  • Fascinating history and decay in the world's first penitentiary - Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia, PA. Built in 1829, the prison was a model for hundreds of prisons around the world, and operated until 1971. It was then abandoned for 20 years before efforts began to save it as a historic site. Tours are available year-round to see restored sections of the prison, as well as some of the decay that occurs after abandonment and aging. Some fascinating history here, and next week we will have a look at the prison's famous Halloween attraction - "Terror Behind The Walls."

I've heard a lot about this place. Can't believe how scary it is at night! Very interesting about baseballs coming back! We went to Alcatraz and that was interesting too.
    Thanks for sharing!

It is a fascinating place, and seeing some of it semi-restored and other parts in their abandoned state is very cool. So much history. I love Alcatraz! Haven't been there in many years, but you are right - it is very interesting.

Very interesting video! That’s so scary about the baseballs coming back! And those chairs on the field have held up so nicely, lol!! Great ending! Thanks for sharing! :)

OK this was creepy and interesting. I think the weirdest part was the gargoyles on the outside.

Yeah - those gargoyles set the tone out front. Really interesting history here.

This was such a fun day! Loved all the alternate historical facts, lol. And I said the same line about dropping the soap on my video, lol!!! Also thought the same thing about Tim Tracker when I saw that bag. Great minds?? ;) Loved how this turned out. Can't wait to see what you got for next week! :)

It was a great day, indeed! Lot of fun, and interesting, too. Will cobble together everything I can for Terror.

Very cool guys! It reminded me of something I'd see in the Pirates movies.

Fascinating history there. It's darn near as old as the pirates of the colonies era. Impressive that it was open 140+ years!

I went there this summer! I didn't get to see the hospital wing, so that was cool to see. I also didn't get to read everything (hungry kids were hungry), so I didn't get to see what the dog was in for and I had forgotten to look it up, so thanks for that! And, random fact: Al Capone's cell is a gym in Pokemon Go, and one of my guys was in there for like five days, haha.

Ha! That's pretty funny that Capone's cell is a Pokemon gym.
It was really cool seeing the mix of restoration and decay there. I wouldn't mind going back.

I want to go back just to finish reading everything!

I wish we'd had more time to see the extras like the mini tour we had of the hospital. They have several more of those that are short 10-15 minute tours of certain sections. Was pretty interesting.

You know an attraction is worth doing when two separate trips with two separate groups of people not only liked it, but want to go back to learn even more. It was fascinating. I mean, even my kids liked it for the time we were there, and they're tough to please. :)

Interesting fact: Tina Turner’s One of the Living Video was shot where you were standing at 5:44: czcams.com/video/RP39e1YJB9U/video.html

Totally forgot about that! I remember the Dead Milkmen video shot there, but forgot about Tina's. Good call.
