    Interesting video.
    Personally, I use a pressurized filter and the crema of my coffees does not look at all like the one in the video.
    It is much thicker and bubble-free.
    And even with a pressurized filter, using pre-ground coffee will never give you the same results as freshly ground coffee. It's obvious.

    Umm, where's the rest of the coffee? That's not a 30ml shot and you can travel all across Europe visiting 10000 cafes and never receive such a small shot. This is some Montreal type shot and I guarantee that pressurized or non-pressurized it's going to taste terrible.

    Delonghi has upgraded their pressurized portafilter. It does not look like the one in the vid. Its got a spring inside and a valve. The ones shown in the vid with mesh and one single hole out the bottom is an old design that makes fake crema because it sprays out that one hole. The new designs dont spray out. They have a spring loaded valve and make much better crema because there is no spraying out a tiny hole causing aeration.

      @od1286  Před 3 lety

      @serghei toca :Hi there, it could be that the extraction time is too short not allowing the oils from the beans to be realeased or maybe due to not enough coffee in the basket. You could try to use between 16 to 18 grams of coffee for a double basket, grind it thinner, adjust the water temperature to medium, strongly tamp and use as fresh as possible beans. The extraction should take between 25 to 35 seconds for 2oz of espresso. Hope it helps!

    We share almost the same setup: E685, Graef 702 (I have 802), and same unpressurized portafilter but I can't get good results so always using the pressurized one cause is easier (and not happy neither).
    On pressurized I have to grind at nº 10, if I do less the Dedica chokes and gives no liquid at all having to stop and throw away the basket.
    On unpressurized, at 8, seems very very fine like flour but still the crema is weak, taste acidic and the extraction time isn't between 20-28... taste ain't nice at all. If I do coarsed than nº 8 grind, I get an underextracted coffee tasting horrible and if I do finer the dedica chokes again.
    Both with always around 14 grams of coffee, despite trying 16 and even 18. Haven't tried fresh beans yet (couple of lavazza's oro and supercrema from amazon with maybe 3/4 months since roasted and once 100 grams from a coffee bar they grinded for me as espresso fine grind but still did super bad).... I know I have to try fresh beans but till now very frustrated in the process.
    BTW, on second take you get 23 seconds of extraction (a dream to me). Do you just pull the double shot without caring about the ratio and never stopped before for an X amount of liquid? and how many grams you get best results with double shot? nice videos and keep going!

    • @od1286
      @od1286  Před 3 lety +4

      Hi Uri, in the beginning we also had the same problems, in that time we used lavazza (Crema e Gusto and Rosa) and Starbucks Breakfast blend...we didn’t get crema and sometimes we also tried to add more than 20 grams of coffee and the machine choked; so we decided to use fresh beans, grind them using the finest setting and use between 16 to 20 grams of coffee and finally we got better results (this has to be adjusted depending on the beans).
      Before we had the Saeco Poemia, that machine could take any type of coffee and give good results but with the Dedica we really need to work to get crema. We found out that there are a few factors that play a role, like fresh coffee, tamping, water temperature and grinding setting. Hope with time you can achieve the results you want. Wish you all the best.

      Yes it would taste better but not by much espresso in a non pressurised basket usually requires a very fine grind and pre ground coffee is usually quite coarse and to be used with french press pour over moka pot etc but not for espresso but with pressurised baskets grind size is not critical and most times you can get away with pre ground coffee hope this helps

    Hello! I have the exact same setup. I purchased an unpressurized basket, but I find that it tastes worse than the original basket... it brings out the unpleasant coffee flavors somehow, this strange dry mouthfeel, and the coffee doesn't even taste close to the smell of the freshly ground beans. It's a medium dark decaf in buying from a local roaster. I'm experimenting with grind settings and coffee quantities, but not much luck so far. It feels overextracted I think. The best so far was with grind setting 10 and 14 grams of coffee. I tried with 1&16 grams like you suggested in one of your comments, but it wasn't as good. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?

      @Mansour Baouadi : Hi there, for the crema you could try to use between 16 to 18 grams of coffee for a double basket, grind it thinner, adjust the water temperature to medium or high depending your coffee , strongly tamp and use as fresh as possible beans. The extraction should take between 25 to 35 seconds for 2oz of espresso.

      @@od1286 thanks for the answer i tryed what you adviced me and indeed i have a much better crema and richer taste maybe a little bit too strong. When you say fresh bean what you mean ? I actually grind my beans with my grinder, maybe you advice me to buy some freshly roasted bean to have a better results?? Mmh interesting. By the way the filter that i have with the portfilter is to deep, in my opinion this is made for double espresso. In my opinion i have to buy a 51 mm filter les deep made for espresso. But there is a last issue with this dedica, this is the time of extraction for espresso which is too fast almost 15 second, and as you know 20 is the minimum to get the best taste, what do you advice me to have a longer extraction than 15 sec for espresso, push one more time a few more second to have a total of minimum 20 sec for an espresso? How do you get your crema to look so nice? I just got a non pressurised filter and my crema keeps coming out very light in colour which I understand is a sign of an underextracted shot. I don't have a grinder but I'm using coffee that was grinded in the roastery today. I've asked them to do a "standard" espresso grind for one bag and a slightly coarser one for another, but neither seem to come out nicely.

      @fpl Hi there, for the non pressurized portafilter you can try grinding finer, we grind our coffee using the finest setting and tamp strongly. If you get a chance, we would suggest you to get your own burr grinder and grind your beans daily, that way you can adjust the fineness and dial your machine until you get the results that you want, plus you will have freshly ground coffee every day 😉 We suggest you to use beans not older than two weeks old.
