  • It's that sad time when after 2 years with our gorgeous Elddis Avante 454 Sherwood we've decided to trade her in for a Bailey Pegasus Grande SE Brindisi. Find out how and why it's happened in this edition of Caravan Catchup.

Congratulations on the new caravan, exciting news and sounds like it will give you some more flexibility - always sad to see the old van go isn’t it.
All the best, David & Rachel 👍

Congratulations on the new purchase 😊we did the simulator thing. Went to lowdams to get a awning annex. For more space for our Bailey pheonix 420. And came back with a brand new pheonix 640 😊

Fantastic! We also did the same thing. Went to our local Jayco dealer (Au) to buy a new sink cover/chopping board and came away with a new 24’ van with double slide out. It did have a chopping board though 😆

Many congratulations on your new purchase. We were at our local dealer last week and had a good look at The Bailey Brindisi, and agree, it’s a lovely van. The extra width makes a massive difference and we do like the stable door, great if you’ve got a dog or kids too 👍

Congratulations on your new van. We had a Pegasus Grande Messina ( end bedroom, midships washroom) on a seasonal pitch for a few years. Loved the space and layout. Not so keen on the leaking roof strap on a brand new van. Hopefully Bailey really have sorted it now.

    Congrats.
We cannot upgrade as we would have to upgrade the car as well and that is not an option. Would love a bed like yours but we have a very comfy French bed. The youngest of our grandkids is 8 so when we are away with them (their parents have a van too) they often swap beds to sleep in our lounge - it makes a good double size bed that's comfy (& easy to do).
Look forward to seeing the new van.
PS we have Gold Cassoa storage just 10 mibs from home

Lindsay and I did much the same thing. I went to buy a new plug for the kitchen sink. Lindsay meanwhile bought a new caravan. Congratulations on the new caravan.

Can I ask you a question please, I see you had a Vaygo awning for the 454, is that the best one or did you see any others that would fit? I am considering a 454 because of the fixed bed and L lounge (so dog can sleep in lounge) but during day I want dog in the awning so wondered if any good awnings available, thanks. I had a grande sized 6 berth swift before but found pulling it too much hassle!

We bought the Vango Sonoma II which is an air awning and 4.2 metres long, 3 mtrs wide but that included the porch which is 1/2 a metre. It's now discontinued. I guess awnings are down to individual preference and budgets but the big advantage on the 454 is you don't have to worry about windows. We had a dealer special so had a front locker that the standard 454 doesn't have but we had the awning fitted so the front locker was outside the awning but the rear locker was inside. A 4.2mtr awning was just perfect a fit. We still have it and use it on our new caravan so we can't really say what is best. All we would say is there are massive differences in weight and price. Really hard to give you a recommendation. All I will say is that I am able to put the vango up by myself in less than 20 minutes. If you go for an air awning, consider a rechargeable air pump of something like the issabella hand pump which is high volume for low pressure and can be switched to lower volume so still easy to use as the pressure gets higher. Hope that helps a bit 😍

@@Coffeevaners thanks, so there should be a few available on the market, I noticed in your esssentials video you didn’t talk about awnings but for me it is an essential especially in smaller van when you need more space. Now I know the length (many thanks) I’ll check Isabella. You must find big difference with new van, mine will be more for weekend dog walking trips than longer stays so smaller is more suitable. The wide double axles hard to pull through Cornish B roads where I was spending most time.

@gmatthews7632 There are hundreds of awnings from a multitude of manufacturers. Some very lightweight and easy to put up but others very heavy and all season. Awnings are like caravans. It's what suits individual needs. It may be useful to have a look at Attwoolls Outdoors on CZcams who do loads of awning videos.
