The Marry The Night video is actually autobiographical. It begins with her in the hospital after being sexually abused by a person of the label she worked with when she was 19. Then when she goes to her apartment on New York she gets a call in which she is told that she´s fired from the label, and she has a break down. But she doesn´t give up and continues to go to dance classes and stuff until she gets an audition for Interscope Records, which is the label that signed her and then that is when she released The Fame. At the end, with the fire and the red dress, it represents her arrival and success into the music industry and her dream finally coming true.
THANK U OMG THATS BRILLIANT
And it was directed by herself
Marry the Night music video is sooooo underrated.
also in the start of the video she's in the hospital cause she was left pregnant after being sexually assaulted and the fact that we didn't even knew about that up until last year when she talked about it, she's a true artist and this is her most personal video imo
Mary the night is my FAV LADY GAGA SONG OF ALL TIME

Man… I remember these days… when she was the epicenter of pop culture… the judas music video… it’s a real popstar, the visual, the dance, you can see the savagery in her eyes… it was WILD… Since then there is no one so interesting and so entertaining like gaga was in Born This Way Era (not even herself these days😂)
Agreed. I feel like everything has already been done so nothing shocks us anymore
I know most people don’t like The Edge of Glory MV and that’s fair since it had production hell with the OG director got fired. But to me it kind of works in a weirdly beautiful kind of tribute to Clarence (the saxophone player featured in the video and who closes out the song) because he died 48hrs I believe after the video came out and that paired with the lyrics of the song is so beautiful and sad to me.
oh wow that’s powerful, definitely adds another meaning to the video. thank you for sharing. clarence was my favorite part of the video ❤️
When Gaga released Marry the Night and said that she thinks mint will be very big in fashion next spring… it happened 👀
Sorry i didn’t mean to leave Hair out of my ranking! Included the wrong screenshot. For me Hair is between Queen & Edge of Glory. Also wth BTW should be before Black Jesus I’m a MESS
It’s cool… HAIR was a great song but the lyrics were too geared towards children lol imo
If you wanna see more of Jo Calderone (Gaga's male version from Ü&I) watch her performance at the 2011 VMAs! She went as Jo Calderone and stayed in character through the whole event, even going to the mens bathroom lol
Also, try to find the full version (I think it's 7 minutes) because she starts with a cool monologue and there are shots of the other artists being completely shocked by what they were seeing lol
i don’t know if i have tim-*adds to list*
Girl, I followed this era since day one, when she released the BTW music video. I remember coming home from school and going straight to the computer to see if the new MV had dropped and then watching it on loop for days or weeks until she released the next one.
Also, she was EVERYWHERE! There were new performances and interviews every week, incredible looks just to go to the grocery store and don't even get me started on the adventure that was that World Tour!! So many emotions when I remember all of this 😭
Us little monsters used to go on online forums and blogs and discuss every music video, going into details about what she could have meant by that, what she said about it in interviews, what other people said about it... I remember pages and pages of fan theories that tried decoding everything she put on the videos. It was SO MUCH FUNNN
meanings behind the videos because i can’t help but explain them after you’ve said more than once how confusing her videos can be😂
Born This Way: the video was basically about the birth of a new race and where life is to inspire unity and freedom.
Judas: the whole video was basically a biblical metaphor on forgiveness. she portrays Mary Magdalene and the bikers represent the disciples(yes that was norman from the walking dead😂) he portrayed Judas. So in the video she was relating the idea that Mary Magdalene and Jesus still loved Judas even though they knew he was the betrayer. she also wrote the song about how she kept going back to her ex boyfriends.
Marry the Night: the song is about her love for new york. in the beginning of the video she’s in a clinic due to what believe is when she was kept in a studio for months…(The Me You Can’t See, documentary explains that part). her in the apartment with the cheerios, throwing stuff etc was because that same day she was dropped from her first label so that was portraying her mental breakdown. the ending shows her growth and progress to get to where she was at the point hence the writing on her hand at the end “Interscope Records Hollywood CA, 4pm” I believe that was when she was getting signed or her first meeting with them.
Yoü and i: the song is about her relationship with her ex Lüc Carl and how she kept going
back to him. she played both a man who she calls JO CALDERONE and a herself in the same scene, her being the man was her portraying her ex (Lüc Carl). but majority of the video is about “the idea that when you're away from someone you love, it's torture.) She also dressed up as JO during the 2011 MTV VMAS
The Edge of Glory: the song is about your last moments on earth, it was also written after her grandfather passed away. The original concept of the video was scrapped i believe to creative differences with the original director so gaga and the haus of gaga(her creative team) had to step in and direct it themselves. she was also obsessed with cruella de vil so she had like a whole era where she was obsessed with wearing black and white hair for a while
OMG THANK YOU this made my brain connect so many dots and i now am so much less confused 😅
Just adding here that Marry The Night is also about the sexual abuse she had suffered earlier in her career but not even fans would imagine that since she opened about it just like, maybe 2 years ago. We can realize it when she says “I’m gonna be a star, you know why?”… the nurse asks why and then she responds: “because I have nothing left to lose.”
