    Love the “oh I forget to bring my 8’ by 8’ soft box”. Classic. Great channel, and great example of how to create big book light, tennis 🎾 on the legs (pro), explanation of all the things you’ve done and easy understanding of it. I’m really trying to learn how to do lighting like in motion pictures to get that look that you see on the big screen. I think you’ll be one of the people to help me get there.

    Bro thanks so much for this. I'm based out of California. I ironically built this for the first time in Dallas a couple weeks ago on a shoot! I considered even giving you a call. I took the 1200d though, and it worked out great!

    The deadpan delivery on "I always forget my 8x8 softbox at home" made me chuckle. My first reaction for the diffusion was half grid but it makes sense that since your source of light is the bounce you can go with something lighter and it will fill out evenly.

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 5 měsíci

      Great catch! Had to give the nay sayers some love! If we did not have windows, magic cloth would be king!

  • @bbrunorocha
    @bbrunorocha Před 6 měsíci +1

    another amazing video ! as far as diffusion does, it all depends on how much light i have avaliable and which look i want to, but i really like using unbleached muslin or something similar !

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před 5 měsíci +1

      The biggest factor is windows. Those require a lot of output, when you diffuse. Different rags offer a different look. Thank you for watching!

  • @danabeldp
    @danabeldp Před 6 měsíci +2

    Magic Cloth all day for me. If you have the output, bouncing into a Muslin and then pushing through something lighter also has a nice look.

    Great explanation as always! I wish I had more of an input on which diffusion to use, but I haven't gotten around to testing a few different options at my rental house just yet. Mostly it's magic cloth or something similar, but I also enjoy the lighter Lee gel filters like 1/4 Hollywood frost, I feel it gives it a bit of a more professional look. That said, I really should back up my own statements by checking out and comparing all the available options... 😄

    After seeing your other book light videos I created a book light soft box with PVC. It gives a better look then a soft box if you’re looking for a full range soft wrap. I like this better than what I did and will see how to implement it

    I was not aware this bags are called shot bags. Just got myself two (6kg each). They are great. Sandbags always leak at the end, which is kinda annoying especially if transported on the same cart as camera gear.

    Amazing! Love book lighting and I love your rig. Dumb question but couldn’t you just set up a deep umbrella and that becomes your book light? I see photographers use umbrella’s all the time and the deep umbrella especially is just a book light where it bounces off the back of the umbrella and is then diffused.
