I am watching this video on my I-Pad Pro 12.9 with 1 TB SSD, and typing this on my white magic keyboard that I got at Best Buy. Another feature is that it is a stand and has a port that you can charge your I-Pad which frees up your one and only USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 port. It does have the Globe key as well. I don’t know if the previous models of the Magic keyboard has that key. Loving my I-Pad Pro, and I did get Cellular, which came in handy when Spectrum went down, I was still able to use the internet via cellular just like on my phone.

No, I don't need the iPad Pro ... what I DO need, however, is the 12.9" display. All I need is to be able to display a page of sheet music life size. A 12.9" iPad Air would be perfect.

A 2017 12.9” iPad Pro costs less than an iPad Air, if you’re okay with TouchID and the bigger chin & forehead bezels. I personally bought one instead of an Air because I wanted a cool home hub/TV setup that I could take on the go. Also, 3rd-party accessories for this model have been pretty heavily discounted by now. Would strongly recommend
Maybe try 12" Galaxy Tab S7+? It should cost around $500 used.
Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra would be better suited for that
@@shebjjeje9720 the fact is that with an iPad pro you are 100% sure that in 5 years you will be still enjoying it because it won't give you any problem. I don't think that with any other tablet, the one you mentioned for example, you'll have the same experience
Great video. I liked the apps you showed to control the studio. I also appreciated setting the expectations on what an iPad is/isn't. I switched from iPad (before Pro) to a Surface a couple of years back, but I'm thinking of going back the the iPad now that I'm using an M1 Mini as my main creative computer.
finally an ipad pro review that touches the topic of illustration and procreate, so thank you very much! personally, that's where a touch input truly shines, since photo/video editing will forever to be better on a computer, gaming experience better on a console, content watching better on a 4k projector. but being able to draw straight on a screen without lagging is quite exclusive to a tablet (outside of wacom of course) and procreate exclusive to ios. i used the very first release of procreate back when ipad 2 was still out there, with a paint brush stylus called sensu (apple pencil not existing yet) and was very impressed. however because i would want the best display and color precision, i will wait to get the pro until they release with an oled screen.

I use the iPad 12.9 M2 Cellular as a full computer NOW. It does everything I need it to do for work, editing photos and videos, media consumption, web browsing, and watching videos, typing long emails using it on my desktop setup with its stand keyboard and mouse, and when I travel, since my iPad has cellular, I don’t have to worry about finding a wifi connection. I don’t think I’ll ever own another laptop to be honest. The iPad is amazing!

My Logitech Combo Touch just arrived today and I already love it. I’d order the Magic keyboard (which arrived weeks before my new iPad), but when I realized I couldn’t leave it on the iPad for reading/drawing/etc., I knew I had to look for something else. I like that the iPad is protected all around. Great video … looking forward to iOS 15
I am surprisingly enjoying this iPad especially the 12.9 which I have bought in the past but never had used it as much as this one. Screen looks great, it’s fast, and again I surprisingly really using it allot.

Hey Sara, I couldn’t stand the smudges on my black Magic Keyboard so I ordered a D-Brand skin for it. It did the trick because I didn’t want my keyboard looking dingy since it was so prone to prints and smudging . Just something to consider to protect those two lovely keyboards you own.

Getting my iPad 12.9 tomorrow I’m so excited!
I love the iPad Pro 12.9 but I came from a gen 1 with a cracked screen - the only complaint I have so far is that not all wired headphones will work with the usb-c adapter and no not all of us want to go to Bluetooth headphones - I am guessing they must make usb-c specific headphones - after debating, I also got the pencil and love it! my main use for iPad is recording guitar tracks with GarageBand and the integration of iOS guitar plugins and iRig - so far, the iPad Pro 12.9 is epic!
Just got my IPad Pro with combo touch. That keyboard/touch pad/case combo is an IPad game changer. Love it!
The Combo Touch is probably my favorite case for the iPad. They took all my favorite things from the Surface Pro 7 and put it into the case.

I have the equivalent of that Logitech Case on my Wife’s iPad (iPad Pro 10.5), is very good, but the best iPad Keyboard/Trackpad/Case is by far the Apple one. The Logitech one works ok if you only need the iPad on a table or desktop. The Apple one works great on your lap.

👍🏼 I strongly support environmental (and financial :) )sustainability. For that matter I have until recently still used my second generation iPad from about 10 years ago until the speakers gave up.

It's all about the XDR Display. Got the M1 12.9 IPP for Entertaimment purposes. Added a Brydge keyboard and now it's basically an Apple touchscreen laptop 👍

As an owner of the 2021 12.9’’ i can wholeheartedly say that this is 100% worth it. I use it for school (since I don’t have a macbook) and as a replacement for sheet music for piano. Since I can prop this up on a music stand. But i also never had an iPad besides a 1st gen iPad mini. So i might just be behind on how good these have gotten and whether or not this is an improvement upon the 2020 model. Either way it is absolutely mind blowing and i can recommend it to anybody.

