- How much money do you spend building a 7kg High-end Carbon Road Bike? I needed a lightweight climbing bike for my 5 day stage race in the Pyrenees (Haute Route 2022). I thought about going for rimbrake first but the parts were hard to get so went for disc anyway. I'ts build on the Winspace SLC 2.0 disc climbing frame with the new Lún Performance Hyper 2023 d38 Carbon wheels. I have good experience with winspace so far but how will this bike perform in a serious mountain race?

The best cable routing solution I've seen is the Aurum Magma which simply routes the cables under the stem and into the frame in front of the headset bearing. This makes it very easy to install, very easy to swap stems and spacers and very easy to service the headset all while keeping a clean look. The Tarmac and Allez Sprint are almost as good but route the cables through the steerer tube and top headset bearing.

I just built this same bike about a month ago. Disc frame set, I went D/A di2 12 speed, Winspace’s Zero integrated bar, Lun 2023 Hyper 38mm wheels. Mine built up around same weight, 15lbs with cages, etc. The build was very easy, no issues at all. The bike handles and climbs amazing. Super happy with my purchase. Compared to the big brands, the same weight climbing bike with D/A di2 would cost upwards of 10k Us. Can’t beat Winspace. They’re providing n amazing bike for a phenomenal price point. I’m getting a T1500 as soon as they’re available in my size for my next build. Great vid.

I built up my SLC2.0 Rimbrake, with Hyper wheels, Ultegra 12spd a month ago. Super happy, 7.1kg. The snappy feel and Supersix like handling is amazing, the bike feels the same is not better than my old top spec Supersix evo himod. In the future I would suggest a Hambini BB to be creak free and spin nice. Great build, great vid, thanks.

The bolts for the rear brake aren't too long, has nothing to do with the frame but with the fact that Shimano is counting on the rotor size adapter from 140/160mm rotors. If you leave that out, the bolts are too long of course. But another bit of weight saving by omitting the adapter :). Cool build!
yeah well we used the 140mm rotor and this required shorter bolts... (there are shorter shimino bolts but we didn't have them) also the groupset did not come with the adapter so its weird it comes with the longer bolts i guess..

I think I put in an image of the front chainrings. 36-50, 11-32 cassette.
In general I have everything Shimano so like To stay with Shimano so stuff is compatible. (Switching wheels etc)

Love your channel and the energy you bring to it. Was watching this video on the lightweight carbon build and am curious whether your Deda Superzero handlebar is the carbon or alloy version. I have the alloy version and matching Superzero stem on my old Tarmac. I'm considering the carbon version of the bars for a new build. Do you still like the carbon version and have they held up under use?
The bars are carbon. Stem is alu.
I don’t like the shape of the bars so much but in general it was a great combo and help up great.

Great video mate. Looking forward too the bike review and riding in the mountains. May a ask why disc and not rim? Could have been 6.5kg as disc a generally 500g heavier.
It was almost impossible to find the parts for rim brake setup at that time.
Also the disc gave me better security on shitty weather descents and it is worth more when i want to sell it. (Rim brake bikes are worth nothing 2nd hand)..

Thanks for the video man! Interesting stuff!, Personally, I would save at least about 2000 euros looking at your part list, as Id definitely don't want to spend 2500 euro on a groupset. I mean, sadly I have never rode with di2, but I doubt it would add 2500 times more fun to my riding if I would mount ultergra or even the new di2 105 groupset.
I wasn't planning to build a cheap bike, I wanted a top notch bike with the winspace frame! So dura ace it was!
i agree, for ride experience a ultegra groupset would work just fine.
Hi I was wondering what product the technician used tot clean the bike (the ratlle can) because I have some stubborn grease stains on the mat finish of my bike.
Don’t know. But classic brake cleaner will clean just about anything
Which Prologo saddle do you use? And why do you like it? I have been thinking of making that switch from my Specialized Romin.
Dimension. It was on the Cannondale supersix and i liked it so put it on my other bikes too
Since this is a lightweight setup, I would put rim brake Campy 11 speed Centaur on that bike, 38mm rims and it would probably come out something like 4K Euro (possibly less with a discount code!) and lighter and easier to travel with. But it is still very good this way and a good price.

