      Sam Roberts that is true. Plus it costs less to make the house in America if it was the same size as the average houses in Britain. But more if you made a British house the size of an average American house. As they are made out of different things.

    You could argue that Britain has less cars per capita because of far better public transport which is mostly state funded. You don't really need a car in Britain unless you live in a very small town or village.

    • @mygooseshrine
      @mygooseshrine Před 7 lety +102

      Pfffft Britain has terrible public transport, the main reason is because people are less dependant on cars because cities are more compact compared to cities in America which are made up of expansive suburbs.

    • @mygooseshrine

      @shix1Resolve Před 7 lety +26

      fe so true. been in both. used to think Britain was expensive for transport but in America it's similar price and totally unreliable. you can't really get far without your own car there in America.

    • @fe3535
      @fe3535 Před 7 lety +82

      America's public transport is atrocious when compared to Britain. 'Cities more compact', have you never heard of London? Manchester maybe? Birmingham? The three major cities of the UK are not compact and arguably are made up of more expansive suburbs. Greater London is the same size as the country of Luxembourg, so please tell me how those suburbs are 'compact'.

    • @Laraisthebomb1212
      @Laraisthebomb1212 Před 7 lety +62

      Healthcare is not an easy debate. The NHS means worse quality, longer wait times, less R&D, less innovation, but better access means that people don't die from curable illnesses. The American system means that they have the best surgeons, most innovative procedures and treatments, and the highest standards within their private healthcare system, but the poor have a terrible time and even die from preventable illness. It's a debate worth having - partisanship detracts often - the right values the quality, choice, effectiveness and freedom of privatisation, the left values a society where the wealthy pay a bit more so that those less fortunate can be looked after. It's not easy, as someone who has experienced both types of healthcare (the public system in the Netherlands and the private sector in New Zealand) I can say I much preferred private, however as I can afford insurance and medical bills this is obvious (who wouldn't prefer a far better product.) However, it troubles me that people have to sell their homes or even die because they can't pay to save their life, kids getting sick because they couldn't spare $50 to see the doctor. A system where children and necessary procedures (eg heart surgery rather than breast implants) are paid for publicly but run privately would be ideal - the government foots the bill for low income patients who receive the highest quality for the lowest price, basically utilising all the benefits of the free market whilst also making sure that your society is looked after. This beats both systems: avoids forcing people into insurance (obamacare), avoids low quality and inefficiency (NHS), and avoids unfairness (total free market)

    I chose to live in England as there are so many costs and taxes in the States it eats your wage. Couldn’t believe the cost of everyday groceries in Walmart compared to Tesco, it was like double! Running a car can be cheaper in the States but the cars in England are usually more efficient. The biggest thing for me however was convenience. In the States I had to drive miles just do do a basic shop. Here in England even small towns have everything I need within a small walk. Both countries are great in their own way, I guess it just depends on how you live your life.

      Matthew Washer: Hahahahahahaha. Go back to school, mate. Great Britain is a single island containing England, Scotland and Wales. Ireland is a different island, but the Northern part is governed by the UK (as it's part of it). The 'British Isles' is an outdated title that is rarely used any more. The Republic of Ireland is a separate sovereign state, but Northern Ireland is part of the UK, not the Republic of Ireland. Have you never heard of the Troubles? The whole reason for them is because of the UK/Ireland dispute in Northern Ireland. Just Google it to avoid sounding really, really stupid in future.

    • @TSNorm
      @TSNorm Před 6 lety +15

      They should have done a bit of research instead of taking what the BBC told them. In actuality USA men are taller than British. The Average British male is not 5'10. the ave female is not 5'5. Some simple research could have saved them from this.

    • @dfirthc
      @dfirthc Před 6 lety +34

    • @TSNorm
      @TSNorm Před 6 lety +4

      dfirthc An actual 5"11 is on the tall side for all countries. Average American male is roughly 5'9, average British male slightly less. Those numbers are from studies where heights were measured, not self reported. On that note, however, there are several "studies" giving different numbers which calls into question how accurate any of them are and how representative the samples are. Why use measured over self-reported? Because just like women lie about their weight, rounding down, males tend to up their height more than what they actually are.
