    NOTE: one thing we did not discuss is efficiency of running units. In general if being uses as a primary heater gas Fireplaces will be much more cost efficient to run unless you are on full solar.
    Today we settle the debate between gas and electric fireplaces! We break down the differences of each fireplace into four categories; Performance, installation, aesthetics, and cost. It’s really up to the customer on what will work best for them. We created this video to help others know the difference between these two types of fireplaces.
    We start out by reviewing gas fireplaces. Trevor opens up with performance and explains why gas fireplaces will be better for heat. Gas fireplaces radiate more heat into rooms because of the real fire source. If you are looking for heat, a gas fireplace is the way to go. One negative thing about gas fire places is the installation. Installation can be tricky for direct vent units and pipes have to go through the roof or a side a wall. Watch the video to learn more about the aesthetics and cost.
    Trevor reviewed electric fireplaces second. Unlike gas fireplaces, installation for electric units is very easy. Electric fireplaces don’t require any venting and they have the options to be narrow which makes install a breeze. One of the draw backs of electric fire places is the inability to heat as much as a gas unit. Electric fireplaces are used more fore warming a small area like a room as compared to gas fireplace which would be used to warm a larger area.
    Watch the video to learn more about aesthetic and cost.
    Both of the two types of fireplaces are great. It’s up to you on what will best suit your needs. Trevor breaks down some major points in this video and we hope you learned something from our video!

    I had mostly 2 gas fireplaces 23 years. With reno my den now has electric. My bedroom has gas with battery start, in case of a prolonged power outage.

    Which fireplace was shown at the 20:30 mark?

    13:25 electric fireplaces starts - I want a minimal depth focal wall with a linear fireplace with tv over top for my family room. I'm thinking differently now from watching these videos, if you are looking for electric heat source as well, build out your "fake fireplace wall" with a baseboard heater at the bottom ( leave a gap under the fireplace wall for the baseboard heater and just have the electric fireplace for aesthetics). These electric fireplaces are just not there yet with heat technology. Plus I have no water source for a vapor install in this location. I'm in Canada, Arizona made products probably don't factor in use in -20°C climate.
    These fireplaces seem quite gimicy and just focus on the Walt Disney World looking flame colour, bed and background options, it's basically an expensive lamp.
    How about a horizontal water bubble wall feature with heat or something like a lava lamp instead of trying to make a "realistic- looking" electrical fireplace flame? The flames don't look that great even on the nice models.
    I will inset my television and use some led strips around the perimeter of it to play with some fun(ny) colour options at a much lower cost. Sorry guys, I am not sold on this technology, all of these manufacturers miss the mark on heat.

    Hello. I am just coming across this video. Thanks for the information. I am considering an electric fireplace for an outdoor fireplace because I don’t want to incur the the costs for install and permits for gas. What is the electric fireplace around the 20:01 mark that looked like flames between logs? Is it rated for outdoors?

    I was hoping to hear a comparison on the cost of operating them. Which one cost less to use, gas or electric?

    • @embersliving
      @embersliving  Před rokem

      it really varies by area and cost of your utilities, for example, NG just doubled in denver, and now is the same price as electric roughly

    • @MrEZBee
      @MrEZBee Před rokem

      One cubic meter of NG contains ~10 kWh of energy. They operate at different efficiencies: natural vent (50 to 60%), direct vent (60 to 80%), ventless (near 100%, higher risk, may be illegal where you live). Electric is 100%. Gas will output far more than electric (~3x more, or ~0.6 to ~0.9 kwh), but can over heat the room. Electric may have lower operating cost due to the reduced output even at max.

    what I don't get is the point in having a cool wall for a gas fireplace. if its only for visual purposes then doesn't it make sense to just get an electrical one?

They also sell water skis and tanning lotion in Denver. Denver has a summertime... people build homes in the summer around Denver... does he need to have snowboots and a parka on? Not to mention he has 900000 fireplaces going in one room...im betting its 85 degrees in there and 15 outside... but what does it matter?
