thank you to @americanvintage5060 for providing the original audio
• Misfits - Archangel (A... - Hudba
At 16 years old I was in love with this song. At 53 years old, I still am. Must say something.
danzig wrote a thousand great aongs but this is one of the best
totally agree.
Most definitely
I agree.
Sick
Well.
Just shows that someone can play guitar intricately and 100 miles an hour, but most of the times these musicians can't compose a great song to save their lives. During Glenn Danzig's days in The Misfits and Samhain, the songs were so great, and timeless despite being easy to play. I first bought Initium in 1986 when I was 16 years old from a used record bin because of the morbid cover. This was before I heard anything from The Misfits. Initium has remained my favorite album from Danzig's entire catalog, and Archangel my favorite song after all these years. (I'm now 54).
This is why I've been addicted to youtube for 15 years. I've never been spoiled with music like this ever in my life. Thank you for putting this collection together and sharing it with us.
thanks you so much! that's awsome to hear, I started uploading videos to youtube because alot of my favourite songs weren't available on here and I wanted a way to more easily access them. it's nice to know other people share my appreciation for these songs.
Honestly, I started watching CZcams because I love live music soo much. I've gotten soo spoiled by CZcams that studio recorded songs, to me anyway, sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Live recordings seem soo much more sincere. You can hear the spontaneous emotion and feeling of the moment while it's being played. There are some songs I have saved on my favorites ten different times of that one song because each one has nuances to it that makes each one unique. That's gotta make me sound nuts but, at this point, I don't care. Lol!
I was in the 5th grade when I started listening to the Misfits and Damhain. I'm from western Massachusetts and basically grew up in Albany and Troy, New York when I was in highschool during the Hardcore scene in the 90's. My friends and I lived at a club called the QE2. All of those old shows were recorded and posted on CZcams.
@Bobbyboom413 haha I can totally relate to that! I have a bit of an obsession with live recordings of songs and I have small but growing collection of them saved on my computer.
We need more Samhain songs!!!!!!
"Power, Pride, Contempt, and Lust,
All these things I give to you"
- love the lyrics.
As much as I love The Misfits, this is the best thing Danzig ever did.
totally agree. for the most part I find that samhain can be a little bit repetitive, but the songs which break away from their traditional sound are some of the most beautiful and unique songs I've ever heard.
Go listen to Cough/Cool again.
he really captures sodom and gomorrah, fire and water, etc etc. he really is a deep dive
Definitely my favorite song that Danzig has ever written.
The dude is such an enigma… works so hard to be evil, and creates angelic music like this (pun unavoidable)
I totally get what you mean! this is the exact reason why his more beautiful songs are my favourite.. they totally contradict his whole persona that he puts out and therefore feel more special kinda.
he's an interesting guy for sure. its really impressive when you consider he was the songwriter and main creative force in the misfits, samhain, AND danzig. writing the songs and singing for just one of those bands would be enough to make him one of the greats, let alone all 3
@@warshipsatin8764 not only that, but he kept pushing the music even when execs told him it was garbage.
Bobby Steele is a force to be reckoned with as well ...
Never forget The Undead
The Christian mass is a black magic necromantic cannibalistic ritual of the dead.
Already in that Halloween mood, need some Samhain...and this is perfect.
amen.
Heaven sent me here to you,
And if a-you a fear you've reason to,
Blood love this track!
This song is my anthem!
Thanks for the upload Samhain is my all-time favorite and I always love hearing demos
Glenn wanted a tune those new wave chicks could dance to. Total Joy Division influence on him here. That Beastie boys producer stripped alot of color from Samhain. No sleep till Brooklyn.
this was originally a Misfits demo that was repurposed for Samhain and ultimately shortened for Initium
huh I didn't kbkw that, cool!
Had it in High School on a mix tape from my friend in California...
@@smallearth115 literally the last video of the version with jerry only on bass got deleted a day or two ago
He and Jerry recorded it together in 3/1981 at Mix-O-Lydian Studio, Boonton, New Jersey.
This incredible song and Danzig kills me. You hear this, it’s beautiful and haunting, he’s singing about an angel coming down from heaven. It could be an ethereal love song. But then you really hear it and realize it’s about Satan ending the world and it becomes even better.
Samhain's best song from the 1st album! Nuff said
Power pride contempt and lust. All these things I give to you.
It's been said that this song was meant for Dave Vanian to sing. Probably why it's much different than Glenn's other work.
I cherish this song
Excellent rock/pop tune.
This is better than the original and that was next to impossible
I love this song thanks for sharing
Samhain is basically Danzig before Danzig and after Glen left The Misfits!!
yeah and because of it it has a uniquely awesome sound

Where did u find this? U deserve more subs
thanks! link to the original is in the description, it was given to me by someone who had watched my original video and was wondering why it didn't feature the solo.
