Thanks for the video. We are watching District 9 (2009) directed by Neill Blomkamp with our Year 11 students. This short video has provided valuable background for understanding the film.
Why only focus on district 6 ?? so many other areas was also affected. we were in our teens, when my parents had to vacant our home in Harfield, now called harfield village. it saddens me when I'm in the area, to see the house I was born in, occupied by people who just don't know the history of forced removals.sêmanet
So are those characters in the book of district six real like Zoot, Mary etc…Or they were just made up By Richard Rive to just give a sense of what happened during those times?
Years ago I went to a party and the host offered me a glass of white wine when I refused, he asked if I was anti south african wine. My response was that I liked south african wine it was whining south africans I deplored.
District 6 was a slum. The buildings Balconies were falling down. Went threw there ever day from the late sixties till about 1976. Was a slum. Dangerous area

District Six was home. The best memories ever. The white gov't wanted it all. 😰
I wonder what would happen if this took place with all the prestigious areas which was once coloured occupied.
