Warhorse: It would be great if you made a video explaining the button presses required for combat, the timing thereof, and most importantly allow one to SLOWLY learn the skill in game. You keyboard warriors have No IDEA of how humans actually learn physical actions hence the reason why Combat is so hated in this game. You expect humans to memorise the combos and perfectly execute them but the problem is humans have to slowly learn the physical actions, that's how humans work. please give us the capability to slowly learn combat in game, one move at a time, just like in real life.

Just please make sure there are COUNTLESS ways to interact with the environment. That makes a game so much more valuable. I'm talking about everything from making camp in the woods to interactive eating, drinking (getting drunk too), realistic npc behavior, throwing and picking up items (rocks, chairs, tableware, etc.), realistic interaction with fire and weather, trees chipping away when attacking them, ragdoll effects (think like in GTA 4/ GTA 5), and many activities to partake in. Trust me, your audience will view the game as legendary if this level of interaction is present.
That would be amazing....but they are not the biggest company, and as far as I know have no publisher. Adding all these things would cost too much time...But I can't help but see this as an open world medieval crysis 1 game, if all those interactive elements were added it would very much be like Crysis (throwing any object and shooting/chopping down trees etc). Also It's euphoria in GTA4/5 not ragdoll physics. I'm still looking forward to the day though a first person shooter or a game like this adds that technology in it, would be so immersive
I love how many experts on medieval fighting and fencing are here. I have just seen few videos by Warhorse and I can't judge the combat system yet. Not only because this is really early pre-alpha stage of development, but also because I haven't played it and I can't judge how the system works. It's also a videogame, so it can't possibly be the complete medieval combat simulator, it has a story, an environment, NPC and other systems that have to be processed. I can't imagine a game that could be a complete medieval simulator as some experts here suggest, and yet be playable and enjoyable. In my opinion KC:Deliverance looks great, and I also hope in some true claymores, although I know historically they shouldn't be in the game. Za mě skvělá práce, kluci. This is revolutionary. A realistic, hardcore and unforgiving combat system that still gives you a lot of control over the situation.
Sure, it seems a bit static right now and the characters seem to be fighting formally rather than frantically fighting for survival, but I assume it'll be much better in the final version. But even if it stays like this, it's still revolutionary and will be a lot of fun.
I am disappointed with the large scale battles, though. No strategy and no ability to lead an army and just survive inside a chaotic battle? Can we at least rank up and get into a position to plan battles and lead armies? Better yet, can't we get to point to become king and lead a kingdom? Oh well. Perhaps a later update, then.
About that strategy I can only say - Mike Tyson quote: "Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth.". If it must be realistic You must just go into castle/battleground and try to survive, because You're on Your one - as You say. BTW sorry for my bad English, I hope You understand me :)

Yo, ever heard of war of the roses? It's kinda the same thing as this with weapon momentum, armour locational damage and attacking directions. Is good!

Amazing...this is the rpg I've been waiting for. It reminds me heavily of dark souls realism and weighty combat. I'm now more exicted for this than i am for dark souls 2 or the witcher 3. These guys certainly know what they are doing.

Why have I not heard more about this game! This video has made this game one of my most anticipated games ever.... I have been imagining a game like this for years, and now it finally is happening. That combat system looks awesome... RPG with large battles and sieges and such a great looking combat system may become a very big contender for a GOTY price.

When he shot the guy with a bow, I think I just saw something I've wanted from games forever: injured opponents. Generally, enemies either take damage but otherwise act like they're uninjured or die instantly. Unless you were shot in the head, you're not dying instantly. It could take hours to bleed out.

If they manage to make the combat fluid and good these battles will be fucking awesome, like total war but finally being able to control the soldiers.

Torn Banner Studios should just team up with Warhorse to implement part of the "Chivalry Medieval Warfare" combat, which is the best first-person melee combat at the moment in my opinion. If only it were that simple..

