- The #VolvoXC90 started a new design language for #Volvo nearly a decade ago when the second-generation came out in 2015. While we are expecting the brand to introduce a new version of the #XC90 in the next couple years. The 2024 #XC90T8Recharge gets some updates to go along with its new #PHEV powertrain which promises more power, range, and efficiency. Despite its age, the latest #VolvoXC90T8Recharge can still hold its own against much newer rivals.

Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all had a great weekend. While we await the launch of the fully electric EX90 this year, Volvo says the XC90 is not going anywhere and you should expect a new generation to show up in 2025. This may be one of the oldest new cars on the market in terms of the design, but it has also aged extremely well and still looks fresh and modern. Not very many brands can pull that off.
Woohoo I’m excited for the next gen xc90! EVs can wait! Especially since they all don’t have NA cs charging as standard across alll other car makers
Ex90 can wait... when is the xc90 2025 coming out.
I have the B6 version of this. I love my XC90. Been in love with them since 2003 when I saw my high school teacher drive one of these. I always told myself when I could afford one, I’d have it. And here I am-I’m in a 2023 B6 CPO of course 😊
On a full tank the b6 can get up to 700 miles 93 octane of course it’s amazing and google isn’t that bad for the infotainment
Either drivetrain are excellent for road trips
@@dennwilliams3342 700 miles? Where did you learn of that.
@@bradleyscarreviews I can show you that ! I didn’t believe it either 🤣🤣🤣 average 540 miles highway 340 city driving max700 miles
They did a good job with the design. It still looks fresh after all these years.
Volvo is among one of the very few companies that can make a 2.0 not sound grainy
The manual tilt and telescope is a safety thing. Volvo made this choice just like limiting all of their cars to 112mph.
Great video! Volvo is like fine wine man, I really like what they are doing. Their old T8 wasn't good, because it was trying to do too much with the turbo+supercharger and a mild hybrid. These new PHEVs are excellent! Dig the interior, they really just need to put in some hardware knob/wheel for drive modes (could go on the steering wheel, for example), it's too cumbersome this way. The 90 is too big for my needs and it's way too expensive, but the 40 and 60 are truly excellent. Too bad they don't have the XC40 PHEV, only gas or pure electric. I'd love to see a small hybrid.
Your’e spot on! Always buy a Volvo when it’s about to be discontinued due to a new model. Then you will have a fantastic car
11:44 "9 inches is starting to look a little small."
That's what she said.
as a V60 T8 owner, I'd like to see volvo work on 3 things.
1. android automotive is simply not enough, we need android auto. android automotive+whatever cellular connection is in my car, is easily overloaded by tidal's higher bitrates, vs my phone gets 5G access everywhere I go. also, who's to know if in 10 years, the cellular standards in our cars start getting phased out. I know u can bluetooth tether ur phone to augment the car's internet connection, and I haven't found that to be a fix (though I haven't tried it recently)
2. the lack of a drive mode button is maddening, but it's compounded by a few other factors. drive mode is one of the few things you CAN'T control with voice commands. if i could tell the car to go into power mode, or pure mode, i'd be completely fine not having a drive mode selector. OR, if I could have a programmable favourites row of buttons on the infotainment screen that i can set (like for example, the electric cabin heater, my 2 or 3 favourite drive modes, and maybe 1 or 2 radio stations for my parents), i wouldn't miss physical buttons so much, and my parents might actually drive the damn thing. which, my parents are intimidated by the car (and maybe also the $ i put into it) so no one but me drives the thing.
3. I wonder if [avoiding CVTs and the associated engine drone] is the reason volvo doesn't have a front electric motor and electric AWD. because in the V60, pure electric mode is perfectly adequate. regenerative braking is excellent under ~70km/h. you can truly drive this thing one-pedal. but the electric torque is also nothin to sneeze at in the wet/snow/ice, when driving only 2 wheels. a weak electric motor between the gas engine and the transaxle might make getting off the line a lil easier, but those sort of setups usually involve CVTs. gear shifts are simply not something you feel with electric drivetrains. and ICE-CVT drone is certainly not something you hear in a luxury car. personally, I just hope the whole market takes note of what RAM wants to do with the ramcharger, and what chevy did with the volt, and copy that shit, instead of whatever the heck BMW did with the iX.
