    MadVR on an HTPC (running MPC-HC) has been pretty great for me. Probably not as good as dedicated equipment, but it's a good cheap option.

    • @railerswim
      @railerswim Před rokem +3

      Honestly just makes sense to do an htpc with the madvr renderer. More easily automated. Will accept prety much any filetype. Upgradeable, scalable. Can handle projecting at native res (for those wirh 4096 x 2160 projectors)

      Kris Deering is a Lumagen dealer what do you think he's going to recommend? Notice how Ryan says he works for MadVR - Deering pretends to be neutral but never discloses he is a Lumagen dealer.

      @BogaHomeTheater Před rokem

      @@DLPHomeCinema This is false. Kris disclosed immediately to me he was a lumagen dealer. Kris is not a shady individual as you are implying and has a track record of being one of the best calibrators in the country. There are many that prefer Lumagen. MadVR is not better for many.

      @@BogaHomeTheater Ok. I have watched him multiple times recommend Lumagen products without disclosing that he is a dealer of said products. He is non stop pushing Lumagen products on AVSForum to hundreds of readers that would have no way of knowing he is a Lumagen dealer. There is nothing wrong with him pushing the product that he sells but everyone should be aware of the potential / likely bias towards that product.

    @Laserdisc Home Theatre Lumagen have not incorrectly labelled the I/O's. gbps is throughput Ghz is frequency and is 1:1, 18gbps=18Ghz

      No its simply the owner of Lumagen refusing to admit that he made a mistake and continuing to perpetuate that mistake to the end of time.

    LOL $13,495 for the extreme and $8,000 for the pro? GTFO! A JVC NZ8 is $15k. The MadVR Envy isn't offering value.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před rokem +1

      Nigel with Absolute Ultimate AV uses an Extreme on a $450,000 Christie Eclipse projector. I bet Nigel would have a different opinion on its value.

      @BogaHomeTheater Před rokem

      @@Youthman I get what you are saying, and I love your vids btw, but if the value proposition only applies to people with 50K plus projectors, then there really isn't a value prop. I am saying this knowing full well I will be pairing a MadVR / Lumagen with my NZ8, but I won't be doing it for value sake.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před rokem

      When you get to this level, it’s never about value. Of course, there will always be the law of diminishing return. The same applies to every sport and hobbyZ

  • @DLPHomeCinema

    I don't know that "throttling" is an accurate description. Envy picks algorithms based on how much power it knows it has - Extreme has more power than Pro so **theoretically** it can pick higher quality algorithm's. In the real world though for 24fps films the Pro is identical to the Extreme as far as upscaling and tone mapping. The Extreme provides geometry correcting and upcoming MI but at this point it is not accurate to say that Extreme is doing upscaling or tonemapping practically better than Pro (at least for 4k24).

    I'm curious about something. I've noticed on the forums lately that there are a lot of posts where people are selling their Lumagens. Is it safe to assume that people are ditching those in favor of the MadVR?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před rokem

      I haven’t seen the used market but Nigel with Absolute Ultimate AV has completely switched from Lumagen to madVR. He has the Extreme connected to the Christie Eclipse at CEDIA 2022.

  • @kevenkohler761
    @kevenkohler761 Před rokem +2

    I have a Mad VR Envy Extreme paired with my Sony XW 6000. A friend of mine has the JVC NZ 9. We have compared them next to each other and everybody that sees them say that my Sony 6000 with the Envy Extreme looks better and the NZ9 is an awesome projector. That shows you the power of the Envy Extreme. It’s an absolute game changer. The people that are commenting negatively about the Envy have never seen it. It is expensive, but if you see how great it makes the picture, you would see why it is high priced.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for sharing your personal experience comparing the two.

  • @DLPHomeCinema
    @DLPHomeCinema Před rokem

    Also something to note that Pro and Extreme both have different GPU's in them now then they did at launch so the current Pro is more powerful than the launch Pro which means you are getting a much more powerful Pro today than you would have a couple of years back. This does not mean it will ever get MI or the other Extreme exclusive features but if all you are looking for is upscaling, tonemapping, and auto aspect ratio the Pro is a beast and way better than top of the line Lumagen.
