Why the far right finds so much support among young voters in France | DW News

  • France is due to vote in snap elections at the end of the month, and polls show the opposition far-right National Rally could come out on top. Surveys also show that their message is resonating among young voters. In recent European elections, the far-right took in nearly 30 percent of the youth vote nationally. DW correspondent Sonia Phalnikar joined some of the party's youth wing southwest of Paris to see what's driving their rise.

This is what happens when you prioritize the lived of foreigners than your own citizens. I don't like the right wing generally but I believe you reap what you sow and European politicians and their supporters are to blame.

  • @josepedrosantiagosilva9625

In Europe, there's a growing sense of neglect towards the younger generation. They face lower salaries, longer work hours, and increased responsibilities while witnessing a surge in billionaires, particularly in countries like Germany.
The housing market adds to their woes, as property prices soar, making it difficult to afford homes, let alone start families. To compensate, cheap labor from abroad is often favored, leading to frustration among the youth, who feel betrayed.
People aren't inherently racist, but this frustration arises when governments prioritize external labor over addressing domestic issues. It's high time politicians acknowledge and tackle these pressing concerns rather than resorting to distractions. The younger generation deserves meaningful change.

    • @tomorrowneverdies567

The younger generation faces lower salaries than whose exactly? Longer hours than whose exactly? Increased responsibilities compared to whose exactly? @@pieroo7 I live in Athens, Greece.
"we can live easily like boomer generation" - how do you measure "easy" exactly? I could argue that we live harder than the boomers did.
"we can't make a family without risking to not living'" - living? Or do you mean "we can't make a family and afford yearly trips to NYC and buy expensivc products at the same time?
"Boomer lived easily doing a lot of debt and we will pay for it" - so? Are you aware how many times this has happened in history? A million times. Every time there was a war, the governments became almost bankrupt from borrowing money, and then they repayed this money with the next generations. And, the next generations sometimes lived better lives than the previous.
I can argue that you live a better life than your parents, because they could not talk to distant strangers on CZcams , only to their neighbors, and they also did not have work-from-home modes of work, fast telecommunications where you simply "message" someone, they payed ~1% of their salary for every minute they talked on the telephone, they did not have the computer and processor you now have, they did not have the gaming that now young people have, and they did not make yearly trips to NYC, LA, and other distant trips. So how exactly is the life of milenials and GenZ more difficult than that of boomers exactly?
I will answer my question: because millenials and GenZ do not have their own families largely. Why? Not because they are poor. But because they do not want to (because they want to have time for making trips, gaming, watching CZcams videos and so on). But this still makes them unhappy. They are satisfied with nothing.
I am 31 by the way.

Me: House market is crazy, rent the same. Working like crazy for 1900, and i spend half of them to rent and bills. i live with my gf in 2 bedroom house.
My parent: government employment both, they bought an house thank to state funding at 24. at 35 they bought an holiday house. They have 3 children and we visited more than half of EU..
I want kids but only if i can provide for them.

    • @tomorrowneverdies567
      @tomorrowneverdies567 Před 4 dny +2

@@pieroo7 You don't want kids I am afraid. Almost nobody does. You want "fun" and you also want to live in a place where the whole of Italy also wants to live, and this is the reason why your rent is very high. This is why you are here, watching CZcams videos, instead of trying to compute your expenses so that you can afford to raise at least one child (since you claim you want to make children).😁
Also, if you and your girlfriend make 1900 each, why don't you move to a village in the italian countryside, where rents are lower than the city I bet you are currently living in, and make and raise your children there? What is obstructing you then?
Also, based on my limited understanding, until the 1960s, the best thing most people could do for theirselves, in order to not be bored after they returned home from work, was to spend their free time with their children, and also their children took care of them in the end, because there were no or very few pensions. So the reason they made children was so that they had better entertainment and also better life when retired. But after the 1960s, better and better entertainment options appeared. The TV, video, films at your disposal, then the internet, then video games, then CZcams videos, facebook, tinder, etc. So why raise children for your free time entertainment, when these options are way more entertaining?
You also said that your parents had all these things. So? You have better computer than them, better cell phone, more modes of entertainment, you will travel to more countries in the EU than them in your lifetime. So again, how will you measure this "quality of life"? There are many ways.
I will try to answer my question again: with life satisfaction. Your parents were poorer than you are now, but they were nevertheless more satisfied than you (and me and many people) are now. But you are not dissatisfied because you cannot afford things, but because you have no purpose in your life, no inspiration, and you simply do not know what you want. And this is what you want: fun. And 99% of the people I see in this age area, want fun. And people until the 1960s (so boomers as you called them) also wanted fun.

Cause getting all your information from several seconds-long clips definitely does not distort anything ... On top of the usual social media, tiktok and instagram have further exacerbated this issue by making it incredibly easy to create compelling short videos that are completely void of context.

Discussions involving the far right often raise concerns about racism.

No, it raises questions about clashing cultures that can't integrate in the system that works for Europe.
      It's not the same.

This seems at least less biased than american news but still the wording and the way it is framed is ridiculous. It's like the words "far right" mean "monster," when everyone knows the real definition is just fairly moderate conservative. Did those kids you interviewed look like a threat to democracy? A young normal girl talking about feeling safe walking home... *gasp*

France's issues with democracy are embedded in its constitution (the ability to dissolve the assembly, to give the president dictator like powers when in crisis, the ability for the Prime Minister to bypass the legislative Chambers to execute laws).
Macron is already a threat to democracy, our national medias, now controlled by some of his uni friends are being dismantled while far right Fox News like channels are becoming the norm. He violently repressed protesters to the point of alarming international institutions, even recently in Kanaky New Guinea. For a while protests for Palestine were outlawed.
But this is just the begining. The far right wants more repression. With them at the presidency in the near future, because of our constitution, this could go down really fast. You have to remember a lot of dictators won their elections fair and square before attacking democracy. Also them winning would unleash the violent ultra right groups, with whom they still have strong ties with, they are already going wild. Well, we'll see how all of this goes.

Immigration as a whole is a terrible idea whoever made it Legally or Illegally. It is not a solution for filling gaps for decreasing labor force of a country. Instead governments must take measures to solve this very problem otherwise end up with this mess.

I assume that you're being sarcastic.
You don't really get upset over the fact that over the years some of the most prominent
TV news hosts in the United States have been Canadian or British people do you?
      If so, that's really weird.

    1:00 - 1:10
This country once had a philosopher named "Frederic Bastiat" who wrote a treatise against the sun! He wrote to mock the "protectionists" in economy. Today, a party is gaining power (NR) that is officially against the free market and supports "protectionism"! And people hope that it will solve economic problems! This is due to the low level of political awareness in society. They think that extreme right! means hard defense of capitalism! It is seen even among the supporters of their party. They think that more "rightism", means more economically efficient!
But the only thing that these parties can support is: spreading hatred and creating more divisions between people.
But this is not the whole story. These Economic demands are funny! (1:00 - 1:10) They want more public facilities, a demand that requires more taxes. On the other hand, they vote for the far-right to pay less taxes! They want costs to be reduced! but prices are high due to the energy crisis for example. But factory owners need "cheap labor" to compensate and lower the final price of their products. While they want to evict this current immigrants! I am sorry for their logic!
