@@laylacuriel6197 LoL, that's how I'm spending my evening. I think this is my 10-15 reaction video. And I still get the goosebumps and get misty. And according to ask the reviews, I'm not the only one. That performance was so good people from other countries are tearing up.
I'm from Tampa. My father was the chauffeur for the Giants that game to and from the game of which they won. He was there live inside the stadium when she sang. He said the roar of the crowd was incredible when she finished. He said it was the best.

On January 27th 1991, I saw this playing live while I was in labor with my first child at around 6pm. I gave birth at 8:36pm (approximately halftime, conveniently. Lol) I witnessed the faces of two STRONG WOMEN that night. Both of them were belting beautiful music......although one was more in key than the other! My daughter just turned 31 and I've yet to see our National Anthem sung ANY better!

Every morning, before I go to work, I play the video of Whitney's rendition of the National Anthem, with my hand over my heart, watching this beautiful lady put her talent and soul into the song; she seems a little nervous at the first, but then her smile starts to beam. and you can tell she loves the moment.. As she finishes so gloriously, both arms in the air, a tear will slide down my face...I'm an old lady now, but I was 30 when Whitney hit the music world...Lord, I miss her so.
What's truly otherworldly about her voice is the amount of resonance she carries in her mid to upper belts. A lot of people can hit B4s and C5s like nothing, specially her contemporary divas but NONE, let me repeat, NONE have the same amount of full and perfect resonance as Whitney. It's not heady, it's not chesty, it's not throaty, it's not nasal, it's not twangy, it's not muffled, it's truly perfect.
I cannot even imagine how many overtones and undertones she could hit at the same time to sing like that. It's honestly, frightening how NO ONE can do this. I believe that this is absolutely, not just about vocal prowess or training, but rather, something that she was born with. My brain is trying so hard to understand the amount of fullness in her belts, specially those B4 and C5, but every thought appears blank.
Whitney's existence makes no sense. She's not the standard, she's the exception.
Edit: You aren't lying. You aren't. I was trying to think of someone, but nope. The National Anthem sounds like a Whitney song in every sense of the word.

I remember it like it was yesterday. She's been criticized for what she wearing - really? She wasn't there about what she was wearing, she was there to present the National Anthem at it's best and was dressed down in warmups like we all wore in 1991! We miss you Whitney and there will never be a National Anthem like hers!

I’m so happy you did a reaction video for this song. So many people do a first-time-viewed reaction, but you are like me. Even though we’ve seen this (at least 300 times for me) before, my reaction is still like a first-timer. How can you not react to the most beautiful singing in the world? No matter how many times you’ve heard. This still gives me chills and makes me emotional.
I was 10 when Whitney performed this song. I still remember Momma damn near running (like having the Holy Ghost in a Deep South Pentecostal church) saying “Nobody will ever top that” and my father laughing and laughing (because he never had the words for expression) just being mesmerized by what we’d heard.
I’ll be 40 soon, and I still can not get over it.

I remember the day after the Super Bowl, this started being requested on the RADIO, and it BLEW UP or went viral in today’s terms!! It got played over and over and over again and soon thereafter there were tapes being sold at the counter!
Only Whitney could turn a 100 year old song and make it a HIT!!
Btw, there is a video out where a piano guy explains how she and a jazz composer subtly rearranged the song from 3/4 to 4/4 and changed notes to also give it a unique sound and feel without making it too different.

And it's not about this country or the song It is ALL about her. The audience reaction at the end says it all. Absolutely MAGNIFICENT. That climax in “AND THE ROCKETS RED GLARE the bombs bursting in AIRRRRR” shows the power and limitlessness of her voice. People love to say oh she didnt have as large as a range as mariah which is true but she was perfection with what she had. She didnt have to sing in the 6th and 7th octave to be effective her chest voice is where she shined. The clarity and tone was second to none. And how she sang with authority isnt something you cant be taught although im sure cissy got her together with that as she was training, But Whitney will forever be the standard.
