Holy crap, James’s voice is like melted gold right now
Its been doctored with. The original sounds much worse

*James* : and ill take my time
*Rob* (furiously): *ANYWHERE*
Man, James Hetfield’s voice is gold!!!
Yeah, but I like the studio versions much better. I know it’s hard to create the sound of a studio on a life show, but he’s not that great live. It just doesn’t give me the feeling I get when I play this on my speakers.
Right. He has dynamic range, and really strong vocals. Wow!
@@smalllebowski7720 I mean you can do perfect vocals in the studio so obviously it's better

The snare sounds like the black album snare!
Yes !
Sounds like a black album trigger... Prolly a smart move if they needed an easy mix for the radio.
Hell yeah🤘🏻
Was about to say how good the snare sounds
Shame he can't play in time

Glad to see James took good care of himself these past months, the whole band sounds better with a healthy Hetfield at the helm!
Yeah!!!!
Can you post the full concert from Bucharest 2019 please!
He sounds like crap tbh. Completely lost the power in his voice...

Carlos Salvador you’re not alone brother, it’s gonna be alright, I bet! stay strong
The snare sounds exactly the same as on the album, and James sounds pretty good and gritty considering how early they got up to perform on the show
And the crash trigger effect
He should thank Steven Slate for re-doing the work Bob Rock originally did. Hey Big Mick, fire up SSD5 and select BlackKit, before you fooking leave the board! Now if only there was a Newsted plugin for Robs voice.
Damn I didn't know daron's fedora could talk
The snare is definitely triggered... Not a bad thing, makes the mix work easy

Am I the only one who's loving Kirk's new singing confidence? Sounds great!
You can bearly hear him but yes
Doesnt come close to Newsted Im afraid
He only had 30 years to practice.