I know this is late but ironically the director for the og Edge of glory video was none other than Joseph Khan aka Taylor's frequent collaborator 🤣
Judas is my favorite Gaga song of all time and I love that it's your favorite from the album! Loved your reaction!
thank you so much!❤️
Marry the Night is her best video in my opinion. When It was released 10+ years ago we didn't know all of the context, other than it was autobiographical and was about the traumatic events surrounding the time she was dropped from Def Jams (her first record label). Over the years she has slowly revealed more and more about her trauma and how it related to her being r*ped when she was 19 by someone she was working with in the label. About a year ago she was on a tv series called "The Me You Can't See", and she revealed more of the story, which is that she unfortunately got pregnant from being r*ped, which is what we assume is alluded to in the scene at the clinic :/ She simply depicts that traumatic time in a way that is easier for her to process. Again, one of her best and possibly one of the best music videos ever.
The videos for this era are sooo on point, they really feel like how you imagine the song. And I also looove the video to The Edge of Glory, I know there were some problems during the production so she had to change the concept but I believe it really fits the song, its just about vibing and enjoying life, even if you are just walking down the street and standing on the stairs
that’s fair! edge of glory video did have 10/10 vibes lol
there weren't any problems during the production, she was just not satisfied for how the project was being handled and the vision the director had, it was just probably being derailed of the essence the song had in gaga's head and focusing so much in futile things that all people thought she was, so she was fed up and cancelled the whole thing and made something that truly matched the essence of it, just her performing with her friend playing sax, honouring your sense of identity and truly cherishing the final moments on earth of your loved ones as he passed away weeks later, that's what the song is all about.
@@inma5665 Yeah, I knew it, thanks. Sorry if I didnt say it as it was
Why am I obsessed on watching people falling in love with Gaga?! ❤❤❤
"I think that Mint will be big in fashion next season" AND IT WAS!
13:39 yes those are her real eyes. her eyes are green💚
amazing. i have green eyes too 💚👄💚
wait, is it hazel or green??? wtf gaga your eyes is gorgeous
TEOG’s music video was about her being 25 and achieving the success she had achieved so she wanted to celebrate that intentionally with just a simple video of her dancing around what looks like streets of New York at night (something very crucial to her career progression) and the colors (her energy, her youth and her ambition) permeating the space.
I understand why you don’t prefer it because I prefer music videos that are more intricate as well but when to comes to Gaga’s videography, it is filled with big productions and complicated interpretations so I find this one very special as straightforwardness is few and far between with her artistry.
ohh that makes sense, thank you for explaining the meaning behind it! ☺️

Fun fact: Rina Sawayama samples the piano song from Marry the Night (at 20:00 in your video) in her song 'Snakeskin'! Idk if somebody already mentioned that - but Rina credits Gaga as one of her biggest inspirations and she even has a gaga meme reference in the mv for 'XS'
yeah!! and love her cover of dance in the dark, that’s how i got into gaga 💕
Born this way mv starting when dancers were sitting, they showed inferior people, insecure people, LGBT ppl, black and all. Then Gaga comes and sits with them and then she stands up with them to show support and that she will try her best to make them stand and she did for LGBT rights
In the Judas video, Gaga portrays the story of Judas' betrayal against Jesus and Judas' kiss, the ultimate symbol of betrayal (Judas told the Roman guards that whoever he kissed on the face would be Jesus), then the allusion of the lipstick on the gun, which is passed into Judas' mouth, and the kiss gains power from a shot. Gaga plays Mary Magdalene, Jesus' supposed lover. She washes their feet as a sign of when Jesus washed the apostles' feet before the Holy Supper.
OHHHHDJDJDJ THAT MAKES SENSE THANK U
The edge of glory is one of her simplest music vids. She had great ideas in her mind but then saxophone player died so she just wanted to give tribute to him. Still vid meant last moments before death. And she sits with saxophpne player who was wearing all black which showed death
This video made my day your reactions are amazing 😭
thank you so much🥺🥺🥺
The video portrays them as modern day missionaries going to Jerusalem. It included the Biblical story of Judas betraying Jesus, and ended with Gaga as Magdalene getting stoned to death.
I get so excited when I see u post a new gaga reaction omggg🤣
Really ? I was about to sleep lol but down for watching u ❤️ I’m so excited for this
The Edge of Glory MV was not suposed to be that one, they had some problems with the original one, and that was kinda last minute video. That's why it feels so different from the other ones.
ohh thanks for explaining that makes so much sense!
