Watching this 18yrs later as an adult made me see how absolutely terrible MTV was at editing a television show.
I think they did a fantastic job. This was probably why lightly scripted tv shows took off. They really caught the experience of being in high school at that time and place. So talented. Its amazing how no one in the entertainment business has any talent any more.

Alex was a bitch. She REALLY did not like Jessica and it didn't have anything to do with the Jason situation, it was because Jessica was considered to be 'poor' by Laguna standards and 'not good enough' to hang around with the likes of Alex because she didn't have the money/status in the area that the likes of Alex's parents did. The Jason situation was just an excuse to attack and try to convince others to totally blacklist Jessica from their social circles. Thing is, Alex/Jason hooked up one time and that was it. She DESPERATELY wanted to be in a relationship with Jason but he was not interested in her and went back to Jessica again and she was PISSED.
Good news is though, their lives are TOTALLY different. Jessica is happily married with four kids whilst Alex, who wanted to be a 'pop star' is doing gigs in local dive bars whilst hooking up with different men every weekend. So in the end, Jessica won.
I can't believe I was such a loser watching this. Lol.

I’m a 90s kid through and through but I wish I’d appreciated the 2000s more at the time. I was in 8th grade when the year 2000 rolled around and had no idea what a beautiful hot mess it would be. Looking back it was such a magical time with social media starting, CZcams in it’s OG era, texting becoming a thing, razor phones, digital music starting, the ridiculous fashion trends, reality tv being new, and all that.

Heidi wasn’t on Laguna Beach because she wasn’t from there. She was from Colorado. She was LC’s friend and LC introduced her to everyone and then she obviously later joined The Hills, where she got her fame. I think this was the first time she was ever on the show and we saw her.

Dieter was seriously the best of the guys on there. It was sweet how he tried to keep LC from crying over Jason and then him going to confront him. Sad most of the girls on the show never really saw him as more than the nice friend because he was the 'hot one'

Watching this show again it’s a complete different story from what I remember: Lauren needed a real friend to tell her to stop letting Stephen play her, Kristen was nagging 24/7 (but I was a teenager too, I was also self absorbed lol), Stephen was the WORST.. he played 2 girls against each other and was careless of their feelings, Jessica is the next worst one after Stephen, Alex is a hard 3rd place after Jessica. Dieter was so nice, Trey was such a cool guy in the best way possible, Talan wanted to have his cake and eat it too but he was not even close to be as bad as Stephen, I almost forgot Awful Jason.. He and Stephen can share that #1 spot.
