Interview with Juan Fernando López Aguilar - How to improve migration management in the EU

Migration is one of the main concerns for Europeans nowadays. In this interview, the chair of Parliament’s home affairs committee, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, insists that it should not be seen as a threat, but as a fact that requires a joint approach by all EU countries.
As the EU finalises the adoption of new rules to improve migration and asylum management, López Aguilar says that the so-called migration package is “a step forward”, but “it will not be the end of the story”.
“There will be some other pending issues which are not comprehended in the package and are extremely relevant,” such as cracking down on the business model of smugglers and the trafficking of human beings, and establishing a European search and rescue framework, he said.
