Good lord this was complicated. Most cameras have infared for when it's dark. Turn off the lights open your cell camera and look for a white light coming from any cameras. Fast easy and no special equipment needed.

As posted above, my iPhone Xr cannot see IR from a TV remote control, but my LG smartphone can, so, it does vary.
some components on non-wifi enabled still emit certain RF frequencies from their components.
And it is illegal for airBNB hosts to put cameras in anywhere other than shared areas like living rooms or hallways. If you find a hidden device in the bedroom, *call the police immediately*

the bathroom is one of the first places someone would hide a camera because of one of the biggest motives for hidden cameras. Theres also devices that let you spot a camera lens by using light to bounce off the lens
@@1111angell They're devices, not apps. Search for "hidden camera detector" and you'll find a couple different types. They don't work that great, by the way.

Any camera that is in the privacy of your own home that you are not aware of and is not mentioned in the lease you signed and is not in public it's totally illegal. If you find a camera go straight to a lawyer by pass the cops because they are probably in on it if it's private property.
installing a hidden camera in somebody else's private residence *is* a sex crime. Forget about lawyers, it must be reported to the cops to ensure forensic preservation of the evidence.

Wifi search is good. You can also scan the room looking through your phone camera. Cameras will see infrared emitting from devices like mini cameras

I think certain camera can pick up ir as a red light. You can test with your tv remote. I believe a lot of phone camera has ir filters that block it for better images.

Apparently mobile phone cameras can pick up infra red light emitted by infra red cameras, it shows up as a bright light, so if the lights are off in a property and its dark, if you scan the room with your phone camera and see no bright lights, chances are your safe when you have it off so to speak :)
How ?? I installed the phone apps to find any spy device , and the app is full of shit , I aimed it at my stainless steel knife, it said device detected. Outside fridge that I have was telling me device detected on top of an unplugged refrigerator.. The apps are fake, cant wait to rate two of them that I got, and both apps had ratings of âââââ . Both didnt even detect my spy glasses while on record . But, if you can give me any information, that would be really helpful Sir.. Someone stole wood on my rural property, I know who did it, but had no security cameras, their attitude when confronted was , no pic , of me taking means no crime .. The apps are not very helpful but he didn't say anything about using the apps, he said to use the phones camera. Get a tv remote and try to see the infrared light at the top while pushing a button (on the remote). You can't. Try again with looking through a cell phone camera and it becomes visible. The apps just look for lens Flintstones that's why any reflection (ie knife) can trigger it.

@@SteveK99SubAside from maybe an app to see who's on your wi-fi I haven't really used any camera detecting apps as my understanding is that turning off the lights and shining a flashlight around is just as or more effective. That being said , HIDDEN CAMERA DETECTOR for iOS, is said to be, perhaps, the best at what it does (look for glints reflecting off lenses) but even then you have to get very close and won't pinpoint behind, say, mirrors . Always assume there is a recoding device in a place that is accessible by others, especially in places where clothing is removed.
The one point of contention is that listing requirements specify they must divulge any recording devices whether they are in common areas or not if I'm not mistaken. That said, out of curiosity, have you heard of vacationers taking those cameras for evidence and if the lister tried to file theft charges?? And / or use intimidation to try to get out of files being charged against them for violation of expected privacy.. ?

The way I do it.I simply blind all cameras with infrared floodlight.Very effective If there is any cameras hidden.
I live in an apartment, I came home and found the maintenance guy in my unit without my request or a work order, he stated my air conditioning unit was leaking from outside so he came in to check and make sure no leaks were on the inside of my unit. I sounds reasonable, but this isn't the first time this has happened, I spoke with management, of course their goal is to protect the rental property so, they stated it must have been a leak and they of condone his actions. I don't trust him or management. Thank you for the suggestions I will be looking into which is best for me and if you anymore, send them my way. Thanks again.

He says, if its a hidden camera (pin hole) the resolution isn't going to be great and if it uses an SD card its essentially not detectable. In the dark they cant see. If its wifi, its very hard to detect because.... he just makes it seem hopeless... maybe it is.

infrared cameras have to light the scene with an infrared spotlight. many smartphone cameras can see infrared light. regardless an IR detector would easily identify that.

First of all this is a great informative video. 2nd this is so damn sad we actually have to worry about things like this and make videos on the subject. Also I saw a small hole above the shower in Santana row air bnb I was staying at in California few weeks ago and it looked so suspicious I couldn't even enjoy my stay in that place đ so I was paranoid that I was being recorded doing everything.
Why not just use duct tape and tape over it?
Take a sheet of little sticky coloured dots, such as used in offices, around in your pocket & stick one over any suspicious little holes. If anyone asks why, you can say it is so you can do your eye exercises.