Enjoyed watching this. Many thanks! ❤️
Thank you for the beautiful display.
2k away from Sofyan becoming a millionaire…. LETS HELP THIS REVIEWER OUT.. Share these videos.
Such a handsome-looking SUV. I think this design will age well for years to come!
Amazing job Sofyan.
The XC90 needs a redesign, that suv came out when I was still working for Volvo, and that was almost a decade ago in 2015 !!
its getting redesigned in 2025
Yeah, big time. This thing was fine 10 years ago but not in 2024.
I disagree it still looks modern. It has a very timeless design
@@KJVirander i love how it looks!
Great review! This vehicle makes a good case for a family hauler, however $87K is a ridiculous amount of money!
87k is high but you can do so much worse for not much less
87k is not what you'd pay…dealers across the nation are discounting them heavily, as well as Volvo.
Get one CPO! It’s a bargain! 5 year unlimited mile warranty.
Way too much money for an old, 4-cylinder SUV in this class.
@@MercOne 100% agree. If you can get a CPO that's 2 years old and a full, extended warranty for $45K, then it makes sense.
hey I like your videos. it would be good if you will review new toyota land cruiser 300.
I think you may have been in some overheat mode after two 0-60 launches. Our 2024 XC90 Recharge feels very quick off the line in Pure. Feels more powerful than my 2020 V90CC T6 off the line when driving normal. The instant torque is real. It’s like it gives you 90% of what it has immediately, but if you keep pushing pedal down there is only a tiny bit more. Again in Pure. In Power the thing is legit fast.
Still the best PHEV in the class. It’s aged well and it still excels in so many ways
There are no dents in this car. Even some newer rivals are worse than this
Perhaps three years ago, I would have agreed.
The lack of innovation over the past 3-5 years has greatly diminished any perceived value it used to offer. Volvo has lost the plot on pretty much their entire portfolio, only focusing efforts on their EV line.
FYI, Volvo has been on the same list as dodge when it comes to dependability and longevity.
PS: not a compliment😂
@@omendarklight1526Volvo is still better. Better build quality and looks way better. Its 1000% safer than any Dodge. Take care of the car and you won't have many issues.
The Kia Sorento PHEV is overpriced compared to its ICE models, but it’s a deal compared to this Volvo. Nice interior, equivalent safety systems, and better infotainment. The only area the Sorento loses out is in 0-60.
@@bt5252but then you drive a kia
Enjoyed the review. Being that the electric motor is on the rear axle of the vehicle, does that mean when the battery is depleted the car becomes a front wheel drive vehicle?
Still nice, but this is no longer a showstopper like when it first debuted. I actually think the pre refreshed model had a better interior minus the infotainment. This is good but it doesn't wow you like the the pre-refresh. I hope Volvo does a thorough remodel and make this a desirable vehicle again.I would find it hard to take this over most of it's competitors.
XC90 looks amazing from the outside but the infotainment is bland as hell
As long as it has Apple CarPlay and android auto and it works who cares. It doesn’t need to be flashy
If the rear wheels are only powered by the electric motor, what happens when the battery is depleted? Does it become front drive only until you recharge?
Could you please review S90 t8..thank you
wow that engine bay is CLEAN AF
Not surprised to hear the door rattle when closing 😮
I want a Volvo because theyre they’re the underdog. The less looked at car. Even here in Florida. I actually see more sedans than the SUVs. Truly unique design. Next lease perhaps. Can’t wait for my Jeep lease to be over with.
It’s odd they leave the front fog switch in the car without actually installing fog lights. I found that peculiar on our Recharge.
I still found this attractive as a full package. I suspect this is probably more reliable compare to previous version.
Will Volvo come out with a new XC90 ICE version or is EX90 the replacement?
