Lister Koude start (Lister cold start)

Five years after the cold start test (see 'kromhout koude start') of my previous boat a new opportunity: today 4-2-2012, minus 17 degrees celcius. Now with my new old boat, a small tugboat (vlet) built in 1947 with a Lister HW4 diesel engine (1967). The boat is originally built for Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch authority that is in charge of the waterways). It is now retired and in (my) private hands.

You can tell the owner knows what he's doing and that the engine is in great health. The right oil, fuel treat and plenty of compression makes it light off easily like that.

That is FANTASTIC! I would love a small boat like this with an old Lister diesel. It is amazing that it started so well when so cold. I live in Toronto, on lake Ontario - it does get very cold here in the winter also...Your little 'tug' boat would make a good cruiser for the harbour area! Listers zijn prachtige motoren en zeer betrouwbaar. Ik heb een lister HA 4 op een 25 kVA diesel generator. Start altijd direct.

I have ran equipment with 3 cylinder listers. It is amazing how durable they are. You crank them up when ice cold and you have to run them at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle for a bit then cut them back. We cracked hours and hours they ran for years. In small engines I think they are just best one made.

Kimkoeling, dus gesloten systeem met koelvloeistof. Ook prettig in dikke kroos of als ik door de modder pruttel.
