mentioned the Peugeot coupe with double glazing.
It’s worth a mention that although the drop glass is tough like the windscreen, on the very edge it’s extremely fragile to say the least. If you clip it with a wrist watch or your key ring at it gets even the tiniest of chips on the very edge the window is f@@ked. It will split. A replacement is usually very expensive.
It’s almost like 2 sheets of greenhouse glass laminated.
Your right the front door glasses are laminated , not double glazed which has air space between the two layers,,,,