Network search will only work if the ICMP Protocol is allowed on the Camera itself. Otherwise the Packets are dropped and it wont show up in the search.

I rely heavily on my three-ring cameras to prevent parties as my house (The Perrault House located in Natchitoches, Louisiana) is furnished with high-end furnishings and is 3800 sq. ft. I have had guests attempt to rent my home for parties of all sorts for 75 family members,... I recently had a family register ten guests while sneaking in seven additional guests. My home is my home, not a hotel where guests are charged by the person and not an event venue. If you choose to rent my home then you have to follow my house rules. Or, you can choose a different home or a hotel. My cameras are easily visible (driveway gate, backdoor, and garden gate. My two neighbors across the street have cameras that reach my property. I have each camera listed in my description. If you break a house rule you are asked to cancel your reservation. You are either not given a refund, or charged for the extra guests losing the privilege of renting my home in the future. If a host has a camera that is hidden and not noted in their listing then guests should report the listing to Airbnb so that the host loses their privilege to list their property and the guest should report to the police any camera in a private area such as a bedroom or a bathroom.

i got a friend who has a bunch of hidden cameras all around his apartment. They're mostly just like a clock or a picture connected to a power outlet. He does this because he constantly has escorts come over and he dosnt want one of them threaten him with rape/etc. Its actually happened a few times to him. Last incident was the girl found him herself and went to his place and was walking around naked/drinking/sex and later that night she went crazy and said he raped her. I believe she did this because she is a recent immigrant illegal and there is a type of visa that if you get into some serious physical altercation, the US gives you a temporary resident status for 2 years which can later turn to a green card and then citizenship. Or she just wanted money, not sure. She also had a sidekick (young asian guy) who later punched my friend

most people dont know they can access their router info from the sticker on the back, that will show you what is connected to your wifi and certain speeds, google how to access router and do the ip one.

I had someone tell me that his brother and his brothers girlfriend got an Airbnb when staying in San Diego. The owner had cameras in the living room and filmed the. Having sex in the living room and tried to get money from them and air bnb for cleaning services. The owner straight up told them "I reviewed our cameras and caught you having sex in our living room and now we need everything cleaned and couches steam cleaned etc".
I'm an Airbnb host and I would be delighted if my guests had sex on the couch as long as they didn't leave a mess or stains. I want my guests to enjoy themselves so f*ck away! And I own a steam cleaner / upholstery cleaner every host needs one.
are you able to see what other devices are on the same network if only given GUEST access?
I have an IT business and the answer is:
- if a Guest network is set up the default way, the answer is no. You could even use the cameras on a Guest network and you could not detect them from your Guest network. However, this only means another Guest cannot see your device. Guests cannot even share files with each other if it is set up correctly.
- Once bridged to the wire, the Wi-Fi protection is gone. If the network traffic is secure at the camera level, as is often the case, even after it gets bridged to the wire, the traffic is encrypted. However, that simply means that the only device that can decode the traffic from the camera(s) is the camera app or device. It doesn't mean they aren't spying on you.
- Wired cameras are far more common than this video implies. The problem is the camera needs power to be able to run unattended long term. That means you need to have wires to the camera for power. The easiest wire to run is network twisted pair network wiring. The twisted pair wiring can, and usually does, carry the power for the camera as well. The technology is called Power Over Ethernet (POE) and is a common capability of network switches. The Ethernet network switch in the wiring closet is usually backed up by a UPS to keep the network alive in a power failure so the Internet for the sake of the phones still works. This same UPS is normally a requirement for alarm systems, fire monitoring, and property surveillance. Thus, in a power outage their computer systems perform an orderly shutdown long before their network, Internet, phones, alarms, and surveillance do. The UPSes in the wiring closet where the switches are can run a long time because the devices require little power. - Often cameras are on a Cable TV network (CATV) which is shielded wire in which case there is no Wi-Fi or radiated signal and you can do power over CATV also. Even if you only have 120V AC where you want to put the camera and no network wiring, you can buy a device that can use your house wiring as Ethernet wiring, and you still don't need Wi-Fi.
- Infrared lighting in a room does not need to be associated with a camera. All that needs to happen is for it to be on because it appears to be off, day or night. You could detect these with a proper detector.
- Anybody who has talked to anybody about this subject is going to know that Wi-Fi cameras can give themselves away easily to $10 detectors. You are likely to find Wi-Fi cameras most useful in the babies room so you can check on them at night without going in there, watch the kids in the basement, watch the baby sitter's handling of the kids from your phone when away, used in conjunction with your home's alarm system, etc.

I've come accept I'm being monitored. Our family of 4 stayed in a nice condo on the beach a couple years ago and I noticed nest cams in the living area. I just sighed and realized fun isn't private. As long as I don't hear a voice talk thru it, they can get out their popcorn:/
