- Redemption Reapers is known as a challenging game, but with the recent addition of Easy Mode, I thought now would be a good time to take another look and see if its playability and value have increased. Redemption Reapers is a tactical strategy RPG and is available on Steam, PS4, PS5, and Switch. It is also on sale through 6/7/23 on Steam and the Nintendo eshop!

I just found this video five months after it was released, but good news: The Steam Autumn sale has his going for 50% off. I was driven off by all the reviews saying it was a drag and not worth the full $50 price tag, but I could easily see myself picking it up for $25 with all the new tweaks. I want to support the developers who made Ender Lilies even if strat RPGs aren't usually my thing.
Like all the comments, loved Ender Lilies to death so I waited to buy this despite the haunting reviews. Since I preferred the aesthetic of Days of Ruin: Advance Wars over the other titles, I knew I would similarly enjoy this as well. And to my surprise, I MUCH prefer the combat system of this over many other tactic RPGS (sort of reminds me of Front Mission 4+). Felt more challenging and at the same time less cheesy/bs than many other tactic RPGs so I'd rank this very high.
As for easy mode, I never bother with easy mode, but I'm happy there's a mode for casual players (although, imo skirmishes are already a well balanced way of allowing stuck players/casual players to outlevel/gear the enemies (As well as get treasures/relics they didn't want to risk getting in the actual story chapter).
Nice review of the changes. You covered some skill buffs but did they nerf anything skill or equipment wise?

As far as I know there weren't any nerfs, graphic, or audio changes. Though It's possible some things have been nerfed during the rebalancing. Their patch notes aren't terribly specific so I'd have to play through a good ways again to see if I can spot anything. I suppose, technically, there was one graphics update when they added in 2k and 4k support on pc.
I absolutely loved Ender Lilies so I’m all for supporting this developer. I picked up Redemption Reapers over the weekend on Switch for $24.99 and I’m totally hooked.

I'm not sure. This is the most up to date info I have, though I did see that the physical version is delayed until July.
I don’t regret getting this game.. It’s like Fire Emblem to play round Halloween! Essential for any SRPG library.. My only gripe is hard to play in portable mode cuz the tiny text hurts my eyes

@@89Games I agree! I wanted to mention it because it seemingly went under the radar.. And for whatever reason I’m assessing the whole genre today going through my entire collection.. 13 Sentinels pretty much brought me here.. Now it’s onto Unicorn Overlord👍
@@Mintcar923 unicorn overlord is my favorite strategy RPG right now! I haven't played 13 sentinels but having played unicorn overlord makes me want to check it out since it's from the same dev.
@@89Games Well 13 Sentinels is more or less a hybrid SRPG/Graphic Adventure.. I wanna say Diofield Chronicle meets Valiant Hearts.. But for sci fi anime fans.. Another must have in my humble opinion

Oh yeah! I’m going to buy it. Now heck I may even try it on normal mode just to see. Besides FE Engage was to me on normal mode was more challenging then FE Three houses so can’t be that bad.

I’m playing it on normal it’s not to bad although the tactics in this are a little different than some of the games I’m used and I ended a few maps with only 2 people left standing cause I feel strong than I charge forth and the game teaches me that I still need to make a plan first lol I love the changes they made because while for the most part I don’t use grinding I need the mental safety net of knowing there is viable grinding to help me push forward without worry
Game is perfectly balanced in terms of difficulty on normal. No perma death means you spend less time soft resetting/save scumming when the enemy gets a 1% crit attack in and the game weens you in very nicely into new enemy types so you can actually take risks & develop plans in the future in what formations to use against them.
Skirmishes allow players who feel stuck to outlevel/gear/skill the enemies, so honestly normal mode while I admit might be tough for the casual person, is easily rectified by one of the most classic strategies of old times...grinding (Which thankfully don't take too long).

I like the poit fo reworking the difficult level in REDEMPTIOM REAPERS and putting in a real EASY LEVEL.
On the other hand THE STORY LINE was also a haevely criticised point of the game that scares off potential buyers. I mean XCOM 2 WAR OF THE HOSEN had showed there are possebilities to correct such weaknesses.
Yeah, the story develops too slowly. It does get interesting but it waits until almost the end of the game to do it.
Honestly imo it's not so much that's it's hard on normal (which it is during certain chapters) but it's more so that its way too punishing and brutal for every little thing even when u carefully plan out strategies, not to mention the heavy lack of resources. This is my main issue with redemption reapers and the game puts u in way too many disadvantageous situations and if even ONE unit falls you're heavily punished for it and most likely screwed the rest of the mission.
Its way too tedious and stressful playing through on normal for me so the easy difficulty is welcomed. I made it to ch 20 on normal but by that point i was too exhausted and frustrated to keep going after failing the mission constantly.
Also 5 measly units is absurd against legions of monsters.
Have you tried it since the economy updates? You gain a lot more resources now and managing weapons isn't such a pain any more.
If u mean on normal? No i haven't played it on normal difficulty again since being stuck on ch 20. Honestly didn't think the update would improve the difficulty on normal but i may go back and see.
I just meant in general. Gameplay wise, normal can still be brutal especially toward the end. Even though, I enjoy the challenge of Normal, Easy difficulty is a welcomed addition in my mind too. We play games to escape stress not create it, lol.

It isn't punishing at all. There's no perma death and you can honestly afford to sacrifice someone as decoy to kill important enemies if the need arises. You CAN also just use URS and stone wall everything + Lugh's matyr. I haven't lost more than 1 person so far on normal and I never used skirmish since I just assumed it was a way for players who felt stuck to outlevel the enemies.
the worst part of this excellent game is i cant rotate the battle map
Yes, it is interesting they didn't put that in. Especially since this is rendered in 3d
