    I think the reason he says "what are you?" is that Sith haven't been seen for about 900 years at this point. This is probably the point where the Sith have probably faded to myth (at least to the public) and some probably wondering if they even existed at all at this point and also younger Jedi may not know that they wielded red lightsabers. And I'm also guessing that any Jedi who encounters this dark side user will not live to tell the council and thus keep the "the Sith haven't been seen in over a millennia" line from Phantom Menace canon.

      Just because the Jedi council's official position is that "The Sith have been extinct for a millennia" does not mean Jedi, even ones who survived to tell the tale, have never encountered the Sith. They may not know it was a Sith, for example. They also may have kept it a secret for personal or other reasons. This is 50-100 years before TPM. In the real world; military personnel claimed to have seen Aliens years ago and people still don't believe them. Lots of scenarios could occur that results in the Jedi Council in 29 BBY being oblivious to the Sith's survival.
      Also, Yoda and Mace know of the Rule of 2, despite the Sith "going extinct" around the time it started. I think Yoda knows more than he lets on.

    You guys are having the weirdest takes on this one. "Why this story?" Because we've never deviated from a story being after Phantom Menace and before Force Awakens, and Disney is testing if people will be interested in shows and movies that expand beyond that, because parts of fandom have started really asking for it. You're sick of Tatooine? You're sick of post-empire? You're sick of pre-OT/post-PT? This show is them seeing how many people feel that.

    • @TheRoyalFino
      @TheRoyalFino Před 12 dny +3

      I'm not sick of the Skywalker time period but also want to see this. But I've heard A LOT of people say they are sick of the Empire era stuff; so I get that. They want to create almost as much content as the MCU does but have it spread across different time periods and stories; so there is potentially an Old Republic saga, a High Republic saga, a New Republic saga and some other stuff (including Empire era) for those that enjoy it. It's a buffet and I'm hoping there is an audience for all of that; even if it's not the same audience that watches all those eras.

    • @mr.stuffdoer8483
      @mr.stuffdoer8483 Před 12 dny +4

      @@TheRoyalFino honestly I think by doing this they’re massively differentiating Star Wars from the MCU. The MCU is primarily one long-running narrative that’s heading forward. The strength of Star Wars is that it doesn’t have to be that. This is an expansive universe with a ton of concepts and stories to explore across centuries upon centuries. And I also like a lot of the stuff we’ve been getting to develop the “primary narrative,” but this franchise doesn’t need that primary narrative. The setting as a concept is enough.

    • @evanskan6326
      @evanskan6326 Před 12 dny

      Exactly this! As a Star Wars fan I enjoyed the sequels but I also had major issues with the setting. I wanted something new and different, not another "Death Star". Star Wars has always been about the Skywalker saga but it badly needs new stories. The High Republic and the Vision episodes are giving us exactly this. New characters, new stories. If fans like them, we will see more in the future.

    I used to really like your channel and felt like you were a force of positivity and I really enjoyed your excitement about things but these recent reviews on the Acolyte trailers have seemingly joined the chorus of supposed Star Wars fans that just hate everything new and breeds toxicity that hurts people. This tone is just very different from what I remember your channel being. People seem to forget how much the prequels were hated when they first came out and how intensely the toxic backlash affected actors and artists involved in the prequel movies. You are absolutely entitled to your opinion but as a lifelong Star Wars devoted fan myself, I’m extremely disappointed to hear you say, “yeah this series will have to prove itself to me”. Its to show the Jedi hubris and ego. They had been around for quite some time, but were smart enough to cover their tracks. Force Nijas are a very cool idea. A force user who doesn’t have a light saber, or simply chooses not to use the saber, and instead leans more into using other force abilities with a different variety of weapons is dope. Use the Jedi Mind Trick and make everyone in the room you just walked into think you’re invisible. No one sees nothin.
    The negative about both this trailer and the last teaser is that the Jedi are always getting murdered. They are always getting hunted. And seriously, when was the last time we weren’t told the Jedi are the real bad guys because they’re secretly war mongers who are so drunk on their own Too Cool for School-Aid hubris. There is so much that is different about the galaxy than what you see in the Skywalker timeline. A lot more force groups, both light, dark, and grey. And the Jedi are becoming the insular organization we are familiar with. it would only make sense that if some sith lord, or acolyte appear, the Jedi would hide that information. I would say its safe to assume that any Jedi who encounters the Sith in this show will die. So as to preserve the whole "we've never encountered a Sith in a 1000 years thing" from TPM. Especially since we know Jedi were killed by the Sith before TPM (that's how Sith get their lightsabers). I also think it would be dope if they get rid of/retcon Darth Tenebrous with this show. Have Mae (Amandla's character) being trained by the current Dark Lord of the Sith to become the new Sith Lord. End the show either with Mae becoming the new Dark Lord of the Sith or simply just fully becoming the Sith Lord. And then tease in some way that she will ultimately be the one who trains Plagueis. Cause its not like Tenebrous has any interesting lore anyway.

