    A long time ago I tried to learn React after two-three months of Javascrip and I didn't get a thing so I took a break from programming for a few months thinking I was too dumb to code. Then I spent nine months or so doing vanilla PHP and JS and building things from scratch, and one I decided to revisit React because I needed a job and I managed to pick up the basics in about a day.

    Hey, used to watch your material back in 2020 when I was thinking about getting into software, long story short, I am a developer now and been working for exactly 2 years now after studies. Few days ago, I started to think about the freelance route again and this popped out in my feed, thank you!

    I can totally agree with what you are saying. The best way for transition from a fulltime job to a freelancing business seems to be reaching a stable income of at least 3 month money. I have quit my regular job on the first glance to early (had over 10K a month, but no time for mining new clients). Now i switch back to a fulltime job for 2 years and establish my freelance stuff beside, that is much better for me. For sure there is alot of "payed lessons" along the road. That was one for me. Never give up is probably the most important one.

    As an aspiring web developer, I really had to look back on a few of your videos to understand the difference between web designer and web developer and which is more in demand as a freelancer, which you've mentioned a little in this video.
    I'm curious how much work is available as a front end developer (web developer), and if I can rely on that without web design as a freelancer. I'm certain you've addressed this in many of your videos, but that's where I'm currently interested in.
    Thanks for the videos. I've been binging them lately and really awesome/inspiring stuff! So much of what you say relating to "freedom" and freelance really hits me on an emotional level, which has me excited.

    Thank you for the information!! I've watched multiple videos of yours over time 😁.
    I have a few standalone/separate questions, more for your opinion, if you don't mind..?
    - As a newer web freelancer, what is your take on attempting recurring monthly work (i.e., maintenance and SEO)... avoid it until you're more comfortable and do set it and forget it sites?
    - What is your take on being a hosting reseller for your clients to avoid dealing with whatever host they choose or not having full admin control over their site in the event of non-payment?
    - Are you aware of any thorough courses on HTAccess or should I avoid it altogether (when hand-coding sites from scratch)? I love how Flask/Django/ExpressJS sites don't have the ".php", however I get mixed info on tampering with HTAccess and it does not seem like there are a lot of good tutorials... I do enjoy hand-coding in lieu of getting knees-deep in bloated frameworks.

    Hi Uncle Stef could you speak on the new federal rule for independent contractors taking effect in June? Anyone on a 1099 under their social security number now has to create an LLC to continue doing business as an independent contractor. This seems to force significant overhead (insurance, workers comp, LLC filing, hiring an account, etc) on anyone starting a business, including freelancers.

    Steph this was truly a fantastic summary, very clear and helpful. But I wonder, as you mentioned for a web designer what's need is the knowledge of core web tech (html,css,js,php,wordpress, sql etc), but what about the actual design of the website, the the way we structure the content, UI,UX, style and feel. It's quite daunting! Does that mean that we should mainly depend on templates or just hire a designer?

    • @nickronkibunei5223
      @nickronkibunei5223 Před 29 dny +2

      Learn the core which is HTML, CSS, JS, PHP and the rest will fit like jigsaw. If you learn CSS you will be good in bootstrap or tailwind which simplify UI/UX similarly js will enable you work with libraries like react or Vue. WordPress comes with editors like elementor or divi which has good UI UX.

    • @TheApeWonder
      @TheApeWonder Před 29 dny +4

      I’m a front end developer and senior UX/product designer. You NEED to ask the right questions to your client - understand their focus and needs first, then do a wireframe where content and purpose is prioritized. It’ll help SO much.
      Coding is fun BUT that comes after all that, otherwise you’ll code without direction and the client will change their mind etc etc. Design is also MORE than good looks, it’s about understanding needs, problems, goals and vision then guide/structure the designs from that THEN code.
      Diving straight into code is a bad idea. OP ask the right question here.

    Job market is so bad right now and I'm sick of being at the whims of some CEO trying to please some faceless shareholder by giving me the boot to balance their budgets. 10 years of experience primarily in front end and would love to get into freelance but finding clients just isn't easy to do. Everyone says just "network" but doesn't explain HOW to do that. Sure 'go to events' but that doesn't work if you live in bumfuck nowhere. I would wager the majority of us who have the disposition to sit in a room for 12 hours a day learning software related things generally aren't the type to have the disposition to be able to network effectively even if we knew where to go.