For over 30 years I thought "defiant brood" was "the fire that burns" or "the fire that builds" lol
Tiffany
Gonna have to borrow this😂😂😂
feel free!
This is lowkey groovy
highkey very groovy
This sounds almost exactly like the version on the album. I do hear some slight echo in the back ground.
it could be my mistake labelling this version as a demo, the site I pulled the audio from labeled it as such and I've heard versions of the song which I believed to be the album version however, they may have just been alternate mixes.
Same version I had, on cassete, in 88
Im 50 yrs old and loved this shit in high scho😅ol before you were even born. Went to shows, brawled with punk rockers, skins, metalheads, goth bitches and all types of poser fucks. But I never got the tattoo. Couldn't afford it. My tattoos are my scars. Glad you feel tough young guy for having a fucking tattoo.
lmao what, who are you talking to? very cool that you where clearly pretty deep in the early punk scene but idk what your going on abt tattoos for.
@@headlessgirl99 know girls at work who say they don't make enough money to feed their kids. Then come back 3 days with a fresh $500 tattoo.
Ah, yes! Just like all the women in my family! Loads of tattoos but forever *BROKE!*
such a enigma like when he was this age performing without trying to be this new dazing shit like Samhain is the misfits done straight and its got a sex appeal acting like a gothic biker didn't do for him.
its funny but sad because Danzig has elements that made him a stand out and hes more creative than hes probably allowed him self to be.
this is a different mix of the finished track, not a demo.
I heard somewhere that this recording it was Jerry only playing bass
I've never heard that before, that's really cool if that's the case.
@@headlessgirl99 from I heard archangel was originally meant for Dave Vanian of the damned to sing back in i wanna say 1981??? I think, and there was an original recording but the official samhain one has 2 bass tracks
@@devinallen4708yes that is correct but that never happened and was gonna be for a future Misfits project but Glen ended up taking it to Samahin instead
@@josecano9210 the recording never had Jerry?
@@devinallen4708 not sure on that one it may have well the 1981 parts the finished product may have been only Eerie Von
Which recording is this from? czcams.com/video/IKvklFqTQxI/video.html I really love this version.
Danzig not making it onto Rolling Stone's top 500 guitarists list is a travesty.
Better than the album version. This doesn't fit into any genre of music. It's in a realm all of its own.
exactly what I love about samhain, this song the best example of just that
I cant wait until Ai can get a good grip on Glenns vocals. The dude has such an iconic voice. I would love to here him on random Post Punk songs along with different 60s songs.
I would love to have something like that for making Samhain songs for fun. His vocals were peak during Samhain, once he went solo I kind of lose interest
@russiangoose7053 oh yeah for sure he was at such a ripe age when he was doing Samhain. I liked the first few danzig albums alot. But his stuff with the misfits and Samhain will always be my favorite. Even once AI can fully isolate and restore his vocals, we'd be able to hear his true lyrics and bask in the glory of Danzig lol The Ai stuff is only going to get bigger and smarter within a few years. So I know it's going to happen eventually.
@@ShaoKahnsCousin you can really hear it on songs like The Howl, his voice is just unhinged and raw, but still somehow controlled. I almost wish though the misfits had kept going and continued the Earth AD direction although I know Danzig wasn't into that at the time. I also wish we had got a true 4th Samhain record, the one called "Grim". I've even got a rumored track listing for it and it technically exists in pieces. It would've featured a lot of reworked misfits songs and a few that ended up on Final Descent. To me Final Descent feels like Danzig performing Samhain, not true Samhain. Grim would've almost been like Walk Among Us 2 done by Samhain. I have a lot of the guitar tones and bass pretty close, at least is as close as possible without being in Bob Alleca's studio. He didn't really know how to handle recording rock bands so the Samhain recordings sound "bad" from like a recording and mixing standpoint but I love the vibe and nothing sounds as haunting and wicked as they do. Having an Ai voice of Samhain era Glenn would be amazing to mess with and make my own Samhain inspired songs because so far I've never found a singer who can match his voice in that era just in terms of energy and aggression and the way he would say certain words. Also if you're into Samhain and Misfits, check out Invisible Witches by Calabrese
yknow Id never thought about that till know but that's such a good idea haha.
@russiangoose7053 there's not many comparable to danzigs vocals and even song concepts. The dude is a musical genius. But there is still hope for a modern misfits/samhain type band to rise. It's only a matter of time. Seems like this new generation of musicians are masters of imitation. Oh yeah Calabrese is not too bad. Beastmaker covered arch angel it was pretty good instrumental wise. The vocals were great too but not comparable to danzig.
Just saw the original Misfits in July 2023, it was beyond what I expected, now I wish Danzig would reunite Samhain. P.S. I would like to introduce you all to Cemican, the song is called Yaotecatl, it's an indigenous Aztec death metal band from Mexico, give em a try
bet. typing that in now.