It's a system still in development and they're doing great so far from what I see, but I'm really hoping they'll really lean into this historically accurate swordplay. I'd hate to see blood spurts when you strike an armoured part of the body, and it'd be amazing to see them model even more of the actual fencing techniques; you could learn the meisterhaus as perks to allow for instant kills, or learn to halfsword for when you're fighting armoured opponents. Can't wait to see what these guys are going to do with this performance capture stuff.
The combat already looks fantastic and far beyond other games already in terms of technology. I wonder, will there be more sword combat styles available as well? I believe different countries used different combat styles. :)
I really hope this game makes it through because it looks absolutely epic and amazing.
This is looking very interesting and looking quite fun compared to many other melee combat systems.
The one thing I am wondering though, you mention realism but it doesn't seem like stances/guards are playing a part?
These are one of the cornerstones of combat of this time period which influenced the moves you could do in that stance and your defensive techniques.
The stances they did had each their own strengths/weaknesses.
I am just wondering if these are going to be in the combat system? IT still looks great to me but that'd be icing if you had those.

The best part of this game is it will be supporting modders like other RPG's like elder scrolls :D And I can't wait and see what the modders make, magic abilities for sure.
I hope that the blocking/parrying mechanic is not as simple as holding key "x" indefinitely, like say in Assassins Creed games. I'd rather it required a more deliberate and accurate reaction that makes the act of defense a challenge not a snore.
Dyls17 Yes that's definitely one way it's handled, much like in Dark Souls for instance. But I rather they only took that route as a last option. Better they try something new and creative if they can first.
Silver Volpe My guess is there will be a stamina involved in blocking/attacking so you can't just spam one button over and over because you will get exhausted quicker.

Yes I was thinking along these lines, having to anticipate and react on the direction of the attack by the player may become too tedious or simply too "niche" to be generally fun. But I was hoping they'd come up with a new idea that perhaps was somewhere between holding the defense key and using it with directional commands. The game looks awesome so far with a very authentic feeling. Why not try to improvise a genuine melee combat system. Much like what Rock Steady did with Batman Arkham series, and now everyone is copying them (which isn't a bad thing).
As for the rest of your suggestions, I agree. These are little things but they would definitely give a layer of depth and freshness into an often awfully predictable system after the first few hours of gameplay.

I hope you wont be a prince or something important at the start, being a simple soldier seems like a great idea, slowly building up to become something bigger.

This is amazing but I think that they should make it to where the player has to time their blocks correctly, not just hold, and have parrying as a separate command that can be done depending on the timing or maybe work as a 'critical block' (although that might take it away from being skill based). If the player is not concentrating on the fight enough to time their blocks they should be severely punished and that's what would make the combat one of the best if not the best first person combat systems.
Congratulations for the wonderful work carried out until now, especially for the courageous choices of gameplay, like this excellent combat system...just don't make the game too easy, lowering the level of challenge and making the whole thing too action. This can become, without any doubt, one of the best sandbox RPGs as we have not seen for years and, perhaps, as there never were. Thank you for still believe that developing a good game, nowadays, does not mean groped to sell as much as possible, copying the most fruitful clichés, but create something of quality, original and profound, even if that means risking losing everything.

This looks very good and I'm so excited already. I hope you create a real RPG story for those who love single player campaign. I don't like much multiplayer games. Campaign should be something what bring something new every time you play it.
if warhorse studios read their comments i hope they add a modding system for the game, a Game of Thrones mod in this game would be fantastic. especially with the large scale battles, House Stark against House Lannistar in a full scale war would be really awesome.

