    I’m tired of video bloggers treating lesser iPads as not worth the money because they handicap video editing. The people who need video editing capability is a small and select group. So I appreciate you addressing what most people need an iPad for vs the content creating community. I’m still rocking a 7th gen iPad and it does everything I want or need in my work environment.

      Fellow simple man here. I also still use my 1st gen iPad mini (64 GB model). First of all, i paid A LOT OF MONEY for this device, 10 years ago. I will not just recycle it or toss it. It still supports CZcams Music, Netflix, and the full web browser still works so I can watch CZcams videos there. Also, it supports some of the music streaming apps for my home stereo system and serves that purpose well. Yes, it's slow, but still feels substantial in the hand, and the battery is still long lasting. And I don't need another type of charging plug. What are you able to still use it for? Thanks!

    As someone who upgraded from an iPad Gen 6 to an iPad Air 5, I would never go back to an iPad without the laminated display. The screen being flush is a huge improvement when using the Apple Pencil. The Apple Pencil 2 is also a big upgrade from the Apple Pencil 1. Those two features alone make me happy with my decision and even if the 10 was out when I got my Air 5, I would still have gone with the Air 5.

For myself, I never recommend the basic iPad 10th generation ... it is either the older basic iPad 9th generation or the older iPad 4th generation. If you prefer the newer design and use of the Apple 2nd generation pencil the iPad Air is the winner. However, if like myself you prefer the older classic design and look its the basic iPad 9th generation for you. The iPad 10 is nice but the Air is definitely more future proof. It’s also been on the market for a year now, which means you can find it second hand or refurbished for the same price as the more recently released iPad 10. So it’s pretty much a no brainer to me. It’s the kind of tablet you can expect to keep for years, just like the 2018 iPad Pro which is still very much usable today.

      I think the iPad Air has a shorter life span when it comes to future software support though. I would say the iPad 10 is a better pick, if you don't focus on drawing and writing and just want the best bang for your buck, especially when you want to use it for video calling, as the camera placement is so much better on the iPad 10.

    • @clementrousseau3571
      @clementrousseau3571 Pƙed 7 měsĂci +6

      @@_modiX the iPad Air is M1, it will receive the same software updates as the iPad Pro M1. It’s definitely the flagship chip, only to be replaced by other M chips. For example, AAA video games are about to be released on the iPhone 15 Pro, but also on the M1 iPads, including the Air. You’ll get much more out of it than an iPad 10, and probably for much longer although it is one year older. And then again, it is not significantly more expensive when bought second hand. Add on top of that the laminated display and Apple Pencil 2 compatibility
 it’s a no brainer.

    For me, the main advantage of the Air is 8 GB of RAM. Paired with the M1 SoC, it will remain fast for years to come. 4GB of RAM in an iPad 10 is probably fine now, but what about the next couple of years? And the price difference due to the discount was very negligible.
    But still I would prefer to have a Mac OS instead of a phone OS. The iPad Air 5th has pretty much the same hardware as the Mac Air 2020. You can attach bt keyboard and mouse and even an external display! Hope to see more professional OS.

      These are entry level iPads 4GB of ram is fine for everyday. They will still function fine in the next 5 years from now just based on how well older models are performing to date. My mother uses my older iPad 6th gen and I have the 9th gen and they still function fine for emails, browsing, videoplay back and those models even less ram. Disagree. My Air 4 has only 4 GB of memory yet streams 4K movies with amazing image quality and no lag, despite being connected wirelessly. But that is where the tablet’s form factor ends. It cannot replace a workstation for authoring, and therefore does not need a “professional” OS. In fact, many would argue the Air 4 with 256 GB storage might be the Goldilocks solution for general tablet use among the iPad range, if not in the industry.

    I need to buy a new iPad for my 14 years old daughter. I thought it is time to have one that she can use for the coming school years, also replacing her Lenovo Yoga book and old iPad Air (2). Any hints? At this point Air 5 seems a better choice. The front camera placement is a drawback, yes - but besides that Air 5 offers so much more. She is also talented in drawing and music so I thought it would open up a possibility for her as well to develop into any directions...

    One of the biggest advantages I see about getting the iPad Air 5 over the 10th gen is the Air 5 has better accessory support with the Pencil 2 and the Magic Keybaord. I use both accessories with my M2 iPad Pro, and they’re awesome, and are far better than the Magic Keboard Folio and Pencil 1 you have to use on the 10th gen. Plus, if you upgrade from an Air to a Pro, you can reuse both accessories, unlike with the 10th gen. Even if you don’t need a MKB or a Pencil 2, I’d still recommend the Air 5 because of the more future-proof internals, and the laminated display. If you’re really on a budget, then go for a 9th gen iPad. I got the chance to use one, and it’s a wonderful tablet, especially for the prices you can get it for.

I love this machine, it's so slick and light, and the sound is brilliant, but I don't really use its full power, for my needs I know a basic ipad will do the job, and losing the laminated display wouldn't dissuade me from downgrading to a 10 either, it's a loss of quality, but not a huge one. I think the air 5 is aimed at artists and editors and at those for whom having state-of-the-art stuff is important. For office use and daily life, it's a bit overkill.

I didn't put glass protector cause I read on the internet it may affect the drawing experience, cause problems with apple pencil etc. and the apple pencil isn't able to scratch the screen since its designed to use on it. Oh god, I wish I could go back in time and unread this bullsh*t and put the protector on my iPad when it hasn't any scratches...It made me thinking of selling this iPad and buy some cheaper model but this time brand new and definitely with screen protector. The iPad 10 will be great if you won't be using an Apple Pencil to write a lot and don't care about a laminated display, while getting the same storage sizes, cheaper, and same device sizes as the iPad air 5. I personally like writing a lot for school, so the iPad 10 would give me a frustrating time to use with the Apple Pencil situation, so the iPad air 5 is much more worth it to me with the Apple pencil 2nd generation, for a much smoother writing experience. The ipad first generation pencil is really glitchy to use now adays. The pencil won't let you write at times and makes you plug it into a charger before it activates. The Ipad 2nd generation doesn't have this issue. I personally upgraded from an ipad 9 after a year of use just because how sick I was with how the first gen pencil operated and the old design of the device.