Volvo site states : 6.4kW 2-phase onboard charger with a 3 hr charge time
I have always thought that this and the Aviator with Grand Touring option is the best two in this class.
My girlfriend has the 2016 inscription it has more options than the later generations it just felt better and the materials are better grade.
Has she had any issues with it?

The manual adjustment is due to safety design. The engineers were not able to get the steering column and mechanisms to collapse out of the way in a frontal crash with an electronically adjustable unit, given wiring harnesses and connections. The manual column completely snaps and drops under, and out of harms way.
We call BS on that. Every other luxury brand offers a power mechanism for the adjustable steering column and they made it work.
Airbags are supposed to come out of the steering wheel. Why would they want it to collapse in a collision?
@@theredlineawfully obvious you don't understand the Swedes and how dedicated they are to their safety.
@@theredlinefirst responders love manual steering columns. There's a good reason for it, I'm glad it's not at the forefront of your mind honestly.
I buy a Volvo XC90 Recharge as my 1st SUV.
I can't wait for the TX 550h review!!!
Prepare to be very disappointed 😂
The tx really cannot hold a candle to any of its competitors in driving experience performance handling luxury, features, build quality materials etc etc etc. and the tx is a ripoff compared to the xc90. For instance an xc90 PHEV starts just a couple grand more than a tx500h

2024 Volvo XC90 T8 Recharge eAWD Ultimate!
Still the classiest of the segment. Falling a bit behind on the bits and bobs available vs the German and Japanese competition.
The Japanese can’t hold a candle to the xc90
@@naveenthemachinehow so? The Lexus offers more room and cargo + comfy seats, while the MDX simply looks amazing and has good features with a comparable third row.
Volvos looks are probably one of the best as they age gracefully but that’s about it sadly.
@@arhamkhakwani5851 you forgot performance handling and features. In the tx PHEV you can’t even get a sunroof.
@@naveenthemachine performance and handling something that simply depends on the buyer, most of the time they don’t care about how powerful or fast the vehicle is. While there isn’t no sunroof or massaging seats, it’s something some buyers can live without. So far in my area TX has high demand.
Keeping it around but nothing new in YEARS. It's starting to really lag behind its direct competition.
Love Volvo, especially the V-wagons... but they seem to have given up on innovation, sadly.
No it doesn’t lag. Since the xc90 is very luxurious drives great and it’s very fast means it’s still competitive. Newer isn’t always better
@@naveenthemachine it lacks MANY of the features and tech that we have all come to expect, even three years ago. And it still doesn't have it. They were always a niche product - but by choosing to stick with the older tech - they are risking losing even the most faithful Volvo customer.
@@greatestsportslegends like what?
It’s got plenty- 4 zone climate, massaging seats, double wishbone front, air suspension, etc. what else is missinh
@@naveenthemachine where do I begin?! A 9-inch center display is from 2018. No wireless car play?! My 2017 Accord has it. No tilt/tele power steering column adjustment? In 2024 this should be getting 80+ kms on a single EV charge. That's off the top of my head...
@@greatestsportslegends I just listed the proper features the tx is severely lacking and all you got is just two minor omissions? 😂
great video and review. I have the '23 model in this same spec, without the b&w sound. i agree with all of your pros / cons of the vehicle. one thing like to magnify is that i think the infotainment is actually pretty bad, really bad. the google infotainment is a good idea, but its slow to work and frustrating to use. also, there is no HD radio, so listening to the radio is a very disappointing experience. that said, the apple carplay integration works very, very nicely so it makes up for most of the flaws in the native infotainment system. i think this is a very competitive vehicle worth considering. i cross-shopped with MDX type S and lexus TX. even with its weaknesses i think its best among current PHEV 3 row vehicles.
The screen is so small... Specially in this big car.
That 9inch screen is too small in this big SUV 😒😒😒😒😒😒and the three row..... I feel that's tooooo small, even for children 😒😒😒😒😒😒
Personally, I'm not a fan of having big tablet sized screens that some cars have ie. Tesla, 7-10" is more than acceptable for me. I prefer physical knobs anyday.