my favourite thing is how the microphone always seems too high for him

I love how I comment I see this comment everywhere lol. 🤫😉😂
It decided to roam
the part where kirk throws his pick by accident
James sounds amazing.
Trujillo good voice! 😯
Kirk solid guitarist
Lars timing...................omg.
Everybody is talking about James vocals, but they didn't noticed Robert's backing vocals are Awesome!!
Kirk and Robert's mics are usually low in concert videos, but in the actual live concert their backing vocals sound great. I've been in a Metallica and it's the best day ever.
Indeed! But some are whining: "I like Jason!" We 1st saw em w Cliff '86♡ I later got sick of the 'Jason sux' crap, told some ppl to shut up, not venture past Master Puppets. Some ppl are idiots. Refuse to let it be, just enjoy the music.
@@tonioshea9870 exactly.
"Metallica isn't what they used to be!" Well just like the rest of us! We change over time, we grow.
@@ermonski Exactly. I saw comments that criticized or dismissed Kirk, too, wth? As if the band exists to meet their specific needs. Metallica's contribution to rock is beyond criticism, except to the foolish & my Mama didn't raise a fool.😉 but she raised a rock fan. In rural Alabama there's a point in time when country should replace rock, lol, I'm a lost cause. Thank god.
Robert is a beast🤟
James lost a shit ton of weight since S&M II, dammmm
Lol no more beer belly
Maybe he gave it to Lars instead
He went to rehab probably for alcohol.
I know right he's not as skinny as he was in the 80s but he's looking good
Chad Mithoff i wouldn’t doubt it. probably not the best move by metallica to sell their own whiskey and beer while having a member that used to be an alcoholic
This is probably the best performance I’ve ever seen of this song!! Welcome back James!
Watch san diego from the shit bing and purge.. 1992... think thats better... and faster
you're playing with yourself as well ... 😁
This is for me one of those perfect songs. The perfect blend of darkness and that heavenly chord change in the bridge balancing things out. Criminally underrated. Had this been by some other band forever held dear by listicles, it would be far more celebrated
This one, Harvester of Sorrow and for me King Nothing also ok :)
Wherever i may roam, by the eagles
I couldn't agree more with every word u said
Whereever I may Roam, from the Black Album - Criminally underrated..............
Lars playing so good, James singing better than ever, Kirk playing the solo like the black era, rob awesome backing vocals, the snare sound, the guitar tone and the mix sounding like classic Metallica, best performance in decades
You've said exactly what I came here to say too. You know things are going good in the band when happy Kirk is nailing solos, James is just riffing effortlessly, Lars is not being a power-mad Dane on the kit and just working it and Rob is happily pushing the rhythm and fitting everything together. That's Team M right there. Isnt it so nice to see them perform like this?
Jay Zed's Guide to Things n Stuff I loved that team M thing, perfectly describes the vives in the band on these videos nowadays. Hopefully they keep this so fucking good in the future 🤘
Agreeed! No rust at all here, sounded identical to the album, friggin awesome!
People talk a lot of shit, but they're one of the greatest bands of all time.
please, for fucks sake, I love Metallica but they slowed the song to a level that it's painful to listen.
James voice is sounding better. Maybe the rest was good for him
Truee, reminded me of the San Diego concert
@@MetaITurtle elaborate
I heard the original. It was much worse. James missed the notes.
@@gamelight6107 he hasn't been singing for a long time. He will get better I guess
@@sudebuttrue4256 how awful is Lars in this though?
Damn James looks like a cool grandpa/dad.
This mix is so tight. Drums sound great, James' vocals are great, bass is there, and guitars are perfect as always.
I just watched all the uploads from this show and:
-James, if there is the slightest chance you read this, keep healthy, be happy! We need you now, more than ever! This is the best you've looked in a long time ( my opinion) and you've sounded perfeclty, considering the time you guys played and considering this was the first song you played.
-Even though they played slower, I don't think it sounds bad. It's normal that they need to get back in shape.
-I think Lars, Kirk and Rob sounded good as well. But of course, there will be a couple of "experts" that expect them to play like robots.
Anyways, I'm happy the guys are back healthy and happy, and who knows, maybe even recording a new album :))
True words David, thanks for sharing your opinion
If they release just one more album i think i can die in peace.
where did you watch them?
WE need them now more than ever? His FAMILY needs him. I want him to be healthy for himself and his family first.
Before they retire they should do unforgiven 4 and after that i can die in peace
5:55 "Wherever my pick roam" awesome song🤘🏻🤘🏻
Kirk: wtf
Man, James has worked hard on his vocals and it shows. I remember hearing live stuff from the early to mid 00's and dude just sounded kinda blown out after years of screaming in every town he stopped in. I don't know what he's done since then. Its not like he sounds like he did in the eighties/early nineties, but he does sound like he is in control of his pitch and it sounds like he is putting that vocal energy right where he wants it to be. This is a lot of words I'm using to say that he sounds good at any rate. I'm just glad to see these guys still giving a shit and putting everything in to it after all of these years. I love Metallica!
Wisdom comes with age.... He's being smart about using what he has.... Which is fucking great!
6:46 random "huaaahh" From James sounds soo fricking amazing 🔥❤🔥
The harmony between James and Kirk at 2:27 is perfect.
That snare sounds great!
ikr
Best sounding snare in metallica for 25 years
😂
Probably had the signature 3mm steel just sitting there but was too arrogant to use it
Everything sounds awesome .. that bass
@@olivuuuur it reminded me of the actually album sound!
James seems to have so much vocal control at this point...he can hit every note, every bit of grit, vary his volume and output and just hit it dead on. Kirk just keeps killin it...Metallica just trending in 2020...frickin amazing.
This is way better than the studio version of this song. James' voice is getting bigger and better - makes this song even better - Love it!
Me: about to finally go to sleep

Holy shit this this one of the best performances I've heard in a while. James' voice is as good as ever, Rob's backing vocals have improved so much, Lars looks like he's having fun, Kirk is consistent as usual and of course the insanely good mix. Can't wait for their new album!
Spongebob once said "old people are the greatest they're full of wisdom and experience"
Howard: "yeah I play with myself."
drum tone is one of the biggest factors of their huge success. i still don't understand how the snare and kick sounds are so magnificent.
They all sound really good. The solo was incredible.
Bit weird they’re performing a song that’s basically about travelling freely when no one’s been able to go anywhere and/or do anything these last couple of months until recently 😂
I think thats exactly why they played it.
my body lies but still I roam
The black album got me into metal. Had the tape at 4 years old.
The “Let’s Go!” At 4:27 Reminded me a lot of Lemmy.
It really sounded like Lemmy
Son los mejores
The song is a bit slower, and lars put some fills, but damn,it's good to see the boys again
Its like the album version chill out.
@@chivAvatar14 no..
@@robertoordinolaleon7488 stfu
It's the tempo of the Black Album version
slowing down the tempo of the song can be (and is here) an artistic choice. It's not like Lars can't keep up with middle paced song. He has lots of flaws in his drumming, but i wouldn't call speed one of them.
James is the only member that keeps getting better in spite of all the years he passed through
Disagree, for the first time ever i have just noticed a struggle. Dont get me wrong he sounds good but sadly its downhill from here
Steven Rolston yea cse everyone gets older. But for a band that performing nearly 40years is a big achievement. Appreciate them while they are still around.

