  • Learning and practicing static balance on your motorcycle is the first of the most important fundamental skills for proper dirtbike, dual sport, and adventure bike riding.
    Once you can balance on a stationary motorcycle with both feet on the pegs, you will be able to progress to more experienced skills like slow wheelies, tight turns, double-blips over obstacles etc. I am nowhere near getting into the more advanced skills. In fact, I could only static balance on my bike for 2 seconds before this video!
    In this video, I wanted to see how much progress I can make with my static balance on the motorcycle after 30 minutes of intesive practice. The results were astounding!!! Check for yourself.

      Thanks, Rick! Keep practicing, it will happen. For me, it clicked very suddenly. Funny thing is, two days later it felt like I am starting over. But then after 4 min it suddenly clicked again. Very strange. It must be something very small and you're there.
      Something I didn't mention is that I've been doing proprioception exercises for running (after an injury) for a few weeks. By bio said I must stand on one leg with my eyes closed for 30sec at a time. It was also impossible the first time, but now much easier. I think it could have played a role. Let me know how you progress.

    Well done Frannie! I have never tried static balancing on my bike, however i have done some slow riding (balance riding for a lack of a better word) so i am definitely no expert, however i found that shifting my upper body position to over the handlebars and bending my elbows to make almost a 90deg angle gives me a lot of control for technical slow riding. I wonder if it will make it easier for static balancing or worse if you lean to the front even more...it will definitely put more weight on the front wheel that might assist...
    Perhaps i must also start practicing - it might be some good exercise...

    • @GreaseAndGravel
      @GreaseAndGravel  Před rokem

      Thanks, Kokkus! I am 100% sure you will be better at this than I am. But I've got the advantage with the little AG vs your heavy Tenere. Give it a go and let me know :) Good idea with the leaning fwd. I will try it next time. Will also lower the center of gravity even more.
