This is probably the best feeling. Pros about this is like: you are thrifting things that might never be used again, thus taking away from the potential landfill, all the thrifted items have a beautiful but unknown history which is kinda magical, the “something old”, and you get the feeling of spending money and looking for the perfect things for your wedding that you’d normally do at other stores but without feeling like crap. Everything feels personal and beautiful. I love this.

I found a craft art supply store that is a local reuse repurpose spot- most items were found or donated so it's a real grab bag- I made all my centerpieces from stuff found there. I only had to buy floating candles- from Ikea. Then I found a overstock and factory seconds stationary store where I purchased thank you cards for over 50 gifts, and our wedding favors/ little giveaway team were California Lotto scratchers. I love them and it was a shout out to my late grandmother who loved em as well. The little silver envelopes and paper I used for the notes attached to the favor for more than 200 scratchers. Stationary is wildly expensive to only be used once and then thrown out, all the stationary for the favors and thank you cards and envelopes was like $40 total. That's right forty dollars. The paper was a good weight and the favor envelops were the perfect size and really lovely shony silver color. Best thrift/repurpose win of the wedding- hands down.
I got married 3 months ago. My Mama and I thrifted/made about 95% of all decorations. My sister in law (who got married 8 months before me) said “I spent $35k on my whole wedding and it wasn’t decorated half as nice as this”. I thanked her but didn’t have the nerve to tell her I spent only $2k! Thrifting is amazing. You just need a few bucks and some diy abilities! Plus we sold everything after the wedding and doubled our money! So my wedding MADE me money thanks to thrifting!!

I like the fact that in foreign people dont have to invite everyone they know like 500-1000people. Here in India my mom want to invite her every friend and office people. That will be more than 400. And her contribution to me is her necklace, which she ll brag live long for giving me . its 100people food price. I would rather buy my own necklace and have a court marriage than waste my money on people who hate me and find problem with everything I do and make that includes my mom. Indians parents should learn from u.
God bless your toxic relationship with your mom. I gifted my mom 3 necklaces, 2 pairs of earrings, bangles and I spoil her with sarees frequently. I still give her as much as I can as I understand now as a mother myself why she did what she did. I used to hate my mom as a teen to 20s but now I respect her and wish to be half a lady she is.