@@BethThereseReacts The original idea had her as a mermaid being carried through a hospital in a wheelchair while people chased after her.
I have no idea of what this would mean, but I wish I could watch it haha
@@erikperhs_ dang i wish i could see that too haha
Watch Gaga do JUDAS on Ellen… she sang every word…while dancing like this🔥🔥🔥😱😱😱
I'm not an expert on bible stories, but the Judas music video is supposed to tell the story about Mary Magdalene (Gaga) having a relationship with Jesus (the guy with the golden spike crown), and how she cheated on him (?) with Judas (Norman Reedus aka the guy from TWD), everything told like a modern-rider-artsy version. For her betrayal, she got stoned to death at the end
Her music videos have many informations behind but you are right too, just take them as entertainment also works, love your videos, very chilling ❤️❤️❤️
Im in a very bad period of my life right now but OMG! Your reaction to Born This Way music video just made me laugh so hard!😂😂😂 you made my day so thank you for that.❤ 🥳🙏🏻 and sorry if my english is awful.
Oh wow, Bloody Mary in your top 3? We just love how Beth continues to exhibit TASTE
Beth you kill me I love it
First four videos full of plot…”I GET NONE OF THIS!!!!”
Edge of Glory….” Um I need plot”
Obsessed with you ❤️❤️❤️
HAHAHA EXPOSED
The intro “manifesto of mother monster” explained everything you needed to know about Born This Way’s music video lol it isn’t that difficult
it's nice to see that people not only react to album but to music videos as well. You wish you could be there when this all happend.
The fact that Bloody Mary didn't get a music video is still a crime to me
And the Born This Way video, to explain everything i´d need to do like a document of 50 pages. But i´ll do my best.
The video begins with a unicorn's silhouette, inside an inverted pink triangle. Back on World War II, this triangle was used as badge required to be worn by the homosexual men in Nazi concentration camps. Within the triangle, there is a city skyline, a nod to Metropolis, a movie about a futuristic dystopia in which there is a split between two social classes and an android named Maria (a copy of a real-life girl) is used to incite a revolt among the worker classes. Which is a comparison to Gaga´s career and activism, a powerful and influential woman who fought for the rights of the minorities.
The unicorn was popularized during the medieval age through a story about a unicorn who was tamed by a virgin maiden; the unicorn became a symbol for the relationship between Virgin Mary and Christ, pure love and immaculate conception. It is also a symbol for strength in the gay community. The triangle transitions to a shot of Gaga, with two opposite facing heads, inspired by Janus, the Roman god of transition and beginnings, sitting in an ornate glass throne amidst a star-filled space.
Also, her hair is also shaped like a Pope hat. She's a God and the stars are shaped like a uterus. A slight rainbow of gay pride emits underneath Gaga as she spreads her arms in the shape of her glowing womb. Alternately, Gaga is also signaling her role as the "Mother" through some crucifixion imagery, likely in the vein of painter Francis Bacon.
Then, there are a lot of reference to Gaga´s biggest inspirations; Madonna, Michael Jackson and Bowie. The heads with the makeup for Bowie, the third eye on the chin, the teeth gap, suit and dance style for Madonna, and at the end, Gaga's silhouette struts in an alley in a tribute to Michael Jackson's music video "The Way You Make Me Feel".
There are probabbly things i missed but that is it for the most part.
Your dancing and editing and life I stan

You need to check out her 2011 VMAs performance! Its amazing and thanks for your reaction videos to Gaga, we love you.
You have to react to mtv vmas 2011 performance. that was iconic one. Actually in 2010, when gaga stormed the world by wearing meat dress on vmas, everyone was excited who she will top this outfit. Every celebrity in 2011 vmas , tried gaga outfits like katy, kesha , Nicki and many more. But at the end, gaga came as a joe Calderon. Again, she took over the world. Everyone was soo shocked and talking about her. She even flirted with Britney Spears on stage.

Her music videos, masterp pieces
I Love all the songs on this album😍❤
I love your reaction < 3
Hi Beth my queen!! I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this, but the dancer in the Marry the Night video who is in the pink traditional ballet outfit, her name is Dina and she was with Gaga from the BEGINNING, back when Gaga only had 2 women backup dancers. There was a falling out that was noticed but Gaga never really addressed it, but they were able to reconnect and fix things, so that is why Dina has the scene where's helping Gaga get up from her fall. Marry The Night is such a gorgeous work of art
Love your Gaga reactions!! But like MTN is autobiographical about her rise to fame and the struggles in between, like being dropped from def jam which is the mental breakdown scene with the cheerios. Some videos are going to take multiples listens to understand once you know the background story. She does have some comical aspects to her art but that’s not what it is intended to be interpreted as. Her videos this era were serious stories that mostly need more than one view to understand the intention!