How do you feel about using IPad when performing? Any reliability issues or constraints that you've experienced?
@@user-vf7lm2js2t Absolutely none. The m1 has still yet to be fully utilized but it is definitely noticeably faster than anything else ive used. The only issues ive had were after i updated to the ipadOS 16 developer beta(s). And those are completely unrelated. No reliability issues, and the battery seemingly lasts forever. I can watch multiple movies on a single charge. One time i accidentally left the screen on (dimly lit) in the morning with the battery at 50%, when i was looking for it in the evening i found it with the screen on at 29% battery. Mind blowing battery life for such a powerful device. ipadOS 16 is going to give much needed improvements to it as well. Stage manager is really exciting because it brings desktop-like windows to the ipad. Stage manager is an m1 ipad exclusive feature and that alone makes it worth it.

Nice art John! I upgraded my iPad specifically to get apple pencil support to start drawing Anime characters. I'm still learning by tracing construction lines over existing art and trying to replicate the original art free hand. I figure if I get good at construction lines that will be a great foundation and on iPad no eraser dirt all over the place because I need to erase a lot lol.

Surprised to see john not using an artist glove, or paperlike screen protector, or (my favorite) the little rubber tips so the screens not super slippy. It's kind of a must have if you used the apple pencil regularly
For illustrators or retouching with lightroom the iPad is essential. View films, hear music, etc…Better than other device. More people write draw etc, than editing pro video. The iPad it’s not for you but easily could be the main device for 99 % of the rest of us.
Still mega impressed with my 2018 iPad Pro's 6GB of RAM. That architecture can do more than my Razer Blade Stealth, be fanless, and last like 3 days on a charge.
2018 iPad Pro has 4gb ram, unless you have the 1TB version

I know at least three CZcamsrs over 100k that just use the iPad for everything...even coding and editing. And now that Luma will allow you to use an external ssd I think it's game on for many creators. I mean if you do 'talking head' videos and have your video LUT saved, it's all good. Great video Sara
12.9 is so big! I've had one for a few months l would really like to exchange it to the 11 inch.
9:05 try Luna Display...Jump Desktop or Remote desktop...but you need to have strong internet connection like your mac at home and your iPad Pro with with fast internet connection like when in coffee shop etc

I got my first ipad recently and so far, it sits more than anything. With that said, I love it. It comes in handy when I am on the go so no regerts here.

I’ve intentionally migrated all of our workflow to iOS Based apps over the last few years.
So when the Ipad 2TB came out, we migrated away from MAC OS 100%. The only missing link is podcast software that works on iPad.
Looking forward to the ios15 release in September.

I love the combo touch! My only real gripe with it is that it’s a little tough to open up. I definitely cannot open it with one hand but beside that I really don’t have any complaints. The weight is doable enough for me that I can hold it in one hand to watch Netflix or CZcams and I can prop it up when I’m laying down and there’s no strain for how I sit with my wedge pillow. I constantly am detaching and reattaching the keyboard and I’ve used that stand for all sorts of different writing angles and it’s wonderful 😌 it was worth the money. I do like to use it with a mouse but often I’m using my Apple Pencil a lot more often.

My question stems from an photo editor's point of view: May one *benefit* from Apple's Mini-LED display for the M1 iPad Pro 12.9' during post-processing (in Photoshop Lightroom)? Or will one only get to witness the "glory" brightness of 1000 nits and beyond *only* when *viewing* HDR content? I've been told that Apple's new XDR projects at around 500/ 600 nits during normal usage. Do you notice any micro-contrast detail improvements when editing on the 12.9' mini-LED vs the normal 11'? Please advise, and thank you in advance.

Apple have “kinda” lift the 5GB RAM limit in iPadOS 15 now. They basically allow apps to “ask” for more than 5 GB but it seems the OS can also refuse depending on how much it has available at that moment.
Seems to me that that's the job of any OS really...effectively. At the end of the day, any OS and/or device developer wants their fundamental elements to remain fluid no matter what. The second you allow any app to use a majority of the ram then jumping over to other things is going to suffer - and if those other things don't suffer the jump then jumping back to that memory-hungry app, it won't be in the same state anymore.
Bottom line, Apple cares about the fluidity of everyone's experience more than your options as a professional.
Apple basically wants to reserve system memory for keeping apps open in the background. Imagine the number of upset people who would complain if every app had to be reloaded on every app switch. There is no swap file like on macOS, so they can’t just page memory onto flash.
I currently own the Microsoft Surface Go with Signature Type Cover (1st gen) and that Logitech case and keyboard is very similar in design. 🤔
