      Hi, what state are you from? I was just wondering, because while watching I looked up gun-ownership numbers for the various states, and it turns out that it varies widely, with Montana in the lead, with 66% of households having at least one firearm, and New Jersey dead last, with only 8% of households having a gun. My state, Maryland, is pretty close to average, at 30%. Anyway, it seams to me that even in a state like NJ, we can really say that almost no-one has a gun, when almost 1 out of ever 10 homes you pass on the street contains at least one. Also, living in Korea, I was wondering if you were aware of the recent Supreme Court which basically says that nobody has to show a good or substantial reason for why they need a permit to carry (not merely own) a gun in public? Now almost every state is effectively a ‘shall issue’ state, where anyone who passes a basic background test must be given a concealed (or open) carry permit, as long as they complete a few hours of training. Except of course for the states which don’t even require any kind of permit to carry a gun (so-called 'Constitutional Carry’ laws).

      @@fordhouse8b She's said before she's from Boston and Massachusetts is a very anti-gun state.

    • @fordhouse8b
      @fordhouse8b Před rokem +3

      @@HistoryNerd808 I know it is. My main point was that even in a state like that, there are many more guns, and people who own them, than in the UK. There are only a bit less than 600 000 people in the UK certified to own a gun, and close to 28 million households. This means that at most, approximately 2% of households in the UK has a gun in it. The comparable number for Massachusetts is 9%, or 4.5 times higher. This in the US state with the second lowest rate of firearms ownership. Also, on a sidetone, it misestimated that the average (not median) gun owner in the US has 8 guns, and that 3% of the people in the US possess more than half the guns in the country, which are estimated to number 393.3 million. This means that 3% of the population, or less than 10 million people, collectively possess close to 200 million guns. So a higher percentage of people in the US own a dozen or more guns, than the then percentage of people in the UK who own just one gun. Massachusetts may be very anti-gun by American standards, but compared to the UK, it is a gun owner's, or aspiring gun owner's paradise. Additionally, due to a recent Supreme Court decision, almost anyone is now allowed to, or will soon be allowed to obtain a carry permit, without having to provide any reason whatsoever. In the UK, people are more or less prohibited from even owning a handgun, while they are not only legal to possess, but can be legally carried on your person, all day, every day, in most places.

    • @HistoryNerd808

      @@fordhouse8b Yeah. I live in Texas where we finally just went constitutuonal carry last year after years of it being stonewalled by the former(recently retired) Speaker of the state House(arguably the most powerful position in state government) but the current Speaker, a guy named Dade Phelan, supported it so it was able to get through. I'm not a gun owner because I'm still trying to get a stable job somewhere in this country but once I do, I do plan to eventually become one. In most of this country, guns are seen as simply a tool that can be used for good or ill, rather than the way most of the world sees it and self-defense as a fundamental human right, not a privilege.

      Well, I think about why a lot of them say they hate Meghan Markle so much versus Kate. Most of them say it's because "you shouldn't air your dirty family laundry" out in public. Meghan is honest and straightforward about her experiences being associated with the Royal family, while Kate "holds it together" as they often say. While British people have a straight-forward way of saying things when they say it, if you listen closer, you'll realize they're not giving much away at all about their personal lives or true feelings on matters. Not too deeply anyway.

    • @8_BlackOut_8
      @8_BlackOut_8 Před 8 měsíci

      @@GenerationNextNextNext That is a good point- In my opinion, some of us sorta do it unintentionally, since we’re usually taught to not give out personal information- obviously, if you have a higher status, then you’d be taught that even more. Coming from a normal person here, I was taught from the age of around 5 that you can’t give too much personal information away in general, and especially not to certain people. If you give personal info out in public, then certain people can use it to their advantage / benefit at your cost. I’d imagine that people with a higher status are pretty much taught that (to a higher degree) from the age of 1-3, so that could possibly be a reason as to why most people / citizens avoid giving away that much personal information to the public.

    It's very tough to compare the whole United States to any individual country. The U.S. is quite large, and the people are quite different depending on where you live. Also, growing up in South Dakota I saw many Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles all the time.