Great video. I was about to go down on a pair of hyper 38’s but I am intrigued with what you say about the new unreleased ones in the video. Especially them being wider as I would like to run some 28’s but current external width is 26… doesn’t work with 105% rule. Do you know when these wheels will be released?? Very interested to know. The wheels I talked about in this video are the new 2023 hypers! (When I built the bike they were still unreleased)

Yes it comes with the bike!
There are 2 holes I filled with black silicone kit (the front brake hose on top of the front fork) but the plugs for holes for the shift cables are provided
Sunday morning with coffee and this video = Great! Winspace is probably the only way to go to get a super bike at an acceptable price these days.
6 years ago I got a similar deal, 5500 euros, for a fully built Focus Izalco Max size 56 with eTap, powermeter, Chris King BB, and DT Swiss wheels. Price of similar Izalco build has almost doubled since then, it’s ridicuolus!
Weight? I’ve kept the rim brakes but replaced the other components with carbon stash + put on Mavic’s 1295 grams R-SYS wheels: 6.2kg. But the best thing is external wiring, just saying, so easy. Only two wires, of course, due to eTap. It might steal a watt or two and I couldn’t care less.

I hate this internal routing cables. From one side the bike looks neat and posh, but let's say I would like to do smth simple like cleaning headset bearings. Am I able to do this in your bike without disconnecting hydraulic brakes from levers? :)

Crazy, I recently finished up my dream CAAD 12 build and it weighs in at 6.45kg (with alloy wheelset) and I spend around 2300usd on building it up. Enjoyed watching the process though!

The Deda Superzero stem on this bike appears to have internal cable routing. I'm trying to find one online, but cannot locate one. Only Deda stem available, with internal cable routing, seems to be the Superbox stem, which is not as pretty or sleek as your stem. What is the exact model of the stem you fitted to this bike? David 🇮🇪
It’s the super zero
It’s hollow and works with the D shaped fork of the Winspace.
@jasperverkuijl Did you have any issues with the placement of brake levers on handlebars? These Superzero bars are supposed to be difficult to slide or place levers further up, as the bar diameter gets bigger. Makes higher placement of levers, for greater comfort, impossible? David 🇮🇪

This was just some kind of super high tec glue kit. Cant remember what exactly. Don’t think it matters, it’s just to close the gap

Jasper, a full DA 9100 di2 group set with power meter crank is only €2500?
only the Da9100 di2 groupset, not the powermeter. the powermeter is assioma pedals and that would add 600€! i found this really good deal in belgium online store.

And, I had a contract with BH last year so that’s why I rode the BH.
That crank does not rotate freely.
Best change it to a Hambini bottom bracket.
...or any BB with NSK.VV bearings and don't use hybrid ceramic bearing BBs.

My 15 year old carbon bike is only around 650g heavier which is surprising. (Rim brake + old dura ace drivetrain is lighter than disc brake + Di2 however)

Let me tell you something, guys. This bike is not as good as top-tier western brands, it's actually better. Better quality carbon layup with no voids, wrinkles and tenting (check Luescher Teknik why this is important), better QC, and weight comparable to top tier western framesets.
I'm just sorry that Winspace has slightly smaller sizing than most western brands, and XXL size of SLC frameset is marginally smaller than I would prefer (202cm and 110kg). Also, they don't offer their aero frame even close to that size (XL is their max frame size). I hope this will change in the future.

@@jasperverkuijl That's true, and I would definitely buy one if they would offer additional size over their XXL, something that Cannondale, Trek and Pinarello offer for very tall cyclists (to name a few companies that cater tall people).
I do really believe that they offer superior quality (and especially pricing) comparable or exceeding top tier western brands, but sizing issue is too big for me. For the time being, I will stick to what I currently own.

