In regards to an EMP, personally, I don't think it matters if your items are in a faraday cage or not because all the infrastructure will be fried. Lines, receivers, everything. So my focus is prepping to live without electricity. .............Really hope your feeling better, thanks for the video despite being sick.

The ground/earth debate is a tough one because if the cage gets hits first then it will dissipate to earth but if the electric grid gets hit then you could introduce pulse waves thru the earth/ground cable. A lot of variables.
With the microwave, I would remove the +/- cables from inside the machine - electricity can arc across small distances. Also remove the magnetron cos if that gets activated for even a few seconds - poofff - up in smoke

A ground wire is ONLY needed if there are conductors that enter the cage itself. In the situation with your steel briefcase, no ground is needed as it is a simple shell. For the microwave however, since you have conductors that enter the steel box, grounding it is a good idea.

@J L This goes back to the ground/earth debate. If a signal isn't dissipated then it is free to potentially amplify. Especially thru electronics left in the, in Lilly's case, microwave.
Try an earth spike rather than earthing thru the grid/sockets. The kind of thing you connect to aerials to protect from lightning strikes. But keep it separate from your grid ground and don't connect any electronic equipment to it. 0V is just where you set it so you can get a voltage drop and blow up equipment pretty easily

The best way to store your canned goods in the pantry is upside down, rather the right way up. This is in case a rat or mouse, or other crawling insects and bugs crawl across the top of your can and then the dirt and bacteria can fall into your food when you open it. The last thing you want if/ when the grid goes down is to have a bad case of food poisoning. It's also best practice to clean the cans when you're about to use them too.

The sad fact is, a faraday cage will not protect anything against a modern nuclear EMP, the power it too great. Both China and Russia have developed specialized nuclear devices that enhance the "E1" phase of the gamma induced EMP specifically to defeat defenses like yours, and Russia has already adapted them to their new hypersonic missiles. That's not to say they can't help, if such a detonation is far enough away, say 200 km or so, then you have an above average chance some of your devices will survive.
The best defense today is to do everything in our power to make sure such weapons are never unleashed. Let's hope the powers that be are smart enough not to back anyone who possesses them into a corner where they feel they have nothing to lose by using such terrible weapons.

The solar EMP is the speed of light burst from a solar flare, usually they cause radio blackouts for the duration of the flare.
Some solar flares are coupled with a CME, these are the wind of charged particles travelling at sub-luminal speeds, much slower but still able to travel the distance in half a day (really fast) to a week (really slow)
The CME needs three things to be a threat, high speed, high density and be earth facing.
There is a phenomena called the ‘earth facing solar quiet’ which makes it less likely (statistically) for a sunspot group to go all-balls-out when directly facing us (that’s a good thing)
If one of high speed density is ejected at earth the electronics attached to the grid are at risk.
It is incorrect (in theory) to state that a solar event cannot affect non grid linked items.
That purely depends on the magnitude of the flare.
Given that the 1859 Carrington was estimated at an X45 (+/- 5) and also given that the research paper titled “Statistical Properties of Superflares on Solar-type Stars: Results Using All of the Kepler Primary Mission Data” gives a possibility of stars like our sun twatting out an X700 or x1000 every 3000 and 6000 years respectively, I’d say that in this eventuality, you may want to wear your brown trousers.

In an emergency, tablets and cellphones are a necessity. Not because they can be used for communications or for land navigation via their GPS systems but because you can store a lot of PDF (ebooks) on a memory chip and access it from those devices. I suggest anyone doing so keep several pairs of cheap magnifying (reading glasses) around to save wear on their eyes. Also, if possible keep the batteries for electronic devices charge but do not store them in the device for two reasons. First to prevent trickle drain of the batteries and second to avoid having your device damaged should the batteries leak.

Appliances like a fireplace, solar oven, power tools or generators won’t be affected by an EMP. These non-electric appliances don’t necessarily operate with solid-state electronic controls and will probably still work when even after an EMP has blasted through your area.

To make a gasket/sealing strip you can use copper tape and a rubber sealing strip.
Take copper tape (fx the kind used to repell snails from gardening boxes) it has copper on one side and adhesive on the other side. put it with the adhesive side up and put in the sealing strip (fx P model) with the adhesive sides towards each other along the long edge.
Roll the copper tape and the sealing strip so the sealing strip become engulfed by the adhesive side of the copper tape, will take about half the length/depth of the copper tape and now you have something that looks like a P with the bottom half of the P having adhesive and the top half being squishy.
The bottom half you can now attach the adhesive side towards the top box part of the box, to hold the seal in the right place. The top part of the P (without the adhesive) you fold between the lid and the box and you have good conductivity between the lid and the box by the non adhesive sides of the strip being smushed against lid and box.
since you are going to store your equipment somewhere why not in a metal box, and if so then why not just make a seal so that no dust and so on comes in, and if you are going to do a seal anyway why not make it a conductive seal. there is little extra cost and if anything whatever happens its better to have it than not have it.
    Best of luck everyone!

You should add silica gel desiccant packs so there is not a buildup of moisture inside your Faraday cages. Condensation inside sealed boxes can also damage your sensitive electronics.

I love your videos Survivor Lilly ❤️ I discovered your videos watching you and Canadian Prepper camping in Canada back in 2019. You 2 had deep discussion about prepping versus survivalist. What gave me goose bumps is that you discussed weather you thought if pandemic or war would be in your lifetime. How scary to know what is coming in just couple years. Stay safe everyone. Much love

I have a similar power bank. Mine is from Jackery. I've used it several times when we've had power failures. It will power my WiFi router, my cable box and a 65" TV for 3 hours and still had 45% power left. It also charged 2 tablets, a phone and a small flashlight.

just to point out some things. to work a faraday cage need to be a metal box with no gaps around what you want to protect. the box shown has a rubber seal and that isn't conductive and will not work. the foil will bridge that gap but make sure you make connection all the way around.

I bought soldering equipment and components. Fuses for the vehicles and house are also in my faraday cage. This is what I was prepping for when the pandemic hit.

@Lilly you could use copper wool sold as a pot scrubber to make a good seal for your lid. If you cut it into strips you can tape it oover the edge with aluminu,m foil tape used for sealing hvac ducts. Only tape the edges of the copper; so that it makes good contact wtih the other side. You want no gaps or it will leak.

What helps is putting a slightly smaller plastic box like a sealed tote inside the metal box. Then put your electronics inside the plastic box. A metal trash can with a smaller plastic trashcan inside is also a cheap large one. Find a sealed plastic box that fits inside of that microwave, or even a few very thick plastic bags like the ones used to brine a turkey.
