I tell my cats, when I leave for work, that I have to go to work to get the kitty food. I don't think they make the connection, but I try to explain to them why I have to leave.

I was going to post this was how I understood Todd as well… then he reinforced how happy he is when you’re there, upstairs, near him and having cuddled him….. what a sweet, loving and smart furman … it’s both heartwarming and also very difficult knowing they miss us so… does your wife connect with him as much as you do?

I disliked travel when I had my (late) cat as well. I’m side sleeper, and she always slept on my hip. The first night I was home from a trip, she would somehow always wrangle me into sleeping flat on my back, and I would wake up to her sleeping on my chest, her face in my face, motor going full blast. I miss her still, more than 15 years later. ♥️
As someone who has owned both I can truly say that not all cats are as affectionate as Todd, many are a lot more like Glamour and so if a person has never owned an affectionate cat they just will never "get it" as finding a not so affectionate dog is WAY HARDER to do. But I'll admit when you do get the affection of a cat you darn sure know it's because they love you and not because of an inborn instinct to please. But regardless thank goodness we have ppl who love each or both because there's no shortage of dogs and cats who need us. Everyone PLEASE have your pets spayed or neutered!!
Through the 33 years I have been married ALL of our cats have BEEN AFFECTIONATE if not to me then to my hubby. We each have had a few cats who have chosen just one of us and the others who have chosen both of us.

If I told my cat “Dad go outside for treats” he would herd me out the door. We have to give him a treat when we are trying to put groceries away since he figured out that is when food gets into the house.
It amazes me how smart he is. He is extremely bonded with you. It is clear he doesn't want you to go and I thought it was so loving how you explained to him that you have to go to get food and treats for him.

Think of it this way: instead of replacing him, you are honoring him by saving the life of another kitty that needs a safe, happy home. I've lost a few cats in my life, because my family always had them, and we took in many strays. After one of my all-time favorites passed, I'm convinced that he advised the Cat Distribution System to send me this scared, thin little kitten that I've now had for 14 years. Your cat would want you to have that kind of love again! 🩶🐈⬛️🐈
As you well know, when our little kids are disappointed they _say_ they don't love us, but what they _mean_ is that Mommy and Daddy are _everything_ to them and they need us so very very very very much. I think Todd communicated that with you very well and you understood him perfectly ❤

Yesterday was the first time she was interested. What is funny is my cat Duchess looks a lot like Glamour.

My daughter had surgery last year and because the surgery was on her neck she could not let the cat sleep with her the night before. she told him She was sick and had go to the "people vet" and he could not sleep with her. He stayed downstairs on the ottoman that night. Normally he follows her upstairs. After she came home, she had to sleep in the recliner as she could not lay flat, and he stayed by her side in the floor. He was worried about her "ouch" she had. Her incision was big.
Oh, he loves you so much! It's so wonderful that he can speak to you with the buttons because when my cat was very frustrated she would resort to biting. It's been many years that she's been gone and I still miss her.

Saw the surgeon today. Gotta get a CT scan to make sure he can get it all. It isn't going to be a picnic but I am completely confident I've got the best guy because he was the best guy last time. People say surgeons are (whatever) but you know, this guy is really NICE. You all be healthy! and have a safe trip Todd's Dad! Return covered in glory, even if you can't tell anybody how heroic you were.

Ohhh, so much kitty cuteness….who could resist? Kitties don’t understand about “going to work” and “buying food” or kitty beds & toys. I love that you taught Todd to speak his kitty thoughts and you love him when he shares his sadness. Kitties definitely have feelings!
