That, the Junior FBI board, the Pink panther vs Sting and Don't stop believing were all so perfect that you get them memorized for life. Heck even the Christopher screenplay on Tony's party with the Euritmics song was top notch.
Haha, I always forget that Jackie Jr. existed. I just re-watched the series and...it's amazing how quickly your memory of him fades. He's just so incredibly unremarkable. 😄
The end of the Godfather with the door closing is a tribute to The Searchers with John Wayne. That film ends exactly like The Godfather. It's probably the greatest western ever made.
2:05 Silvio killing it with the Michael Corleone impression, shame he never did it towards the end as an throwback. He could’ve used it in so many scenarios too.
Not the most pleasant scene but I always thought Adrianna telling Christopher she cooperated is reminiscent of Kay and Michael’s “it was an abortion scene” in GF2. If you look at the way Chris and Michael’s tension build before lunging across the couch it’s nearly identical.
Totally agree, Also always thought it was more reminiscent of liotta and bracco in goodfellas when she flushes the drugs, especially the WHAT ARE WE GONNA DOOOOO?!?
The shots are actually kinda similar when you rewatch it. Especially the way he like lunges at Adrianna. Very similar to how Michael lunges and rushes at Kay to slap her after getting the news.
1:20 I believe is a reference to Vito buying oranges and then being shot at, seeing that he asks for an orange juice and then is shot at. Oranges were the sign of death in that movie
They let Puss mention uncle Jun right after Pauli mentions the scene where Fredo spills the beans about Johnny Ola. Definitely intentional and nice touch about needing Motrin these days. A nod to how much time has passed since he was in Godfather 2.
Heres one I think. In the episode "The Weight", when Chris and Sil go to meet the old mobsters in RI, one of those mobsters is played by actor Richard Bright, who played Michael Corleones bodyguard Al Neri. In the episode, the old mobsters reference killing a man named Tommy Neri, who is Al Neri's nephew in the Godfather novel. Its possible its a consequence, but knowing how David Chase and co. operate, they probably knew what they were doing.
I think when Janice calls tony after richie beat her, tony answering the call was just like when sonny took Connie's call after carlo beat her. Way different circumstances though
Same way his partner missed from point blank range, shot his accomplice...then moved close enough for Tony to grab the gun instead of unloading the clip into him from where he was standing. Just lucky I guess.
It's funny how the heavy wind when the guys shoot at Tony only affects the newsstand. The trees are all perfectly still, and when Tony walks back to his car, there is no wind at all.
This was excellent- I thought I caught every reference since I recently re-watched the series but there's some here that are fairly obscure. Thanks for posting!
You forgot one of the funniest scenes in 6A at Johnny Sacks daughters wedding when Christopher and Tony are talking about “asking a man for a favor on his daughters wedding day”
David Chase uses the Godfather references almost sarcastically as if to say to the viewing audience "hey morons, you still believe these scumbags are (The Godfather line) Men Of Honor ?" And while the Godfather portrayed these criminals as delusional murderers without any moralizing, Chase wanted to drive the point home. In the series the criminals stab each other in the back , beat to death a young mother pregnant with a second baby, rob and strangle to death an elderly lady and other heinous crimes on a daily basis. Seems Chase had an ax to grind with Coppala's portrayal of the mob
The mobsters in Godfather were older generation and much wealthier than street Thugs we see in Sopranos. They are obviously more classy in Godfather as they have far more power and money, but from scenes like horse head we still can observe that mafia in Godfather is ruthless as well.
That's why Sopranos is much similar to Goodfellas. The way Scorsese potrayed mobsters in his movie is exactly how they are potrayed in the serie. And there are a lot of references to Martin score's too.
