Hello everyone, my name is Tim and I am one of the product specialists here at SpyCentre Security. Thee Spy Gear Superstore. And I'm here to talk to you guys about Counter Surveillance.
This guide will help make sense of what Bug Detectors actually are and how they work. I will also go over the reasons why there are so many and how they are not created equal.
A bug detector is a general term about a device that will help locate something that may be spying on you. This could be a microphone that listens in, a camera that views your every move, or even a GPS tracker that could be tracking your vehicle.
There are many forms of Counter Surveillance. You have RF detectors, Camera Lens Finders, White Noise generators, and Signal Blocking Bags as the main different types. I am going to talk about each one in order to help guide you to the correct device depending on what you are trying to find.
First up we have Radio Frequency Detectors or RF Detectors for short. These devices pick up the source of a wireless signal. Meaning if you have an antenna that is transmitting information it would be able to locate that antenna. The easiest way to visualize this is to think about how a metal detector works. The closer you are to a piece of metal the device will beep. This operates the same way, but do keep in mind that it's locating a signal, this could be a wireless camera, a wireless microphone, or even something completely harmless like your Radio, TV, Bluetooth, WiFi or even just your smartphone. This is where RF Detectors start to separate themselves and the differences between RF detectors become clearer.
Higher-end RF Detectors have the ability to distinguish one signal from another that they are detecting. A really good example of why and how this is useful is; say you are doing an RF sweep in a high-rise building and the RF Detector you are using starts to indicate that there is a strong signal nearby. After some intense searching, you realize it's a WiFi extender from the floor below you that is skewing your results. A higher-end RF Detector would've told you that the signal it's detecting was actually a WiFi signal which would have allowed you to ignore it completely and move on. This feature is extremely useful whenever you cannot control your environment, such as being outdoors to sweep a vehicle, living in an apartment or condo, or if you're staying in a hotel, and those are just some examples.
Another thing that you can look out for which can distinguish RF Detectors from one another is a lot of them are coming with multi-function designs. A lot of higher-end RF Detectors will have multiple features built right into the same device so it would have the ability to say, not only detect RF signals but produce White Noise to secure a conversation. Now no two RF Detectors will have all of the same multi-function use so it's really up to you to find the features that would help your unique situation the best. To find that, I would recommend watching the video located on the product page on our website for all of our Counter Surveillance products to get the best idea of their features and how it can help you.
Really the last thing that can set RF Detectors apart is their Detection Range. This simply means how many different signals they can detect. You can find this information in the spec sheets or features section on our website. This is important because if you are looking for a device that transmits on a 7Ghz band and the detector you are using caps out at 6Ghz the RF Detector you are using literally cannot detect that signal and you will never be able to locate its source.
Up next is our Camera Lens locators. This is an extremely basic concept but it works incredibly well. Essentially what this does is it finds the lens of a camera by shining a light out as you look through a viewfinder that tinted to dull all colors. What happens is that light refracts off of the lens of a camera and shines back at you and appears to look like a little dot shining back at you. The genius behind this design is the fact that it finds both Wired and Wireless Cameras. Since it finds a camera's lens and every camera requires a lens in order to focus you can literally find any camera with one of these devices...

@ I love Bacon baby ! - Our Professional Multi Frequency Wireless Bug Detector: spycentre.com/products/multi-channel-detector-for-wireless-protocols is the best we carry, able to differentiate between many different signal types, though a more basic unit that still can tell the difference between a cellular signal or a WiFi signal would be our Multi Use RF Bug Detector: spycentre.com/products/multi-use-rf-detector. Each should be able to tell if something is transmitting RF signals in the area, but the Multi Frequency unit would have a better understanding of the type of signal, helping you to determine if it is something malicious, like a camera or a microphone, or benign, like a WiFi router.

@ Alexa S. - I would be more than happy to assist you today. Here I'll give examples of what we carry and how they may be able to help. This is the general list of each of our bug detecting or blocking devices: spycentre.com/collections/counter-surveillance.
If you think a camera is in the area, you'll need a camera lens finder, such as our Camera Finder: spycentre.com/products/camera-finder-with-rf-detector or our Multi-Functional Bug Detector: spycentre.com/products/multifunctional-bug-detector. The first device linked is not as sensitive as the second in terms of Radio Frequency (RF) detection with a range of 1 MHz - 6.5 GHz, so I would suggest going for a better RF detector if it is not specifically a camera that you are looking for. The Multi-Functional Bug Detector is a great device, though, coming with the Camera Finder attachment and finding a wide range of RF bandwidth between 10 MHz - 10 GHz, the ability to find laser-based microphones, and true landline phone tapping.
The more base-level devices that find signals being transmitted start with our Counter Tek Ultra Pro: spycentre.com/products/countertek-ultrapro-wireless-bug-detector and then our Multi-USE RF Detector has a bit more of an advantage over that one as it knows the difference between a WiFi or a Cellular signal: spycentre.com/products/multi-use-rf-detector.
The more advanced-level devices start looking for more signal types and have more overall sensitivity. Our Professional Digital RF Wireless Bug Detector can find Cellular, WiFi, and Bluetooth signals and has a special Micro Pointer antenna that can pinpoint where a signal is being transmitted from spycentre.com/products/professional-digital-rf-bug-detector. Our Professional Multi-Frequency Bug Detector is even more sensitive with six separate indicator bars for different signal types: spycentre.com/products/multi-channel-detector-for-wireless-protocols.

    • @SpyCentreSecurity
      @SpyCentreSecurity  Před 2 lety +1

@ TranscendentOne - Unfortunately, we have not found a device that can specifically detect cell phone hacking. When using an RF detector, normal cellular data usage would be indistinguishable from abnormal data usage. If you are worried about hacking, it’s best to start with changing all of your passwords. If a problem persists, you may need to switch phones or even carriers.

@ Rosalind Earp - While we do not have one of those devices to test right now, we can say that if there are any LED bulbs or cameras inside the unit, they would be reflected against the flashing light of a Camera Lens Finder. If anything is reflecting behind a screen, it may require a closer physical examination. Radio frequency ( RF ) detection will find signals being transmitted. If a camera is not transmitting, the best way to find it would be a Camera Lens Finder and doing a physical search. Thanks for the question. Here I'll give examples of what we carry and how they may be able to help. This is the general list of our bug-detecting or blocking devices: spycentre.com/collections/counter-surveillance.
If you think a camera is in the area, you'll need a lens finder, such as our Hidden Camera Detector with LCD IR Finder: spycentre.com/products/camera-detector-with-lcd-ir-finder.
A bank of red lights flashes from the back of the device while you would look through the translucent red film to see if you can find any pinprick reflections from the lights. If so, it could be a camera lens. It also has a special feature to find cameras using night vision infrared LEDs. A screen on the camera finder is tied to its built-in mini-camera with an infrared filter, allowing it to see infrared light emitted from hidden night vision cameras.
Sometimes, the person who may have placed a camera or a microphone cannot get back to the area to pick up their recording device, so they need to access it wirelessly. If a camera or microphone is transmitting a wireless signal, our Multi-Use RF Bug Detector: spycentre.com/products/multi-use-rf-detector should be able to find it. The Multi-Use RF Bug Detector is a great device, finding a wide range of RF bandwidth between 50 MHz-6.0 GHz while noting their differences. It has unique indicator lights to alert users if they find a WIFI or cellular signals. Real-time GPS tracking devices often use cellular signals, so the Multi-Use RF Bug Detector would also be helpful when searching for a GPS tracker.
