- Trip to the Barron Canyon in Algonquin Park in September of 2016. The Barron Canyon is located on the East side of Algonquin Provincial Park and offers scenery that you cannot find anywhere else in the park. We manage to stop at the hiking trail that is at the top of the Barron Canyon on our drive in. We also make a pit stop at High Falls which has the famous rock water slide and some amazing waterfalls. When we arrived on High Falls Lake we realized that a forest fire had occurred here not long before and we could see the damage from it passing through. Made us feel like ants walking through a normal fire pit.
If you have not yet been to the Barron Canyon, we highly recommend planning a trip. It is one of the best places in Algonquin Park.

Very nice. Love Barron Canyon!
Nice trip and video. Would be nice to see you wear your pfd life jacket when you are in the canoe and not just on the portage.

The first one from grand to Stratton I mean
Looks like a nice route.
Sylvan Dread its a beautiful spot in the park!
Beautifully shot. Brings back memories.
Whose music is that in the background? Very nice.
Really nice video! You did the route in 3 days? You definitely covered some distance by going from Grand Lake to Barron in a day. Right on. I was just out there and the impacts of the 2016 fire on High Falls Lake are still very obvious. Cheers!
Nice video! I just stumbled on your channel. Looking forward to checking out more...
Thanks for watching!
Done the trail a couple of times really want to get my canoe down into the canyon
I would have given you a thumbs up but can't........ PUT YOUR LIFE JACKETS ON!
It's a very good point Russell and I'm glad you brought it up. I have actually invested in a better life jacket this year and I wear it much more often when we are out in the boat now! Safety first!
Great film, thank you. Is that the only way to get to the slide and canoe through canyon? That's a bit too ambitious for me but I always wanted to go there.
I believe there is a way for you to access the canyon from the other side which would be less of a paddle, but I am unsure if there is a place to park. Squirrel Rapids is ringing a bell.
A little late I know but there is a "cheater trail" from just past Brigham parking that is about a 50 minute hike. Otherwise, hike through the backpack trail from achray which is longer or canoe from achray or up from Brigham.
Just found your channel after KC happy campers video on 150 for 150. Subbed!
Brett Smerch thank you for checking it out! Let us know if you ever have any questions :)
hello mate! I'm thinking about doing this loop for Canada Day weekend. Could you tell me when you folks were up there last year? thanks!
Great music, how do I get more !
Nice trip and video. Would be nice to see you wear your life jacket in the boat and not just when you are portaging.
Hey man, this was a great video. Parts of it were almost zen-like. If you have the opportunity, check out Lake Opeongo and Hailstorm Creek. I'd love to see a nice video shot in that area.
Will Definitely take a look! The top of Opeongo has been on our list for some time now! Thanks for watching
Christ the king representing
Looks awesome - how far was the hike into the Barron Canyon trail at the beginning of the video?
Caleb Groen not very far at all! I believe the whole trail is around 1km
AS BEAUTIFUL DREAM
I miss my homeland....native pride!
Awesome vid, thanks for sharing this part of the park, looks amazing! Did you do a loop to get back to Archray campground, what was your return route? Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! It wasn't really too much of a loop but we did try to change it up a bit on our way back. Day 1 we paddled from Achray Campground down to the Barron River and camped at one of the sites that you see just before the river taking you to Ignace Lake. On the way there we took the route that goes through Opalescent Lake. Day 2 we paddled back up this time taking the Cascades and going through Ooze Lake and camped on High Falls lake. Then the final day we paddled out. Only difference was the Cascades vs. Opalescent. Hope that helps!
Super helpful, thanks! Going to try it after the Aug long weekend, mostly using your route.
Does someone know the Exact location 6:27 in the video :)
Go to Achray and you have two options. Hike there on the Eastern Pines Backpacking Trail or paddle in via Stratton Lake. You could canoe up the Barron River from the access road put in but that would be more portaging may not be faster even though it is a shorter distance. To get there by canoe from Achray, paddle south across Grand Lake then head east and portage around the dam into Stratton Lake. Paddle south-east down Stratton almost to the end but don't portage into St. Andrew's Lake. Paddle north up the long skinny bay to the furthest north-east shore. From there it's a about 100 or 200 meters by trail. I haven't been there in years, but I would imagine the trail is well worn and you will find it no problem There will likely be plenty of other people. It's a lot of fun. Was first there in 1975 and back a few times after that including skiing in in winter when the falls and pools are beautiful.
There is a cheater trail on the way to achray from sand lake gate. It's the high falls from Stratton to high falls lake.. Truly heaven on earth.
