For those dealing with Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS, peppermint can be a promising remedy. In my clinical practice I have found it to be gentle, very well tolerated and effective for the right patient. Peppermint leaf acts as a soothing agent for the digestive tract and can help with digestive cramping and spasms, excessive gas production, bloating and abdominal pain.
It is also a moderate antimicrobial and can target different bacteria including E. coli and Salmonella. While most people have at least tried peppermint tea as an infusion, the real potency lies in peppermint oil and alcoholic extracts from the whole leaf.
A word of caution: individuals with reflux or heartburn may experience exacerbated symptoms due to peppermint's impact on sphincter tone. Despite this, for the majority, peppermint remains a widely available, well-tolerated herbal ally for my patients with IBS.

Hi! I have a question about antimicrobials and building resistance, for example, if I took allicin for 1 course, and it helped, am I ever able to use it again or not, due to resistance? If I can when should I reuse the antimicrobials, would be very happy for a response :)

Can you tell me why an OAT is better for detecting fungal issues than a standard microbiome test? I've heard responses along the lines of "Fungus/Yeast does not typically survive the time it takes to analyze the sample. This is why urinary metabolites are best."...
Yup, that's a tough one! As far as I've been able to make it out is due to the sampling area. For stool tests you are sampling the large bowel and would miss fungal overgrowths in the small bowel almost every time. Culturing can pick it up more reliably but then you don't get an idea on how severe it is. OAT testing like the great plains will give you many markers on active fungal overgrowth PLUS all the downstream issues like oxalates, metabolism, detox and nutrient deficiency issues too. It really tells a bigger story which is key for chronically unwell patients
Looking for a bitter orange since you feel it’s one of your favorites for a prokinetic for severe Cibo which I have as well as IBS C. I see several on the market that I can purchase but I have no idea which one would be best can you make a recommendation please. Thank you

Thanks for talking about the difference in extract vs. oil. I was going to get clove extract or oil based on your previous video, but wasn't sure why the extract was as expensive, and if it could be as useful as the oil.

Even tea with peppermint will cause major reflux for me (killing off yeast has almost gotten rid of reflux completely, but peppermint still makes it go nuts)

yes! great feedback. The peppermint piece lowers the LES (sphincter tone) which can be hard to resolve in some. I'm putting together a video on that as a root cause treatment for reflux. Treating overgrowths like yeast is big so I'm glad that was helpful!
Is there an antimicrobial for parasites that does not cause a die-off

Can you explain why the Tincture will not kill the Migrating motor complex vs the enteric coated oil capsules do kill or slow motility. Would love to take more Peppermint but don't want to slow down my motility. Thanks
Hmmm I never knew that the Oil slows down motility, Did he say that in the video I must’ve missed it?
@@lindapelle8738No he doesn't say it in this video. I forgot where I heard it. I asked him about it in another video and he confirmed the oil capsules do but the ti ctures wouldn't... That's why asked him why the Tincture supposedly does not slow down motility. It's too bad about the capsules because they do help a lot.
Great discussion! This would very much be case by case. Clinically I've seen the tincture be well tolerated and not slow things down for the vast majority of patients. I suspect this is due to the dose - much less volatile oils vs the straight peppermint oil. If a patient was seeing improvements in symptoms like you are with the oil I would recommend keeping it up unless they saw a slowing of motility. Hope that helps!

I haven’t seen peppermint leaf cause constipation yet. Has this been your experience?
