Lionel Rose, former world bantamweight champion, scored a crushing 5th round knockout over Mexican featherweight champion, Vicente Garcia in their scheduled 10 round fight at Melbourne's Olympic Park Velodrome tonight. Rose, having his first bout in the featherweight division, flattened the Mexican with a perfect right hand counter to the jaw at the 2:00 minute mark of the 5th round. He clearly outpaced the flat-footed Mexican, picking him off with flashing two-handed punches to the head and body and won every round.
It was reported that this was the first knockout suffered by Garcia in his 58 pro bouts.