    • @southcoastinventors6583
      @southcoastinventors6583 Před rokem +4

      @helgaioannidis9365 Před rokem +9

      @@southcoastinventors6583 Within EU 46 different languages are spoken and 25 languages are official languages.
      I'm German and if I go to a neighbouring country like Belgium, Denmark, Hungary or France I don't understand the languages spoken there. Countries in the EU don't even all use the same writing systems. If you go to Greece you see this: "είσοδος" and you can't even guess how to read it.
      But even within my country, Germany people from the northern part of the country can't understand the southerners when they speak their local dialects, which by some linguists are considered a language on its own.
      So the cultural diversity within EU is much, much, much, much, much, much bigger than within the US.
      I'd say the diversity within the US is like the diversity within Germany or within France.
      If the US had the kind of diversity EU has, each state would have to have a different official language. Imagine in Texas they speak German, in Alabama French, in California Spanish, in New York Dutch, in Massachusetts Swedish, in Maine Polish, in Tennessee Greek, and so on and that's the official languages of each state and people there have to learn English at school as a second language. That's how EU works.

    • @helgaioannidis9365
      @helgaioannidis9365 Před rokem +2

      @@southcoastinventors6583 I wasn't doubting that the US are diverse, I was explaining why the claim that the US are like a more integrated form of EU is wrong. If the local native languages were the only official languages in the states and each state only used one or two specific local native language, your claim might be true. But as the US are now, the diversity in the US is very different from the diversity within EU.
      Imagine in New York everything is written in Chinese and everybody speaks Chinese and some learned Navajo at school, which you too learned at school and to communicate you need to speak Navajo. And there are people from Nigeria, India, China, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Thailand, Syria, Turkey and many other countries living there, speaking Chinese, because that's the official language and they learned it so they can communicate. And then in New Jersey they speak Thai and learn Navajo as a second language and the foreigners who live there speak Thai. So people from New York to communicate with people from New Jersey woul need to speak Navajo with each other, because their native languages are very different.
      A country that is definitely some kind of more integrated form of EU could be India I guess.

      I thought quite the opposite. While I think she was saying things with a bit of humor, I don't believe she was saying what she really thought honestly. Especially when the post about the Americans being about "freedom, guns, bald eagles, and burgers". You could tell she was holding back. I'm an American, and an African American at that, so maybe that's just how I culturally read the cues?

    • @GenerationNextNextNext
      @GenerationNextNextNext Před 8 měsíci

      As an American, I was taught to shower every day. So, it's new for me. I sweat at night, too, so I feel like I should do this daily. I've never tried it your way or never thought about it. When I get a depressed day off, a day when I don't feel like washing, I won't feel so bad, since I know someone in the world doesn't think it's bad. I just need to have the courage.

    I'm not a gun person but I mean, the gun part....not far off. I think if you live in northern states it's less common to see it being openly carried, but if you consider all the southern states and the size of population of those states, and add that there are many people even up north (especially in major cities and areas with farms/ranch and wilderness) who carry, I would say yeah, probably a majority. It really also depends on the open carry law in those states. You'll definitely see it more in southern states out in the open. I'm in Texas and growing up I can specifically remember a few men who will have a gun holster in church (back when I forced to attend); kid you not, a gun on one hip, a bottle of hot sauce on the other.

    • @kellzilla
      @kellzilla Před rokem

      Not a majority. Only appx 45% of households in the US has at least one gun. HOWEVER, there are enough civilian-owned guns in the US to give every single person (including kids) a gun, with millions still left over. That means those 45% of households average a bit over 2 guns, but there are a terrifying number of households that have TEN OR MORE guns, which skews the statistics.

      Not entirely a North vs. South thing. Some of New England is very high, and a few also don't require licensing or paperwork for longarms at all, Mass notwithstanding. Also a lot of the northern midwest is pretty high for ownership.

    @ 3:29, "In America, you can literally get a military grade..." That is a common generalised misconception that non "gun-savvy" people make. They look at an AR-15, AK-47, or a Ruger Mini-14 tactical rifle, and call them "weapons of war". On the contrary, they are what we gun enthusiasts call sporting rifles.

    Actually freedom, guns, bald eagles, and burgers isn’t too far off. This lady likely lived near a highly populated area which is usually liberal and doesn’t have many guns. But if you live in the Midwest, south, or the west (like Montana Wyoming and Arizona area not California) then you will see a lot of gunslinger here in the Midwest we see a lot of bald eagles, there’s actually one that lives really close to my house. And we do like our burgers.

    In the U.S., most people who own guns will be law enforcement or military or will live in rural areas or cities steeped in a rural culture (like in Texas or other parts of the West or South). Your typical resident of a typical non-rural area won't own a gun.