The price though
Volvos are rolling turds I miss my Volvo Bert one and Volvo turbo wagon from the 80s . They were reliable
Nice suv. However, I’m tired of the interior.
Great car but screen is to small
The steering wheel pulls away from the driver in a collision. The power system hampers that safety design, thus the omission.
Just B6 for 2024
You keep saying it’s old like 8 times. And there screen is fine. You guys getting way to comfortable with these big screens. Cars are meant for transportation not entertainment with big screens. You’re doing too much in my opinion.
Agreed
Lexus must have sponsored the video
@@boobookittyface9622Lexus can’t talk about old; they sold the last generation GX for how long?
You can't compare this hybrid system to the newers' SUVs. Volvo has been selling this system since 2016. Of course, the hybrid system has been updated throughout the years, but it's ancient compared to the newer hybrid systems that have recently been introduced. But overall, this has to be one of the best-looking SUVs in its class. The design harkens back to 2016, and it still looks fresh. Amazing! Volvo designs have always stood the test of time!
Instead of this beast, Outlander PHEV 2024 is good enough with a 20 kWh EV battery and 61-85km of pure EV range with commendable 248 bhp more than enough for daily practical life with much less price 😊
you should substitute "sadly" with "unfortunately" in your word choice. it would be more accurate.
The old seats were designed by orthopedic doctors. As an osteopath (sports medicine physician) myself, I DISLIKE THE SEATS since 2016, at least for ANY model with napa leather, have owned the xc40, xc60... new ones in leather have little give. The seats from every single model year before that were better, with ENOUGH bolstering.
I agree 100%. The seats in my 2006 S80 were the best seats of any vehicle I've ever owned!!
It’s incorrect to compare it to Lexus tx
The xc90 absolutely wipes the tx inside and out
Lexus > Volvo
@@naveenthemachine I mean TX is A 2023 model and XC90 is 2016. You don’t go comparing cars designed a decade apart.
@@igoldin74 but the xc90 has aged significantly better. And despite its age it’s still superior to the TX. The tx is already outdated vs the Volvo
@@naveenthemachine it is superior in certain ways, but for example, Sofyan mentioned screen sizes, at the time XC90 was designed 9” screen was big enough, and doesn’t seem realistic to upgrade the screen without changing the entire console. So that’s what it has and will have. This little things. But at certain things such as headlights, material quality, usability, safety features, for some of it Lexus has reached Volvo only with its latest models if it has at all.
Not sure what hes on about with the seats. I'm in them every day and I've never sat in a more comfortable seat. If he thinks these are stiff, he needs to sit in an XC40.
Do people think that Volvo is being curated more toward the Chinese market at the expense of the US and European market?
Not at all! Why would they curate their cars for the Chinese market. For some reason, people think Volvo is Chinese! It's not! We never talk about Land Rover and Jaguar being owned by an Indian company called Tata Motors! Are they now curating their cars for Indian market? Not at all
There are NO better seats than in Volvo 👆🏼

Looks very outdated. In this price range when you compete against bmw , Lexus , Mercedes ,Audi, and you don’t put power steering wheel , and gear shifters ,keeping the same body design as almost 10 years ago .Definitely not 85 k vehicle.
Dated exterior & interior design, manual steering wheel column, tight 2nd row seat room, dated infotainment, stiff front seats, lacking fuel economy, aged suspension and snipped top speed. Not what I’d be looking for in this class.
It’s always been a good looking SUV, but it’s definitely starting to show its age. It’s giving 2012 vibes on the outside!
It was released in 2015 bro , where did u get 2012 from ? 😂😂
There is nothing tempting about a Volvo, unless you're a mechanic.
This car only goes barley above 100mph for 87k 😆 🤣 😂 😹
There are a lots of discounts, and why would you need to go over 100
NOPE. I need plush, plush and a face ripper V6/v8 + electric assist for that kind of cash. The center screen is an embarrassment TBH. They have a lot of nerve sticking that thing in a 90K vehicle.
