My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. It is ludicrously expensive, most people can't affort this price gouging, even as shared appartement with 3 people in it, which would make the space cramped and unpleasant to live in.
@@Saucisse_Praxis Almost all major cities are ludicrously expensive these days. A relative of mine is paying 4,000 euros a month for an apartment in Boston. But this rent is less than I’ve seen for many apartments in Paris.

I've been subletting a room in a fantastic apartment in the 18th until I find my own apartment. I do love the neighborhood. I was very tempted to rent in the 18th but the personally I am being drawn to the 14th and the 9th.
There are a lot of great places to live in Paris. I think renting while you search for the place you love most is a great call

More videos like this at some point in the video can you do a straight walk thru. Like go thru the front door and go thru it like a realtor would. That gives a better sense of the space. My first apt after college was 525 sq ft so I have a sense of what 700 sq ft is but the way you shot the video made it seem much larger. I love tours of homes but having a sense of the total space gives better context. But ❤❤ this! And I agree - the light in the apt is beautiful.
Really wonderful apartment series. I was left wondering who the Agent or Agency was that they used for English-speakers? I'd be greatful for a recommendation or referral. I live in a small rural town of around 2000 people in the Sarthe department, not too far from Le Mans.t I visit Paris as often as I can afford as it's only an hour on the TGV to Montparnasse...

Only looking for a year for an apartment? That’s of another order than in my country. I was on a waiting list for 10 years for a social rent apartment, and I live in a town of 20,000 just outside Amsterdam (Amsterdam is even worse). After 8 years I earned too much money for a social rent apartment and my only option was to buy an apartment if I ever wanted to get out of my parent’s house. So I saved more and waited till I had enough waitlist points before I was eligible for a new build apartment. This took me another 3 years. At 29 I could finally get a house of my own. I could only just afford the mortgage, so a holiday abroad was out of the question for the first 5 years. I’m jealous of that 1 year apartment search.

C'est un très joli appartement agréablement situé ! je vous souhaite de trouver le vôtre également un jour prochain. Continuez cette série, c'est toujours intéressant de savoir comment les gens finissent par trouver l'appartement qui leur correspond. C'est sûr qu'à Paris c'est plutôt la galère de trouver un appart. Dans le reste de la France cela le devient aussi. D'ailleurs il y a une émission sur une chaîne de télévision "recherche appartement ou maison" qui aide des particuliers à trouver leur futur logement. Live the series that you are doing. I would not have expected to find an apartment that beautiful for less than 2,000... I know it's only five euros less but still less than 2000. I would have expected, especially in the 18th, to be 3,000 to 3500 so this gives me hope

How to find a nice appartment in Paris to own or rent ?
Step 1 make more than 110000€ per year (so more than 90% of the entire country) The price also goes up because of the lack of housing due to greedy NIMBYs
Alternative step 1 : Be pushed out of Paris because you rent just went up 10% more because of the olympics.
Yeah, the Olympics are proving problematic on this front especially

I love seeing the apartments. I am confused about one thing. Every channel about renting an apartment in Paris says it is very hard to do. Yet, there are airbnb places that rent for a year or more. As someone planning to stay for one to five (?) years l have been checking them out carefully. Why don't people living in Paris rent through airbnb?
Because it's *significantly* more expensive and you don't have the same legal protections, I would guess, are top of the list. Also Airbnb for long term renting may not be fully legal, as there are limitations to the duration anyone is allowed to rent their place through platforms like that in Paris, but I'm not totally sure where those limits fall

Less is more when it comes to French Administration???? 😂😂😂😅, I'd beg to differ, lol. Each time I'm renewing my visa I give them the bare minimum that they ask for, and it's never enough, lol, never. Even when we bought our apartment here, they were constantly asking for documents left and right, when we got married, the embassy for France un the country we got married in was asking for a ton of documents, some really expensive for me to get, lol, so no, I don't agree with the less is more, lol. What I would say is have every document they request and then some more on top of it and only give them what they actually ask for in person, you'd be surprised how often the list of documents listed and the one they ask for in person are just different enough to F you over if you don't have them readily available.
You're not wrong! You always want everything they're asking for along with anything you can think of that they *might* ask for. I think that's sage advice. But what we're referring to are what I'd describe as "Extra Credit," things like letters of recommendation or a cover letter explaining your story and why you deserve X. The kind of stuff Americans might be won over by, but the French will just scrunch up their brow at.

I just visited Paris for the first time the week before November at the "daddy" age of 57 and felt so much more relaxed.I would have loved to hear more about why they moved to Paris. I have since fantasize about living there maybe in my next lifetime..😢 I will say the Metro stations steps wore me out..Where the hell are the escalators for us lazy Americans?😅. Oh and there's this invention called the elevator too 😅.. I know I know the buildings are very old unlike myself 😂.

It's not the florist's fault... Parisian basements are humid. And peepholes are not common, given that people must ring from the building's entrance. A bit overpriced for the surface.
And... Well, the name of the Instagram account indicates where the apartment is...😉
