    hi Dave, u should use the manual shifter, make your rpm up to 6500 or even 7000 rpm and manually change the gear to get 0-60 around 6.5 or less..and also off your ac, give all the power to the engine...that the correct way to do 0-60 for auto transmission...

    I test-drove a Turbo Optima during a show and LOVED it. Inside and out the design is attractive. It's surprisingly easy to drive for nearly 300 horsepower. Looking forward to what the '16 model will be.

    @boostjunkie2320 Před 4 lety +1

    It's not just an auto transmission. It is a 6spd dual clutch transmission. If you turn off traction control, power brake to build boost and manually shift you can crack into the 5s. My Optima spins the tires even with control on. I have a 2013 Optima Turbo SXL

    Great video quality, just a little lack of input as far as the cars variables, such as traction control being on or off? Eco mode being engaged or disengaged? And how much gas Is in the tank, (weight)

    When the Stang GT got 225hp and hit low 6s 0-60s in 1987 us gen x'rs thought the sky had been reached. Amazing what is going on now with less than half that and in a reliable package to boot. Got my eyes on EV now. Be very glad when "no more 2000 moving parts!" is the norm.
    Love my 2013 Optima Hybrid even though it's just 200hp. LOL, 200hp back in the day was great. Now, average...
    Love ur reviews, Thanks

    I have the exact same car all you need to do is hit the drive mode button on the steering wheel and put it in sport mode you have the option to use the paddle shifters or use anything else or you can just drive in automatic in sport mode it’s really nice if you use the paddle shifters and you shift them at the right time I got mine up to 5 seconds

    Slow for 274 HP and 269 lb ft. I bet it is more like 245 hp and I believe the torque limit may be off also. Lastly, they do turn off traction control...right???. I own an EX 2012. Needed an ENGINE at 68200 I was notified professionally many apologies were made over the engine recall. . Now at 68,760. My car does 60 in 7.5 secs, with 217 HP and 191 lb ft. (tested at factory). I use ONLY synthetic Mobil 1 and I do have a K&N cold air intake. Oh, no matter HOW YOU DRIVE...you will NEVER get 24/36 fuel economy.

    These are not like the old turbo cars....These cars will not let you brake boost and has a torque management from a stand still making it look bad for a 0-60mph comparisons. This car will fly from a roll though! They have aftermarket ecu flashes that eliminate all these restrictions now.

    • @kpag3030
      @kpag3030 Před 8 lety +1

      Yeah. 40-70 it flies. I have a 2012 Optima and it's not even the turbo... Pretty good acceleration for the class in my opinion. Never done a 0-60, but I think it was rated around 7.5 for my model. I'm at sea level basically where I am, so I think I get just slightly better

    I seriously went back in forth in my mind to either buying the Optima 2014 SX Turbo (274HP) or the 2014 EX Eco Hybrid (engine and Hybrid battery combined 201HP). It was like my inner sensible adult saying buy the hybrid and get 520 to 580 mile on a full tank (35/39mpg) VS. go with the inner kid in me wanting the rush going from 0 to 60 MPH under 7 seconds getting 290 to 370 on a full tank(20/31mpg). I guess my inner adult won and I bought the EX eco/Hybrid. Glad I'm saving mpg especially with both the cars looking pretty much identical with very minor tweaks to the rims, trim and wheels (which I like no better then the other) and I can get to 60 just under 8 seconds ;-) Glad I made the right choice.

      +MotoBoy it's essentially the same in a lot of ways. Built on the same platform, but there are some little performance differences and tuning differences, and styling is for sure different. Despite being sisters, the two brands have been trying to differentiate themselves lately. I'm a fan of the Hyundai line and have owned hyundais and been quite happy with them...
      ...that said, I now own an Optima. Just liked it better than the sonata. Styling of interior and exterior and the overall driving experience was just a little nicer for me. I still really like the Elantras though and now that Genesis has branched off as a Lux brand, I'm very curious to see the evolution of these brands going forward. They have done some really great things the last few years and have been leaders in the segment recently at least on styling. I do think Kia/ Hyundai could learn from Mazda/ Honda/ ford on the sportier options. Midsize/ compact lines would benefit from great sport tuning imo.

But I chose the 6, because let's face it, Zoom Zoom! Dynamics is more fun, but to each their own. Drive a 6 and you'll see what I mean, interior quality is far more superior too.

    • @symawd
      @symawd Před 10 lety +1

      I own one too. I still wouldn't call it sport mode. Just because you can go to a higher RPM doesn't mean you are making more power. The engine's peak power is not at 6750 RPM. It's at 6000.

    • @KevinLChenard
      @KevinLChenard Před 10 lety

      None the less, it let you keep peak for about 500 RPM more.

    • @symawd
      @symawd Před 10 lety

      No it isn't. After 6250 there is a huge drop off in power. The power at 6400 is about equal to 3500 RPM.
      Now by taking that drop off in the earlier gear, you start at a slightly higher RPM for the next gear. The time difference would be negligible.

    Powerful engine, but has bad suspension, bad breaks, and mediocre transmission.

      Just that you know, I`m Korean, and see Kia automobiles every single second when I drive. Kia is basically an inferior re-badged version of Hyundai (Optima = Sonata), with different designs.
      And Hyundai-Kia cars tend to have subpar suspension, breaks and transmission. I`m not saying anything about their engines, though. Hyundai-Kia cars are unbalanced, in terms of performance.

      sjchun79 Just because you see one doesn't mean you know anything about them. Look at the awards the GDI engine has been given. I am very tough on cars and will now only buy KIA simply because they perform amazing for what they are built for and DO NOT BREAK!!!!!

      sjchun79 I don't think the cars are the same between here and there. Kia has its own plant in the State of Georgia where they build the cars and their own engine factory in the State of Alabama next to Georgia. Different specs for different countries, so the cars aren't going to be the same. I test drove a 2015 Kia Optima SX Turbo and thought the transmission was very smooth. I also test drove a Chrysler 200 with V6 and 8 speed transmission...that engine was powerful but the transmission was very rough shifting. It couldn't compare with the Kia.
