Men should absolutely be believed as easily when they say they’re getting abused. The whole thing is an ourborus dumpster fire, it was initially hard as a women to be believed that they were getting abused. Then it bifurcated in the METOO movement where it was both super easy and super hard for women to get justice. Then sexist men start screaming about false allegations on cases that weren’t. Then a false allegation actually happens and the man is abused. It’s simultaneously been super hard until recently for Johnny Depp to get justice AND amber heard is devaluing all other women’s cries for help who are actually getting abused.

So I was married to someone that physically abused me (I was bigger than her so when she'd punch me and stuff it wouldn't hurt at all). I stayed because we has 2 girls together. When she started abusing the oldest daughter, I immediately called CPS. They did nothing. They said we should "be mindful of the stress mom is going through right now and help her." I saw red. Couldn't believe what I was hearing. For years I called CPS and they did nothing. All the while my ex would throw things at me. Bit me bad once. Scratched my face. I knew if i ever filed for divorce and tried getting the kids, id never win and never see my girls again. Eventually she put marks on our oldest one day, hid them from me, and sent her to school. The teacher saw. Called CPS. They FINALY stepped in. Took the girls away. I got full custody, filed for divorce, she went to jail. It's sad how men these days are given no options except to "weather through it." Whether for their family, the fear of being imprisoned, or anything else. Hope he wins. Hope her daughter is taken away, and hope no one ever watches or hires her ever again...

That's how it works. Woman is the abuser, you need literal mountains of evidence and even still its a crap shoot for a man to win. However, if a woman says, "He did this and that" the man is triple guilty until proven innocent. JD is just large enough to where we see this all play out by the book. I've said it elsewhere but if the roles had been switched, and it was Depp on the recording antagonizing Heard, this would've been an open and shut case - Done within a week.

well...i think i agree with you in general. i'd add a caveat.
i *will* listen and believe a close friend/family member to the extent of conforting them. like, if my sister talked to me and described being abused and whatnot, im not going to sit there and be like 'ok, but can you prove it?' i'd listen and believe her. and insofar as it exclusively related to protecting/helping her i probably wouldn't question it. However, i would also not take any action against her husband without seeing actual evidence.

As a fellow borderline diagnosed person, all I can say is, she needs meds and therapy. It took me over 22 years to learn my cycles of behavior, and apply skills learned in therapy to get real control. There is no cure, and it's takes hard work and self realization to maintain relationships of any kind! She just needs to be hospitalized for about 6 weeks to get the ball rolling and accept some truths about herself a the pain she has caused other people.
I hate to sound cynical but...you are one of the exceptions. In reality, most people like her won't even bother to get checked. Let alone admitting that somethings wrong with them. That requires true humility and self control. Which people like her absolutely lack.

This case hits so hard for me. My ex girlfriend was horrible to me and when I finally stood up for myself she started turning it around on me, playing the victim and eventually escalated things to getting me fired from my volunteer job and banned from all public social groups I was a part of and kicked out of the only private social group I was a part of (a DnD group that she was the DM for) then blocked me on everything so I couldn’t do anything to reason with her or find out why. My bosses didn’t believe me and my only friends said they didn’t want to get involved and essentially took her side since then did nothing and said that I had to of done something to deserve this.
She systematically destroyed my social life and left me with nobody to help me pick up the pieces and I’m just so glad people are on depp’s side and not letting this stand, nothing is worse for a victim of emotional abuse than having nobody believe them cause you eventually start to wonder if maybe you are the abusive one, cause it’s only you that thinks something is wrong so maybe you’re the problem?

I have someone like this in my life but the people who I meet who also come into contact with them always end up thinking we should keep the relationship and only I seem to know how fake they are acting. And worst is I always feel that I am being gaslit but I don't know if I am being paranoid or if I have a real issue because all my life, it has been incredibly frustrating how every decision I make is put down and I'm told what I should do and told what I want isn't what is important etc.
