My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

@kaemmerphotography Hello, there will be a lot of volunteers for the Paralympics.
Disabled volunteers will take over from the able-bodied volunteers for the Olympic Games 👌🤗.

In the heart of Paris, where the rivers flow,
A city of wonders, where dreams brightly glow.
With the Eiffel Tower standing tall and proud,
    Athletes gather, fierce yet unbowed.
In the streets of Montmartre, in the Champs-Élysées,
Joy and excitement fill every café.
The world comes together, in harmony’s song,
In the Parisian air, where we all belong.

For a bunch of reasons, I'm typically NOT a fan of The Olympics. Leave it to Paris to (somewhat) change my mind! I LOVED the Opening Ceremonies! OK, so I only watched the Opening Ceremonies and Jay's vlogs, but that was beyond good enough for me. Jay -- you gave me such a good idea of what things were like, without me having to brave the crowds, the heat, and all the boring sports stuff. Obviously, the athletes are truly amazing, but watching people swim laps or play soccer for hours on end just isn't my jam. Just a personal preference, no disrespect to others who are really into that. I think I'd be most happy hanging out in a quiet bar with Cooper. Anyway -- loved getting a taste of The Olympics in Paris! Thank you!

Absolutely awesome. Good on you for getting tickets to those events. They have to be one of the most iconic games ever with those amazing backdrops. I do hope they find some way of keeping that cauldron. It’s just superb! And congratulations Paul on completing the marathon 👏👏👏

This was fun to watch. Living in the suburbs (and having been out of town at the start, then gotten COVID when I got back) I didn’t see too much live and in person, mostly I experienced the Games via livestream. So I got a nice vicarious experience through your eyes. Looking forward to the Paralympics!

This was my first time watching g the Olympics and honestly….it made me love Paris even more. I of course rooted for Team USA but specifically for the women’s 3x3 basketball team because my favorite athlete Hailey Van Lith was on that team. While I’m sad that they did lose….they at least got the bronze medal so I’m happy for them. I kinda of wish we could run it all back, and do it all over again. It’s sucks that they took down the opening ceremony video because some groups of people can’t handle the history of another country’s culture.

Actually French do volunteer, just not in the same way as Americans. Thery mostly do it through the one million associations, which are a pillar of french society since 1901. The reluctance towards these Olympics was mostly political, anyone who applied was told they were slaving for Macron. And now they have memories for a lifetime. Thanks for the shout out, they deserve it

I see you followed the advice about the purple non-Coca Ecocup! It really is a nice one, lot better than the Coca one with a just a little logo about the sport.
For the fountains in Concorde they were ON 2 of 3 times I went there (succeeded to get last minute tickets for Basket 3x3, Skateboard, and Breaking 😎). And judging by the match you watched, the day I saw them OFF was the day just before you went, so maybe they had a temporary issue with them, and then they fixed it?
Didn't succeed to get tickets for Beach Volley sadly, while trying very hard on the last minute and resale tickets, only tickets I succeeded to get in cart were 450+€ :/

nonsense! the French know well what the volunteers have achieved. They have been thanked on numerous occasions by the highest authorities. We are the country in the world where there are the most associations with millions of volunteers. and it is one of the pillars of our culture and our nation. Why say that then?

“Because the French don’t understand volunteering”
How can one draw such a conclusion and judge an entire people on a few applause? Would you like to be told that all Americans are quick to judge entire peoples on their only little experience of the moment? One in five French people volunteer and give their time through an association. The majority of volunteers work in sectors such as recreation or social action, sport, culture, while others work for the defense of rights or causes, such as environmental protection, etc.!

    • @JaySwanson
      @JaySwanson  Před 23 dny +1

Yeah, it was poorly phrased in the moment - it's appreciated differently and there are major cultural differences around it, a far more nuanced subject than my comments here alluded to. My apologies 🙏