On of the best lines of all time "AND THE EARTH BECOMES MY THRONE"
Everyone realize, you're living in the time when people will say remember when "xxxxxx" was around playing live still, that was a hell of a time. Pink floyd, stones, zeppelin, beatles. This is one of those bands, and they're still here. Enjoy it
Next year the " Black album " will be 30 years old.
And the drummer still hasn't learnt the songs
@@harrr53 If that's what you think then why not go tell Lars Ulrich that yourself? I'm sure he would disagree with you since he's been playing for 40 years.
@@oldschool250 Why on earth would I do that? Why should Lars even give a shit about my opinion? I've been playing for 20 years and I suck. Some performers are very gifted and the rest of us struggle. That's just how it is. There's fortunately much more to music than performing skill of course.
Oh shit, I'm old
I remember buying it the day it came out... that settles it, I’m old.
James sining like old James. The small blessing in no concerts is that he can go all out without having to preserve.
THEY ARE GREAT NO MATTER AGE, TIME OR CONDITION. SIMPLE AS THAT.
Gives me chills and brings me down memory lane. Such a legendary band!🤟🏻
These guys influenced me as a teenager in the 90's to be a wild badass, now I'm a grandfather of 3 children but I still crank this shit and it brings back memories of my youth. Thank you METALLICA! Saw you live in concert in 1994 Mansfield Massachusetts 🤙👍

Rob kills it every time bass always sounds so good
These Howard Stern Show Lives sessions NEVER fail, it's amazing, they play , sound so friggin well, and James voice is SO on point, what a pleasure for the ears
Everything sounds fenomenal wow
1. Yes, the tempo is closer to the album version because it's early and they don't have thousands of fans charging them up.
2. Kirk nailed the solos in this take. A rare thing for him nowadays.
3. This is the best recorded drum sound Lars has had in decades. Especially the snare.
4. James' voice sounds good. Not early 90's good but better than it's been in recent years. Perhaps the time in treatment helped.
5. Overall this is the best they've sounded in a long time. Every time I think to myself "Okay, they're done. They're just too old now." They come out with something like this and prove they still have a little bit left in the tank.
(edit) 6. Rob is an incredibly talented bassist but whenever he steps up to a microphone it makes me miss Jason.
That is all. Carry on.
Funking hell what is wrong with you to do into that much detail, half of what you said is complete bollocks. You're telling me they've been terrible for the past 4 years? Since hardwired they've been incredible. S&M2 was great. If that isn't good enough for you find another metal band
@@jord9261 Lol, I agree with him, everything he said is on point. So what is wrong with YOU ? Chill out
@@jord9261 Where did I say anything about terrible? In summary I said that this performance sounded better than anything else they have done in the past few years. You are inferring the terrible part. What if I said it like this? The bands performances of late have all been rated a nine. This performance is rated a ten. Would that make you feel better?
Y’all have to remember they’re in they’re fucking 60s AND STOP CRYING ABOUT JASON
They have ALOT left in the tank. Not a little bit. They get better with age. They wont retire anytime soon. Love my Metallica.

I am very thankful that i live in a universe where Metallica exist
James looking as young as 2016. I'm excited how he will sound when he isn't tired af. Good to hear Kirk's backup vocals
They're pushing 60. They need to scale back the touring. I can't imagine the grind is good for anybody's health at this point.
Cool shirt James go yeti!
If Kirk can keep his playing up like this, then I am pretty hyped for their next album 🤘
He seems to have taken advantage of the quarantine time to go back to practicing scales
i wish there will be good long guitar solos in new album
Well I think this is the first time I’ve ever heard them play this with the albums tempo. I think usually they speed things up and that causes him to screw up some parts. This sounds great
