    Thanks for this awesome DIY video! Like you, I have an 2004 and I needed to replace the B and C group mounts as the spongy material was rotted and shot. Didn't need to touch the A and D group mounts as they are still like brand new! This fixed all the squeaking issues, raised the vehicle a little higher and made the ride so much more stable.

    @rickyg4800 Před 5 lety +6

    Did this job about 3 to 4 years ago took me 9 to 10 hours total unfortunately I did not have an impact but the squeaking went away!!! Worth it!!!!! Heat was definitely your friend!!!

  • @MUSTANG408W
    @MUSTANG408W Před 5 lety +20

    Position A and D bushings are rubber. B and C were foam. Had it been me I would've replaced all bushings because rubber squishes with movement. Polyurethane doesn't.
    In a lot of cases the bolts for the front mounts (Position A) will have to be replaced. The threads will have been worn away and/or severely corroded. Replacement bolts for the front mounts can be ordered from FASTENAL. It is item number 11114576. They are M12 x 100mm, Grade 10.9, Zinc coated bolts. You'll need two.
    Not everyone needs to use a torch. If someone has an impact gun it will zip the bolts right out without any heat. A big C-mouth vise grip works a lot better at keeping the lower mount shell from spinning.

    Working on doing mine this weekend. Just a helpful hint, go to your local napa, and get a 12mm x 1.75 x 125mm bolt. After you remove the stock bolts for b,c,and d, screw the 5" bolt in from the top and tap it with a 2# hammer...popped all mine out like that. Eliminated having to get under mine so much which is a pain right now as i dont have my new lift or wheels and tires 8nstalled yet.

    I completely took all of my rear bushings out and left them out, I then found some taller bushings and installed them around the front. It left my truck popping a nice body squat! I then made it made it so my suspension was squatting in the opposite direction. Does well in the mud pits now.

    I did this install on my son's 2003 Sport Trac. Since I work as an automotive technician, I had everything I needed to get this done in about 3 hours. The ones on the rear are the worst, as they're held together with internal clips. I had to use an air hammer to separate them.
    But, the body was stiffer, no rattling in the doors, and a more "Connected" ride all the way around. It can be done on the driveway, but holy shit
    , having a lift made everything sooooooo much easier.

Good video thou. I got it up about 4 inches. Doing one side at a time but bolt all loose only got one semi tight so I can make it easier to center on frame don't want to fight center best to not side. I took seats outs make it a lot easier. But good thinking on the unbolting the sleeves and pushing it back through as a punch that's good shit! Front 2 bolt to get to easier there two factory holes in radiator support. Use 20 inch extention with 18 mm socket. Holes are perfect to nut.

    A garage or dealership will tell you upon checking them cause of a noise complaint or just while they are under it during an inspection cause hey u got some bad body mounts here. They tell u that but than when u say about an estimate they don’t want to give u one or just say cause the bolt and such are rusted it’s not worth the time. Well if the the vehicle is 15 plus years old these going bad wearing out are very common. So why the hell won’t more mechanics do the freaking job. Not everyone is going out every few years and getting a new or semi new vehicle. I know my front mounts on my 05 Trac are worn an rusted and my main mechanic a good guy with fair pricing told me it could be a big job with getting them all loosened and not hurting anything else in the process. So I drive it without he said it won’t hurt the vehicle leaving them way they are. It still rides pretty good u just and hear an odd clunk or bump here and there going over certain bumps an such. Not a big deal frame and body is still in good condition after all these years.

    Good video. I have a 2002 originally from Florida, but came to Maine 8 yrs ago. Only turning 126,000 miles now. I have no creaking, but clunking. Sometimes I hear the clunk just stepping up onto the nerf bar.My suspension is tight, fairly new, control arm bushings are new, so I decided to order the Prothane kit from amazon. Looks just like your kit. I will def be using air tools, I have an impact gun and an air ratchet, and of course a torch if needed. I am hoping it goes as easy as yours did. I'm thinking the clunk is wear on the bushings, and the body mounts are just a bit loose and deteriorated. Either way, no question if the truck is 18 years old, the mounts HAVE to be shot by now. If I can, if I have to pull the bolts out of all the cab anyway, I am changing them all. I am not going to wish I had, after it's all reinstalled. Good video, thanks for your efforts!

  • @johnguilfoyle3073
    @johnguilfoyle3073 Před rokem

    It seems odd to go to all that trouble and not do a complete job. Just because the top side of a bushing "looks okay" from the outside, you can't know the condition of the inside. You can't know how much that bushing has been compressed over the years.
    If you're going to work on your own truck, do it right, clean the parts, and give them a shot of paint. It's not the best idea to reinstall the New bushings on top of dirt which will be grinding against the stee on day one.
    Take the front seats out and give a good run-over with the shop vac.

    • @MrFullcount13
      @MrFullcount13 Před rokem

      Well... my biggest fear came true! Watched your video a couple more times, psyched myself up and went at it!! Unbolted the driver seat, pulled the floor board cover back to get to both B and C pillars and got the bolt under the driver's feet out no problem! Thought to myself, "Man yeah!! Just like the video!" Screwed the bolt in from the bottom and proceeded to "knock" the hardware apart from the top. For the next hour and a half, I beat on that bolt with different extensions (got one extension wedged onto the bolt and thought I was REALLY screwed), different hammers, drowned it in PB Blaster, heated it with a torch.... and NOTHING!!!! The bottom and top portions were rusted completely into ONE homogenous unit!! I feel like the next logical step would have been to saws all the hardware in half to remove it, but with this being my only vehicle to get back and forth to work in, that job was going to be more than a "weekend job" for me I thought. And that's IF the other 7 sets didn't do the same thing! Oil well... I guess I'm just meant to have a "mini log truck" ride for the rest of the Sport Trac's days.

  • @Edmund_Mallory_Hardgrove

    I ordered the same pushing kit off Amazon. My problem is the front top bushing in the kit is almost twice the height of the original. And from the looks of it, it's not because the original bushing is compressed or anything. It's rubber and still very pliable on mine.