    I reckon we're seeing the same tactic they used to advertise the Mandalorian. That it's a lot of footage from the first couple of episodes culminating in that fight scene before it focuses on the Acolyte herself. Because I can't see them maintaining the flow of star wars history if any those Jedi make it out of that situation alive

    The High Republic era along with the Visions short episodes is exactly what Star Wars need. Fresh ideas. Yes, Star Wars has always been about the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. It is one of the greatest stories ever told! Filoni will complete this saga (with his "Filoni-verse") but Star Wars needs to go beyond the Skywalker saga. They did it before with the Old Republic stories, they must do it again now.
    What I like about the High Republic is that they also bring in some of the aspects/elements of the Old Republic stories. The Acolyte takes place around the end of the High Republic era where the Jedi have been "weakened" by other threats (presented in the comic books and novels). It will show us how the Sith (who are considered a myth now) returned and how the events will lead to Plagueis, Palpatine e.t.c..

    Careful with the canon Adam regarding "we haven't seen the Sith for a millennium". George Lucas been retconning this damned I.P. since 1983. Vader's papa now? Give me a break. Luke and Leia are twin siblings? give me a break. Then what did we get next. Greedo shot first! Retcon retcon retcon. Hell "return of the Jedi" was originaly called "Revenge of the Jedi" I had a poster sent to me by the LucasFilm fan club back in the early 80s. RETCON RETCON RETCON that's the George Lucas way. Disney just keeping with tradition that George set. It's bewilders me how so many Star Wars fans don't like the retcon. I got used to it at the age of 11 when I saw Return in the theaters as a kid. I'm 51. 40 (edit) years of retconning I can handle it. Seems everybody else is weak in the knees. Sucks to not be me.

      Unlikely, more that it's tempting someone to use the Dark Side.
      The Jedi view The Force as a natural phenomena that can't be disobeyed. They are very Buddhist about just living in harmony with The Force.
      The Sith don't share that view, they feel like they can command the Force and change fate. So daring someone to "pull the thread" is just telling them "Don't listen to the Jedi saying that the "will of the Force" is immutable. Listen to us, and change it to your desires."

    And Obi-wan kenobi didn't remember R2D2 in A new Hope. I think it is okay to recon small details like Mace Windu mentioning the sith haven't been seen in a millennia. We also know that the Republic is HISTORICALLY bad at predicting stuff and knowing things. Yoda the entire prequel trilogy was constantly pissed off about how much he couldn't see of past, present, or future. The council is part of why the Jedi fell from being the holy order they were into mercenaries. So let's maybe not take some side line Mace says as verifiable fact.

  • @trainmaster36productions

    The Jedi's hubris are their downfall. They didn't recognize the Sith had returned in TPM until it was too late, and in all likely hood, they either defeat this guy or just brush it under the rug and assume the Sith are still destroyed and that he isn't Sith, just another force user with a red lightsaber because the Jedi of this time WOULD DO THAT; probably keeping the information ONLY to Council members too, but probably only like Yoda. Yoda himself even swept the massacre the Jedi did to the Nameless in the High Republic under the rug, so a 'Sith' appearing and then disappearing would also just be forgotten and not told to the Republic or the rest of the Order.

  • @thedisneylandsolotraveler9367

    Every Star Wars series, going back to Clone Wars, set out to do two things. They tell the story of the characters on the series, and in doing so uncover more about the overall Star Wars Universe. The most recent example of this is Bad Batch. It's both the story of Omega and her space dads, and an exploration into the Empires practices in experimental cloning. Granted, it was like a 90%-10% split on that, which made the show a bit of a slog for me because I was more interested in the weird cloning stuff. So I'm very interested to see what this show adds, and how it goes about that. From the trailers I have no clue. That's not a bad thing though. I'd rather learn from the show than the trailer.

    It's the end of the High Republic, an entirely new era in live action. Without knowing details this looks like maybe, MAYBE, the start of the sith re-emergence. The Jedi believed the Sith were gone because for millennia they were. But the Dark Side is always present. One thing I would recommend is to not look for too many connections to the eventual prequels era. Yes, everything is connected in SW but I get the impression this is more about the Jedi beginning their slow journey to being more fundamental. In the High Republic the Jedi are far more looser, more colorful, they have unique connections to the Force and are encouraged to tap into their individuality to enhance the Order overall. By the prequels they were much more monk-like. Way more rigid in their approach to the Force and a more rigid adherence to the rules.

    The response of the council was basically "Well we agree you were attacked Qui Gon, though your evidence he was a Sith is possibly weak and contradicts what we do know...... we'll use all our resources to look into this though as it is important". They didn't dismiss everything, they were just understandably doubtful that the Sith proper had returned.
    As for the trailer...... yeah this show has nothing for me. I can see a good show being built into the idea of a person falling to the dark side. That story has legs. But Disney has shown no ability to tell that story previously so I doubt they can do so here.

    Also, 100 years before ep1 is not that long ago for this to be called High Republic era. Dooku was 83 when he died. All the old heads would have been around for these events to have been relevant stories. 100 BBN is still in regular Republic. Not High Republic.

    I think I understand why Disney's Star Wars often portrays the Jedi as incompetent and ruthless "idiots." It seems the writers are using the Jedi as a metaphor for our current and recent governments and institutions. They symbolize what many perceive as outdated, inefficient, and, in some cases, evil systems. Personally, I prefer a traditional good vs. evil narrative, but their approach to storytelling becomes clearer when viewed from this perspective.
