- Following an agreement with the copyright holder reproduced here is short film footage of a number of English and Scottish Football grounds taken during the 1979/1981 seasons. The original Cine film was shot in Super 8 format in colour and last approximately 90 seconds the quality is variable. (This version 640x480).
The footage captures the scene in and around grounds revealing the stands and terraces and they are a unique snapshot of crucially how the grounds appeared at the time before some of which disappeared forever or had yet to be redeveloped. Clubs not featured were either never filmed or they refused permsission to film at their ground.
In providing these clips respect respect the copyright holder and do not edit or redistribute any of the footage but links back to this post are fine.
Thanks to the Internet Football Ground Guide for their support. - Sport
Lovely old place. Football grounds were just perfect in the 70s.
I loved the old grounds of the time, with their own character and nostalgia, now all modern day grounds are massive soulless bowls without atmosphere or traditions.
Old Trafford looked quite a good ground for it's time!
What a rare video! Thanks for upload this video. Regards from Indonesia :)
Thank you for posting this.
incredible just to think what the ground is like now
Best times to be a UTD fan not like the card board cut outs of today.Always stood on the Stratford End and in those days you had to get in early, most times an hour before kick off before they closed the gates.Manic but loved it and can’t go today as you get a bollocking for standing up and have to SIT in a singing section if you want to show your true support.Atmosphere is shit and the prawn sandwich munchers dont know what their missing.Feel sorry for them as born in the wrong era.
What do you think should be done? I think we should demolish the Stretty and re-build it. No exec section, no corporate boxes, ONE-TIER and be all SAFE STANDING. It’s the only way to save the atmosphere
Reorganise it and make it like Dortmunds home end. No posh seats.
I remember in 92, Stretford End closed at about 1.30, make a dash for scoreboard paddock. Packed in like sardines, 48k on and a great atmosphere. "We all follow United...allo allo, we are the Busby Boys!!"
Yeah in the 70s Bell used to go off when Stretford end was nearly full had make a dash then to utd road or Stretford paddock
Does anyone know who this music is by and what it is called please?.
"Angela Undress" - Thomas Newman - American Beauty OST.
Best days for me not like the morgue of today.
Anyone know what this music is?.
It's from the soundtrack to the film 'American Beauty' (it's the music that plays over the famous 'plastic bag floating around' scene, if I remember rightly - here, if you haven't seen it: czcams.com/video/Qssvnjj5Moo/video.html).
What was capacity then?
Around 56’000
58,000
Main stand is the same structure as it was then. I don’t think the TV gantry has changed at all since I started going in 81.
too busy to get into it
pissin myself
you have to be very quiet and eat prawn sarnies
its now ugly as hell and everything a football ground should not be
anarcho vegan spot on mate. Cushioned seats and air conditioning next!
