It's time for Supra vs M4 DRAG RACE! They're both powered by 3.0-litre turbocharged straight sixes, and normally, you'd call this as an easy win for the BMW (given it can produce around 100hp more than the Supra - according to manufacturer specifications at least!). So, we thought we'd make it a bit more interesting, and bring a tuned Supra into the mix! This Z4 in disguise can now put down 431hp and 678Nm! Have the tables turned on the M4? There's only one way to find out... LET'S RACE!

The tune probably doesn't work well in short races like drags.. looks like it only helps with the rolling races and in its top speed. Tuner should have a drag race tune set up. Otherwise it'll just be trash on the drag

That M4 wasn't in Sport mode for the exhaust clip. It always pops and crackles.
Also rolling start in comfort mode should be a win for the M4. No one races to 160 mph.

Hi Guys, the voice of truth coming at you right now and this is for all of you. In my many years of driving and owning fast cars and motorcycles I'm going to give all some sound and sensible advice. Modified cars never last as long as the original specification vehicle, a lot of things go wrong which would have never happened if you had kept it standard and yes I've been down to Evolve too. Secondly when it comes to driving really fast, all cars have their limits and you'll find them much sooner in a modified car and if you are lucky you will live long enough to spend on the suspension and brake components too. That moment when you've pushed your car too far and it let's go 'control' is a real buzz at first then holy shit I've lost control of it, is not one for the faint heart'ed and is a real wake up call so please enjoy your life drive fast in the right places and gain the knowledge to drive fast from the professionals,

Great advice, my generation in general needs to hear this cause I've seen people slapping big turbos on their cars and pushing high horsepower numbers and not upgrade their brakes. I advise them to get a big brake kit (a good one, not the cheap stuff) if they're planning to heavily boost their car

i'd say the same thing bro! how is it that a "modded" supra" with 5,000 invested does 12.3 secs and you have tested a Stock supra that did it in 12.0 in the Toyota Supra v BMW Z4 Jul 6, 2019 race?
@@skip741x3 I did 11.6 with awful 60" and trap speed of 124 mph, so, depends on the tune I guess. I only have dp and bme ots mod.

My ots tune stage 2 2020 supra which is just intake, downpipe and the tune ran a 12.17 @118mph last weekend on stock rubber, spinning like crazy with 0 brake boost. It defintly has an 11.8 in it or better on a nicer day.
That 2nd race being that close could very well be the tires. I may have missed it, but didn’t hear anything about choice of rubber.

What's a car length at those speeds? Not even a tenth, that's why!
At 200kmh a car needs 0.054s to cover 3 meters ( seams like the difference between the 2 cars ). So the result can be perfectly rounded on both cars to .3s.

Stock M4 beats a TUNED Supra in a drag race. Makes sense to me as having an M4 myself. Tuning an M4 makes it into a supercar with some E85. Mine makes 640 WHP.

hey, i just got a 2017 M3 competition package, i wanted an M4 but need the 4 doors. i was going to avoid doing any kinda of engine mods this bc i heard about the crank hop, have you experience anything like that in turning your S55, or is it just a myth? im new to the BMW world so im still figuring them out as i go.

the tuned supra officially has more hp but they reduced to match the bmw. if they didnt reduce the tune the supra would probably have won. and this tuned supra isnt something special there are supra's so heavily tuned that even hypercars dont stand a chance acceleration wise. but yes its funny to see a standard bmw winning from a tuned supra even tho the supra is a little down tuned to match the bmw.

Dual clutch in the M4, and better gear ratios. Power to weight is a good indicator, but it's not the end all be all

12.3 on a tuned Supra? When racing the stock supra did in 12.0 sec, the previous tuned Supra did in 12.1 with few less hp and nm.....
Harder to lauch it seems and the power is not going where it needs and the launch control doesn't work so no wonder

M4 was at a big disadvantage during the roll race. In 3rd gear it was at lower 3,500 RPM with higher 7,500 redline, while the Supra was at higher 4,200 RPM with lower 6,500 redline. I don’t think you guys should do “third gear rolls” but instead choose whatever gear is the best for the speed. There’s no point in using specifically the third gear during roll races because all cars are different and like in this case, the Supra had the benefit and completely smoked the M4, yet both cars are pretty much equal when it comes to acceleration. As long as they’re both in the right gear. Otherwise what’s the point of downshifting and using the wrong gear?!

so the bottomline is that the performance upgrades actually make the Supra slower. on the previous occasion that it drag raced the Z4, it completed the quarter mile in 12 seconds dead!
No. He didn't throw it in launch control since it was modded so he did it manually.
I think it benefits more once the car is rolling the tune.

It's crazy the B58 sounds so much better than the S55 in the m4. If you tune the m4 it will be faster and they respond well to tuning but you need some luck on your side as they are not always reliable and have crank hub and rod bearing issues which could mean a complete engine rebuild if you're the unlucky one and it can even happen with stock power.
well it has an aftermarket exhaust too so not really a fair comparison

For about £2,000, you'll pretty much have a BMW M4's performance. So how is it bad?
@Chris lighter car, same power, lots more torque... I don't think I've seen an M135i, m140i etc etc lose to a stock m car when the tune is right but still has similar power

So.....a stock Supra in other CarWow video took 12 seconds for 1/4 mile, and a the tuned one took 12.3 seconds. Brilliant....