JohnOldChannel bohužel predtim rikali ze to neni uplne jisty ze cz dabing bude. vzhledem k tomu ze predchvili presahli tech 700 tisic liber, tak by ho mohly udelat. pevne verim ze to zvladnou.
To já věřim taky... včetně toho, že udělaj lepší zvuk když se střetnou meče a né to cinkání lžíčkama o sebe... :) Mají na to 2 roky tak to doufám bude dokonalé :))
JohnOldChannel Pamatujte hoši na to že je to pořád daleko před vydáním takže nějaké nedodělky se určitě najdou. Ale s tím českým dabingem nevím no možná si to schovávají jako překvapení a nebo prostě nebude.
Někde v komentech jsem se na tohle ptal na re-play stránce, bylo mně odpovězeno, že titulky určitě ale možná i dabing. Tak se nechme překvapit taky by mě celkem vadilo pohybovat se v českých dějinách a poslouchat angličtinu. :D

Amazing work. Keep it up! You're realizing the RPG dreams of many gamers out there. This definatly shot up to the top of my 'must buy' list.
Im in martial arts and I can say from this video that the combat mechanics are realistic. It also looks like a lot of fun. im just hoping the animations will be a little bit smoother. then gain i feel like animations always look kinda glitchy in Cryengine. you guys are making LOTS of promises but two years is also lots of time, so good luck. Oh and if youre looking for a quest designer or any sort of writer, let me know (Y) im loving the motivation! good luck.

Wow, I'm actually even more excited , this looks like the skill cap would be VERY high, I hope the damage is global with the player taking the same amount of damage that their enemies take. Me being a fan of the souls series (demon souls, dark souls) this is very exciting

The only thing you should work on (if you have time and resources of course) is the sword "binding" i saw in the video that most parries and collisions of swords are made "edge to edge" which is not historically accurate and sane.
When 2 swords make contact "edge to edge" a pieces of the edge are broken and you're destroying the blade this way. All fencers love there swords and they need them to be in best condition as long as possible so the parry normally is made with the "flat" (in most cases under 30-45 % something like that).
This mean that on contact you (the fencer) rotate your blade so the force not go on the edge. This is the best scenario of course :) There are a lot of situation that swords hit each other edge to edge, but this should not be the norm.
If you implement this you will make one HEMA and Games fan very happy :P

The graphics & setting looks so similar to Witcher, that there just has to, HAS to be an Easter Egg - being able to meet Geralt of Riviaat some point :P

But what.. Just because Witcher is set in a "more realistic fantasy world" doesnt make these games similiar.

i agree. players need to feel like they are learning something, if they are going to be realistic then they should do this because life doesn't say "kick" when you have the opportunity, you have to have the knowledge and experience to know when to do that

***** That being said, the increased realism can and probably will add a lot the immersion factor of the game, and ultimately be a lot more fun to play (in my opinion). However, like you said before, probably a good idea to add an on/off toggle in settings or something.

I love the idea of just being a small part of a huge battle, it's the reason that Mount and Blade Warband's Multiplayer is the most fun multiplayer there is for me.
If this gets the scale right, and the engine can deal with it, this will be bloody amazing.
A Coop mode would be nice though.

This looks like the combat system is going to be a step up from Chivalry: Medevil Warfare
Chivalry is pretty simplified compared to this. It's a highly simplified system for Multiplayer latency. You parry by trigger, not by physically parrying your enemies weapon. That's why you'll see the enemies weapon passing through your weapon physically and hitting you, because the animation is not completely synchronized with the trigger mechanic etc... it's made for being fair and balanced, not for being realistic.

Yes, Chivalry's combat system is simplified, but it works and has lots of depth to it compared to other First-Person hack'n slash games *cough*Skyrim*cough*. The main jist of that game is to rush in, break your opponents defense, and land combo chains.
Like I said, I'm looking forward to KD. Based off of the gameplay, it seems like their approach to combat is more of a tug-of-war rock,paper, scissors sort of thing. The combat looks more dynamic and almost realistic than Chivalry.

This game looks promising, TES could learn something from the combat here.
No the combat needs work the lock on needs to be removed. which would make it more dynamic.
I dislike the lock on combat, I want to move on my free feet during a fight.
