Featuring Natalia Osipova in clips from the ballets Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, and La Bayadere.
Born in Moscow, Natalia Osipova began formal ballet training at the age of nine. From 1996 to 2004, she studied at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (The Bolshoi Ballet Academy). From 1995 to 2004 she trained at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography and on graduating entered the corps of the Bolshoi Ballet, where she was promoted to principal in 2010. In 2011 she left the Bolshoi to join the Mikhailovsky Ballet as a principal.
Osipova has appeared as a guest artist with companies around the world. In March 2012 she became a principal of American Ballet Theatre, where she created the title role in Alexei Ratmansky's The Firebird. Her awards include Golden Masks for her performances in In the Upper Room (2008) and La Sylphide (2009), Critics' Circle National Dance Awards (Best Female Dancer, 2007, 2010 and 2014), Positano Dance Awards (Best Female Dancer, 2008 and 2011) and a Benois de la Danse Award (Best Female Dancer, 2008).

I have watchd her in your films dancing with SP, & consider them an astonishing pairing. Her gifts match his: height, extension, line, & particulary, expression.
Those exerpts from Romeo & Juliet......stopped my heart. Ive seen many versions of that ballet, including seeing Margo Fonteyn dance Julliet in her late 40s & you would have sworn she was teenage girl!
But Natalia....well.....there is an acting ability there that in my opinion surpasses Fonteyn’s.
I’m wondering, seeing that I have not watchd ballet for many years until I discoverd your films, if the dance has become more emotive in the recent past?
All I know is this: watching Sergei & Natalia dance evokes large & involuntary emotional responses. It’s disconcerting, but welcome, at my age.

Yes... I thought I’d seen Juliet until this. My dearest dream is to see Natalia and Sergei dance the star crossed lovers together. OMG I do not think I’d survive it though. My heart would surely fracture beyond repair. The beauty would be fatal.

Pam Boehme Simon: I was thinking, Ms Pam, of my childhood when I watchd this for the 3rd or 4th time. I was a very smart child who had difficulty processing big emotion.
I would put my parent’s records on, like Swan Lake, & pretend to be a ballerina. I would feel thru the music, attempt to dance, & dance until the emotion workd thru.
To this day, classical music (actually, most good music) does that to me. I seem to feel the emotion in music almost more than the emotions of life; at least, I seem to feel things that those around me do not.
Perhaps this is why your films so move me. They are a direct line to my innermost person, & my heart soars with the dancers you showcase, & your uncanny ability to fit music to motion.

Come non si può piangere almeno una volta vedendo Natalia!? A me il cuore non lo rompe soltanto, lo frulla in un frullatore, lo getta dall' Everest, lo brucia, mette le ceneri in una cassaforte di ferro, ci versa l'acido sopra dopo le rinchiude in un' altra cassaforte di ferro lo getta nella fossa delle mariane! Ogni personaggio le si incolla alla perfezione, da Kitri a Nikiya, da Maria Vetsera a Giselle! E' fresca, giovane! Mette tutta se stessa quando balla! Ogni singola fibra del suo corpo interpreta alla perfezione il ruolo! Sa interpretare perfettamente un personaggio che sta impazzendo dalla gioia e uno che sta morendo dal dolore della tristezza! Tutto questo per dire che l'adoro e che mi emoziono quando balla! Non so come reagirò quanto smetterà di ballare (penso molto male) vederla dal vivo è una delle cose che desiderò di più! Alcune persone l' hanno definita un fenomeno da circo, io proprio non capisco come si può dire una cosa del genere! La sua Giulietta veramente magnifica così come la sua Giselle e Nikiya! Il momento che colpisce di più è 4:13, quando tenta di dare un ultimo bacio all' amato, non riesce con il corpo quindi lo fa con una mano, ma non riesce neanche a raggiungere il viso di Romeo! Oltre al fatto che Natalia è tecnicamente splendida (i suoi giri, i suoi salti fanno venire le vertigine) le si raggiunge quest' espressività magnifica! E' proprio la migliore! Grazie mille Pam (anche il sottofondo è splendido)!

Margot Fonteyn was nowhere Natalia, or any Russian ballet dancers, Natalia the best beyond a shadow, even if her technique didn’nt put her in front, her acting is superior to anyone.