Oh how im wish you were around during the proper Gaga daily days. It explained everything! Bless you trying to understand but the marry the night video is slightly more literal than you think.
Sorry I’m late I can’t wait for these reactions
For me the video for BORN THIS WAY will always be the best in my opinion because the video shows the creation of good and evil and the lyrics just have a special place in my heart. This song makes me go crazy and makes me so happy. The album and song are just timeless for me. The anniversary for BTW was yesterday.
Gaga actually directed the music video for Marry The Night herself!
The original "The Edge of Glory" video was supposed to show Gaga as a mermaid, in a hospital and in a wedding dress on a Brooklyn Bridge. The concept didn't work out so she used those ideas in the following videos - the wedding dress/mermaid - You & I, hospital scenes - Marry The Night :)
TEOG Gaga had a concept but during filming she had problems with the director and said "fuck it lets just film me walking in the street 5 times and wrap it all up" she said this during the joanne world tour
The funniest thing is you describing born this way video 😂😂
Marry the night mv is still my favorite thing GAGA has ever done
ICONIC
I’m still forever upset about what happened to TEOG music video 😭 The original concept was supposed to be this grand mermaid themed video. Something about her as a ‘fish dressed in nothing but Versace’ under the Brooklyn bridge in NY who falls in love with a human and gets operated on to try to become a human. Casting calls for ‘couture doctors,’ military men with rifles, an on-air reporter, and a Latino love interest were put out. Huge sets and props were built for an underwater scene, a hospital set, a mountain cliff set, and the NYC set featured in the video we got. But Gaga and the director, who was Joseph Khan, got into an argument on set because she decided to just switch it up at the last minute and film just the fire escape scene and due to creative differences she fired him. So she had to shoot something to put out the video asap, and she just shot on that fire escape and NYC street scene with Clarence, the saxophone player.
She ended up using some of the original music video ideas in later projects. She performed TEOG as a mermaid live on French show ‘Le Grand Journal’ and got her tail ‘surgically’ removed by ‘surgeons’.’ She reused some of the mermaid idea for Yoü and I in the video and a live performance where she was a mermaid in a wheelchair on stage. And she performed TEOG on American Idol on a huge ‘mountain cliff’ set that was apparently made for the video.
In the BTW music video gaga has make up but for the guy it was his real tattoos. He was called Zombie Boy.
And in the Yoü and I music video it was her ex fiance.
Born This Way is absolutely gourmet. I love that analogy lmao
When she liked the video, I liked this video 😭❤️
😭
love this album
You and I probably showed her abusive boyfriend but she still loves him and wont leave him. She showed herself as a doll that he keeps on playing. He tortures her when he wants and gets physical when he wants to

It was BTW, Judas, TEOG, Yoü And I, and them MTN but no biggie :)
I'll list the order of her other eras if you wanna use it:
The Fame - Just Dance, BDR, Poker Face, Eh Eh, LoveGame, Paparazzi
TFM - Bad Romance, Telephone, Alejandro
ARTPOP - Applause, G.U.Y. (only 2 videos😭😭)
Joanne - Perfect Illusion, Million Reasons, John Wayne, Joanne Piano Version (the first 3 continue each other so it's important)
Chromatica - Stupid Love, ROM, 911
aw shoot lol but thank you so much! i already did chromatica & the fame/FM but that’ll be so helpful for artpop & joanne!😊

The skeleton man from born this way was actually tattooed like that, sadly he passed away 💔
There's a plot in You & I MV, at forst gaga play role as yuyi the mermaid and then the man found and fell in love with her, he try everything he can to change gaga into human that's why you could see them in some sort of laboratory in cornfield in the countryside. You see gaga from mermaid gradually changing into human (the one you said she looks like a doll actually the end product) i guess she still couldn't walk an need much water (the shot where she is in the tank) cause the transition from mermaid to human. After all of that, they're married. I don't know about the guy but it's seems he is already dead and gaga become a bionic/half robot cause she did't find her love anymore (she is heartless now), that's why she moves like robot in the early minutes on MV. She want to see him again (going back to nebraska the countryside with cornfield to find him or maybe get back to her memories).... "It's been ling time since you came around, been a long time but i'm back in town, this time i'm not leavin' without you".
And yes so many details in her music videos that could be misteries
Anyway, glad you enjoy MV's like little monster did!
For born this way the skeletons parts there is only gaga wearing makeup. The guy is Rick Genest his entire body is covered with tattoos so thats really him without makeup. He is from Montréal, Canada and sadly he passed away few years ago...
The guy with the "skull makeup" isnt makeup. Its all a tattoo. Its skeleton boy. Who sadly had passed away
