Dependiendo de dĂłnde sea la Birria (Yo soy de Guadalajara)
Hi vannie I love your videos
When I went to New York, I remember getting off at the wrong subway stop and ending up in Jackson Heights. As a Mexican-American from San Diego, California, I was delighted to see Mexican stuff on the opposite side of the country.
Here's some more information in regards to some of the food featured in the video, if anyone is interestedâŠ
The breads used for _tortas_ are called _teleras_ and _bolillos_ and their origins are from the French _baguettes._ A lot of _pan dulce_ and other pastries from Mexico have French origins because the French invaded and briefly occupied Mexico back in the 1800s. _Cinco de Mayo_ actually commemorates the victory the Mexican army had over the French army at _the Battle of Puebla._ _Cinco de Mayo,_ however, is not Mexico's independence day. Mexico's independence day is on September 15 (at night, around midnight) and all day on September 16.
_Ceviche_ is originally from Peru but has become a staple in Mexican cuisine, especially in coastal towns and cities. What separates Mexican _ceviche_ from Peruvian _ceviche_ is the spiciness that Mexican _ceviche_ has and Mexican _ceviche_ is typically eaten on a _tostada._ I grew up eating a lot of _ceviche_ because my mom is from Ensenada, Baja California (birthplace of the _fish taco_ ) and since it's a coastal city that exports a lot of fish (mostly to Japan), seafood is the specialty there.
_Tamales_ are mostly a seasonal dish during the Christmas season up to February. On _DĂa de los Reyes Magos_ (January 6), if you get a little baby Jesus figurine in your slice of _rosca de reyes,_ you have to make or buy tamales for everyone on February 2nd.
Side note: The singular form for _tamales_ is _tamal,_ not _tamale._ In Spanish, an _-es_ is placed at the end of words that end in consonants to make them plural.
Another way to eat _birria_ that has gotten popular in recent years both in Mexico and in the US is mixing the _birria_ and its _consomĂ©_ (broth) with _ramen_ noodles and making _birria ramen (birriamen)._ _Birria ramen_ started in Guadalajara, Jalisco (where _birria_ is originally from) and popularized in CDMX (Mexico City) at a restaurant called _Caldos Ănimo_ and has since spread throughout Mexico and parts of the US.
Side note: _Ramen_ and instant noodles (especially _Maruchan_ ) are quite popular in Mexico. People usually add _Valentina_ hot sauce and some lime into their _Maruchan_ or _Cup Noodles._
Side note: Mexico isn't homogeneous, it's population (much like the US) is quite diverse. There are people that are of Mestizo, Indigenous, European, Asian, African, and Middle Eastern ancestry throughout Mexico. There are Asian communities (mostly Japanese, Korean, and Chinese) throughout Mexico in places like Baja California, Monterrey, Guadalajara, CDMX (Mexico City), and Chiapas.

Wow thank you for all this info. It was interesting to read more about Mexican food! :)
You have said almost everything right...except you can only have tamales on Christmas season.... i lived in distrito federal and estado de guerrero and we had tamales at almost every occasion, like well...all occasions!
Informative thanks
Rika is like the cool, don't F with me girl who protects the vulnerable TJ. đ
hearing yâall speak so well of Mexico food and the people makes my heart đđđđđđđ
where my Mexicans at haha

Mexican reporting here!
đđœââïž
Born and raised in Mexico đČđœ đ€đœ
I was dissapointed in NYC Mexican food until I ventured out to Jackson Heights. Those tamales look so good you have to have them for Christmas time.
The secret is to go to Mexican spots in gritty neighborhoods and immigrant neighborhoods
Make sure you actually see Mexican customers coming in and out of the restaurant
Make sure you hear Mexican music playing or hear Spanish-language radio playing
If it looks like a Chipotleish trendy modern restaurant...it isnt authentic Mexican
But honestly Mexican-fusion, Mexican inspired and authentic Mexican food are all good regardless...no such thing as bad food with the word "Mexico" in it
Viva la Razađđ€â€... love to see people enjoy what i eat regularly. i love all food but like most i love love my peoples food, nothing better...đČđœđČđœđČđœ

HAHAHA AW ty
Loveeeee this video already, your friend was spot on with what she said and speaks Spanish so well! Most of my jobs in my early work experience were in the food industry and every single place Iâve worked at would literally fall apart without Mexican people. Some of the most humble people ever and they look out for you for sure, amazing hospitality and they donât get enough credit.. regardless of where they work in the restaurant. Amazing, amazing people!
Rikaâs accent is perfect!
Wow Iâm in love with Rika đđđ

Everything looked very good but I am thinking if the spice level was too much for you I would have to pass on the tamales unless they have a tamer version haha. That chicken sandwich and the last tacos looked awesome. Stay safe and keep smiling
I regret not trying birria tacos before leaving NY after 24 years. That's definitely something I have to do when I come back to visit.
