    Culling is one of the most effective methods for controlling cards. It is quick, clean, and invisible when done correctly.

    Great tutorial. Future suggestion: when attempting to show a controlled card in a tutorial, flip it over so it can easily be tracked among the other cards.

    Since we're among friends, if you turned the chosen card face up, the contrast makes it easier to see for some demonstrations (such as this one). Never thought about a mirror. Great idea. You just need something bigger than a phone. ;-)

  • @leryazam3686

    I have a good tip to move the bottom card easily : Left hand holds the deck in dealing positon and takes a pinky break on the bottom card, right hand moves the deck forward (just a little) to get a backward jog of the bottom card. Then the right hand comes and hold the deck with the inner side of the right little finger touching the jogged bottom card and the 3 right fingers below the deck. With the deck now in the right hand, you naturally have a grip of the top and bottom card and with only a slight pressure of the right hand fingers you can move the top and bottom cards to the right while the left hand starts spreading the deck open (both actions happening at the same time)
    And even better, when you tap the deck to show the "selected" card : the inner side of the right little finger is still laying on the bottom side of the deck, so it naturally helps to square the deck perfectly so the forced card does not appear unlogically jogged.
    cheers !

      This really isn`t a trick, it is a technique...don`t waste it as a trick unless you use some form of Time misdirection....as a trick it has very limited use, as a technique you can make a huge amount of routines based on this one and a single 2.nd move

    Maybe this will help beginners like myself (been doing card magic for exactly 4 days). Instead of gently opening up the spread with a nice even spread starting with the top card, take a nice chunk off of the top and get to the center of the deck pretty quickly so your mark is picking from the middle to bottom half of the deck. This allows for a smoother cull since the card doesn't have to clear so much of the remaining deck. If they take from the top half, the target card has to drop pretty far to clear and you may end up flashing. I was working on this in front of a full length mirror and could see every move, but when i started ripping big chunks off of the top of the spread, it made the move much less angle sensitive. Once you get good at that, start moving further forward in the deck.

    • @ApiolJoe
      @ApiolJoe Před 6 lety +1

      I have very small hands. To avoid flashing I changed my spread grip to have my right index finger over the top edge of the deck. This way even when my handling is sloppy (i'm training the move by culling all the cards of the same suit for example and I began magic 10 days ago) I have no flash. I find the move very little angle sensitive with the index finger covering the top. Actually it is angle sensitive, the worst angle is from my eyes, which should not be an issue haha!

    • @ApiolJoe
      @ApiolJoe Před 6 lety

      The hand that holds the culled card has my index finger covering the top of the deck. I changed my spread grip to have this. The only thing that gives away the move is either sloppy cull (and they can see the card being culled inside the spread) or the middle and ring fingers moving to pull the card (but this is very minor, only someone knowing what you do would notice these fingers working, especially if hidden behind the index).

      While we wait for 52K to chime in, I will say Richard Turner Gold Star Bicycle 808 cards are really good. I like to use Bicycle 808 backs, because everyone is familiar with them, The Gold Star version is cut the traditional way, not punched out. It does not get fuzzy on the edges and collect grime as much as the Standard version. GS cards are made from Bee stock, which is better for manipulation. They require little if any break-in.

    • @ApiolJoe
      @ApiolJoe Před 6 lety

      Single card herman pass after having closed the spread works for me. I gather the cards with the hands, move the deck verticaly to finish squaring it thanks to gravity, this helps hide the single card herman pass.
      You can also put the culled card back in the deck and cut it to control it to the top, but in that case you didn't need to cull in the first place, you could just setup a pass for example.

    • @andreaseriksson9746