Ive asked another bikeshop in the past and they said (only) 150€. So I guess it can be relatively cheap? Dunno

ok so when i build rly light bikes, theres only 2 things i dont skimp on, brakes and saddle. ive tried the carbon ZTTO brakes and they absolutely blow ass. and shimano 6600 calipers are only 60 grams heavier. and saddle for obvious reason to save my gooch. my bikes come out to 15lbs/6.8kg without carbon wheels and 13lbs/5.8 with.
and by skimp out on i mean weight wise. ill buy heavier components to save my life/ genital's lolol

28mm tyres on a climbing bike?? 28mm perfect for handling etc. in many various races and roads, but climbing on a mountain? Maybe because aerodynamics are not a really big issue when climbing??

Crazy expensive. I have a 6 years old Émonda with Durace which weighs 6,7 kg and I paid €3500 for it, brand new. Ps: it also has handlebar tape in te right direction: always inside out so you turn it tighter when you twist your hands. 😊

@@jasperverkuijl Yeah, just saw that in the video the hangers were on + inserts and of course there is always some tolerance and its one size up. So could be ok. Did you by chance also weigh the fork and seat tube? Thinking about getting the frame (once its available in L again).

If youre not using it specifically to climb or a pro, I see no reason for it to be this light. But you have tons of bragging rights for sure.

It is 11 speed Dura Ace and 2500€ would be still very cheap. Today, cyber Monday, you could have bought the new Ultegra for 2000€ (very limited amount),

I’m sure you can buy a lighter and cheaper bike with a dung fung groupset and chinarello frame. But I’m not into that..

Lightweight with disc brakes...
My 2006 Cervelo Soloist Carbon with deep section wheel's, with 2 bottle cages and head unit mount is 700g lighter than this.
It cost me 3390€ to build it myself.
Of course with glued 22mm tubulars not like this graevel climbing abomination.
dont blame me, blame the industry! rim brake parts are near impossible to find! I tried to build it as rim brake bike but it was too uncertain with parts availability...
besides that, I was happy with my disc brakes when descending in the pyrenees in cold and (Very) wet conditions! stay tuned for my race documentary!
just the tubular wheels alone wil almost be the 700gr difference! Tubeles tire setup is actually quite heavy but its the rolling resistance and puncture resistance that makes up for it (partly)

Are you kidding, right? This is definitely not budget build, and also, not so lightweight. Few months ago, I've built my lightweight bike with similar frame but for rim brakes, with Elite Drive 40v wheels and mix of Campagnolo potenza and chorus 11s group set. It weighs 6,4kg complete with pedals, power meter, bottle cages, garmin mount etc. It costs me less than half of your build. Yes, it's with rim brakes, but still 😉
I think you misinterpreted the word “budget”!
Budget is often understood as “low budget”…. I’m just referring to “the budget”: the amount I spend.
I didn’t try to make it a cheap bike, I wanted to make it a high end bike!
Hence the brand new dura ace groupset, all new carbon parts etc etc.
So, for a rim brake bike in size large with tubeless 28mm tires (tubeless is heavier than tubes or tubular) and power meter I think 7kg is fine.
Budget vs weight, buys Dura Ace DI2, sorry but that's just not correct, don't put it in the title if it isn't true, shouldv'e used Dura Ace mechanical or Ultegra di2, so little weight difference but so much cheaper! Also please don't run cables through the headset if the frame isn't made for it, that's just dangerous, A) the fork gets damaged and you crash or B) the cables get damaged and you can't brake = crash. Why would you even do it, it's a hastle to maintain or the change anything out!
Well, here you just misinterpreted my title. It’s budget, weight, quality. Not just budget and weight. And besides that, it was never the objective to built a low budget bike. I just shared my budget that’s all. Budget meaning; the amount of money. Not low budget /cheap.
The frame is made for internal cables with the D shaped fork so it’s all good. Also the cockpit is made for it so no problems here.
