- Dr. Ebraheim’s educational animated video describing the anatomy and associated injuries of the knee joint.
Disrupted quadriceps
•Patient is unable to actively extend the knee.
The most common cause of ACL ruptures:
•Traumatic force being applied during twisting motion.
•Side stepping or landing from a jump.
Patient complains of:
•Immediate pain
•Knee giving way
•Swelling
Aspiration of the knee
•If aspiration of the knee joint shows evidence of blood within the joint there is 75-80% chance of ACL and meniscal injury.
Lachamn’s test- ACL knee exam
•Knee is flexed at 30 degrees.
•ACL tear of the knee is identified by pulling on the tibia and examining the frontward motion of the lower leg in comparison to the upper leg.
Radiological exam - ACL
•MRI of the knee joint shows bone lesions or bruising associated with tears of the ACL. Injury is found in the typical location; middle of the femoral condyle and posterior part of the tibia laterally.
Posterior cruciate ligament tear (PCL)
•Common cause of injury is a bent knee hitting a dashboard in a car accident.
Tibial Sag Test -PCL knee exam
Quadriceps active test-PCL knee exam
•The examiner stabilizes the leg of the patient and then the patient is asked to actively contract the quadriceps muscle.
•The tibia is seen actively reduced from the posterior subluxed position.
Lachman’s test-PCL knee exam
•Knee is bent 20-30 degrees.
•The posterior drawer test is carried out while the patient is in a supine position and the knee is flexed to 90 degrees.
•The amount of translation of the tibia relative to the femur is observed.
The dial test is performed while the patient is in the supine or prone position and both knees are in 90 and 30 degrees of flexion. More than 10 degrees of external rotation indicates significant injury.
Common meniscal tears
Symptoms include
•Knee pain
•Pain with straightening the knee
•Swelling
•Locking
•Weakness

It's good that you are seeing a doctor for your injury

I was in your office today, just wanted to say thank you again for everything that you have done to help my with my knee injuries. These videos are excellent and very informative, keep up the good work, - Amanda (Right knee microfracture).
The treatment is usually ice, NSAIDS, decreased physical activity, crutches, bracing, therapy. If it is an isolated injury, surgery is usually not needed. However, when there is associated injuries with other ligaments, surgery may be needed to prevent future instability. Always consult your doctor before you make decisions for your medical care.
wow ...
the go to video to know all about knee injuries and indeed explained in an effortless and smooth manner.
It depends on your definition of locking. Locking typically occurs from meniscus tear.
see a doc for an exam
thank you for sharing...
@tylersao great point

Still not sure what I did to my knee but it helps me understand it a bit more.🙏
Thanks
I'd been suffering with bad knee pain for about 2 weeks, coming from the back of my knee & partly above & below my knee at the rear of it. I put it down to a strain on the hamstring, but it was really painful for a while in the mornings.i work manually & found one morning i was like a spectator on the job as I was working on hill like ground. However I was working on a few home projects over the following week & the pain in the area wasn't getting any better. I was getting into my car a few days later & i felt a crack like noise coming from my knee & instantly my knee gave in, I found it extremely hard to try & stand & bare weight, it took me about 15 minutes to get back into my home because of the extreme pain.
I'm using crutches for the past 2 days, I realize I'll have to get to my doctor to get a proper diagnoses. This video has been a great help to understanding the injury I may have. Thank you for the information guys!
Thank Leonard J for your reply! Very interesting & helpful!

great video, fuck the complainers, i prefer short and sweet and packed with info. over long and wordy flashy graphics and editing.

thanks
It depends on what is shown on the MRI. You should have a better idea of your treatment plan after the scan and your doctor see's the results.
thank you for posting this it was very informative
Today, I went into hospital for knee surgery. When I awoke, I was surprised to find a bandage wrapped around my throbbing head. The nurse explained that a student observer had fainted in the operating room and his head had smashed against mine on the way down.
I just fell sideways and hurt both knees. Your video, while not not as good as a trip to the doctor, was still very informitive.
Thanks for your wonderful video!!
Very touchable information Thank you so much doctor Nabil
Thanks for the video!
Very informative video!
I am a regular adventurer. Or at least, I used to be. Recently, I received a puncturing injury to my right knee due to an accident involving a misfired arrow. I'm able to walk on it and the pain is subsiding on some occasions with proper medication and less lollygagging, but my job has been affected as I am forced into guard duty while my cousin, whose knee is still perfectly intact, is out fighting dragons.
Excellent video-thank you for this well compiled information!
thank you ,very much informative
You probably need to see an Orthopedic surgeon for an examination. It could be arthritis, ligaments, really anything. Without an examination and possible studies it is hard to tell.
thank you doctor for videos you are publishing .. they are very useful and deliver information in a simple manner .. i appreciate

THIS IS A TEACHING VIDEO. classic teaching for people around the world , for those who have or do not have MRI,
It easy to get MRI in the USA .some docs like to get the MRI early ,THEY ARE NOT WRONG
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GREAT QUESTION
Many thanks for the great sharing, very useful !
Thank you so much for this...Im using some of this information for a report in my massage therapy class.
@mwidmer84 you can use MRI
This would be better if you included as much detail into the LCL/MCL injury - I would really like to have seen a live video showing the test and/or injury like you did for the ACL/PCL.
Thanks for this very informative video.
I am a regular badminton player. Recently, I am getting knee ache on my left knee. Typically, it pains a lot in the beginning of games and after a while it goes away. Also i notice pain when I climb stairs. Normal walking is fine. Your advice is much appreciated.
Well good to see you here I'm a badminton player too and I slipped on the court and hurt my knee now I can't even play the game I love most
@carrotpick It sounds like you are describing an injury to the medial collateral ligament of the knee. This injury may require bracing and sometimes even surgery, you should be examined by an orthopaedic surgeon.
make sure you check your ligaments and the knee cap
@Cellat1071 need to see a doc

Bucket Handle is what I've got, I'm glad you covered that.

Great video! I messed up my ankle & knee in a sparring match for TKD. Docs said 3-6 months before I reach pre injury strength with my damaged ligaments but it is REALLY painful at times. I'm seeing progress with my ankle strength but not so much my knee which is so annoying. Glad this can help me figure what new exercises I might wanna try though.
How are you doing these days??
Thanks for the video. I may have a similar condition from playing indoor soccer (futsal). Will go to the doctor as soon as possible.

This video helps me to know constructure of knee.that is useful
Twisted my left knee in high speed skiing fall. Was able to stand, hold my weight on the left leg alone. Skied back, able to walk, no swelling, no bruising, could bend the slowly knee and walk. Hour later very stiff, very tender and sensitive just on the top, left inside of knee, feels like a bad bruise. Went to hospital for xrays, no breaks or tears doc just said take it easy. Its week later and still soar, stiff tender when changing from bent to upright position. But get around, light workouts.
Just partially broken ACL and LCL , weird thing is that I only heard a crack but no pain. I hope to recover as soon as possible and go back climbing =/
thank you for the vid
the best i ever seen
