About the magnification using the joystick with MF lenses, I've sent an email to Leica, there is a good chance of them bringing it back in the next firmware update, they told me that many people had complained about this function being removed from the joystick. I would encourage you to send them a short email with the same request, that might help! 🤓

I have a SL 601 and use this joystick with MF all the time. Did they change this feature in the SL2 also or just the SL2-s?

Hey @AskMOTT and @ madtom67! Thanks for the lovely video and thanks for bringing the joystick thing up. As a longtime SL2s user I noticed that, too and it has to be a faulty firmware and not on purpose, at least I hope so. Magnification via Joystick still works for me with a third party M-Adapter but not the original Leica M-Adapter. It might be that the camera (with the new firmware) recognizes the original Leica adapter as an autofocus lens. Thats why I am hoping they fix it soon and magnification is back. I am using my third party adapter for this period. If you own one, try it and let me know if it works for you too… or anyone else here. Thanks!
This is such a fascinating theme for a project. The disappearing, old Vietnam contrasted with the new. And what better symbols to represent them with than a man in a suit wearing a conical hat. And I love the idea of placing him in traditional (and maybe even non-traditional) environments. Looking forward to what becomes of this.

The Q3 battery fits the SL2-S and gives around 18% extra.

I love this video-for me, the perfect combination of local POV, tech assessment and image review. My fav was the model having breakfast with the families on either side. An absolute banger-but I’m a sucker for context and a bit of juxtaposition. Really, really enjoyed this. I suspect when the SL3 drops I will pick up a gently used SL2-S.
I’ve got 4 batteries total as well, nature of the beast, especially when shooting video. Using manual lenses does increase battery life though.

I’ve upgraded from the Q2 so I can use different focal lengths and I love the build quality and ergonomics. If 24 mega pixels is good enough for Justin, it’s good enough for Nuno 😉

love this concept. love and own the sl2s. I carry that thing around with me everywhere.
At first I thought it would be too heavy for street photography coupled with M lenses it's a great size.
Enjoy your SL2-S. Wonderful camera in low light to use with M glas. Short workaround for the joystick magnification while waiting for the new firmware to fix it. Just use a third party adapter like a Novoflex. It’s not recognisable by the camera unlike on the Leica adapter and joystick magnification is still there. 😀

I'd really be interested in seeing the whole take from one of the live shoots. I'm always interested in seeing a photographer's thought process as the shoot develops. Takes me back to the contact sheet or lightbox days and is something we've lost I think.

Definitely not the only one making noise about that joystick button change. Hoping Leica hears us and fixes that soon (for now, the back aperture wheel works to zoom).

Great pics! Until the 6.0 update, I could use the joystick to enlarge the image in the EVF. This modification of actions is not a good idea.
I can't sort out why they did that. I imagine if enough of us complain they will bring it back.
I love this concept, very intrigued to see how the project progresses. On the SL2-S firmware with using the joystick to zoom for focus - mine does still work that way after updating the firmware. I also love using it that way when adapting M or R lenses. Perhaps the setting went back to default and you need to reassign it?
Hello Austin, first off thanks man. Regarding the firmware I thought that might be the case but I tried to map it afterwards and no luck and then I looked online and saw so many people has the same issue. Do you have 6.0 or 5? I'm pretty sure you can't map in 6.0 so don't upgrade.
@@AskMOTT yeah I’m on 6.0! Maybe it’s an issue only some are having then. That’s a bummer! Hopefully Leica can send a patch soon.

Sort of, some of them won't be portraits in the final project but I'm still working through the concept.
