What other DAW should I explore?
Bitwig is the clear hot ticket now. You need to figure out what kind of producer, what kind of workflow you want. Once will fit it better than the others. I use Waveform and Bitwig, with Reason Rack fitting in.
I have Bitwig. Never installed it.
Cakewalk by Bandlab is my DAW by choice.
Cakewalk is excellent and free
@@nevillepearson2670 Used it since it was a DOS DAW, the problem is it has a more complex UI to learn for noobs and reviews agree the workflow isn't as friendly as more modern designs.
@@nevillepearson2670 hey Neville that’s actually my main DAW.
I have this, the Nuro audio Xvox Pro plugin and the free m auto pitch bundle. It is literally all you need for professional mixed vocals. I love it. That Xvox and Xvox pro plugin is game changing and gives even beginners the ability to get a crazy mix on vocals.
Thanks for sharing. I have to check those out.
FYI: waveform 13 released. It offers a clip launcher and a wave table synthesizer among other things. In my use of it so far which is only been about 6 hours or so, it is more stable than the previous versions.
Ooh. I will try it out.
@@JustDaNorm remember, don't do the free one at first, do the 30-day pro trial
@@scottlarock7924 cool. Thanks
19:00 you can add plugins in the settings> plugins > scanning for plugins > + on bottom left of window > select folder > scan.
If you happen to download more plugins, the DAW autoscans and adds it to the plugins library.
Thanks for that!
Thanks for this tutorial.
You’re welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting
I've been thinking about switching to Waveform myself, and this my first day trying it out. Quantize in wave form is based on fractions of beats, not of measures. So if you want 16th note quantization, then you need to select 1/4 beat.
Yep it’s a great daw. Yep 1/4 is equal to 16th note because it’s 1/4 of a beat.
If ever Cakewalk makes complicated changes or the price goes too high for me I consider moving over to Traktion Wave. It seems not complicated to learn within an acceptable time. Thanks for this intro tutorial.
Np. Thanks for watching . I hope Cakewalk keeps the updates simple and affordable
Hope that too.

I hopped over to tracktion a while back. I tried out the free version for a week, got the hang of it pretty quick. The program also has like "helpful tips" windows when you hover over a tool/panel to let you know what it can do. The pro version goes on sale almost every couple months super affordable.
Thank you for all your fabulous tutorials. I would like to see how to use certain plugins with Cakewalk. For example Stepic, Stochas, Instacomposer 2. Also how to setup some midi controllers within Cakewalk, because some of the mackie settings dont work for some midi controllers, ie essential keylab mk3 and would like to learn how to set cc settings. Once again thank you for all your helpful tutorials 😊
Sounds like great video ideas. I will do some research and see if I can make some videos about those plugins and controller
3:43 You have infinity Tracks in the free version also
Cool
@@JustDaNorm WHAT THE HELL? I NEVER KNEW THAT SOMEONE SO POPULAR RESPOND TO ME-
@@Fasslos I’m not popular. Just another guy trying to learn and share as I learn.
@@JustDaNorm how if you have 5k subs thats a TON
@@JustDaNorm idk also how to make a beat in waveform bc i just have a mic :/ (you are you have 5k subs tho)
Hey !! Tracktion waveform is my main daw , and i like everything about it, but one thing it lacks in is to add external skins , i dont know if we can add or not but in case if it's possible to add some cool skins from some external webs then plz let me know 🙏
I know you can change theme settings, adjust colors etc. I don't know about adding external skins though. I haven't seen any websties that have skins. Some sources say that the customized skins stopped after Waveform 7
yes I tried this DAW in the free mode! it is not an intuitive DAW but sounds great. I invested more than 4 hours in, and I’m very not desapointed at all! I have bought a couple of the tracktion synths that I use very often ! asure bet IMO.
So far its a decent DAW. I will dive back into it soon
I would love more videos on Tracktion. I am practicing now on Audacity which is free, opensource but I think professionals joke about it.
I use Audacity as a quick editor. It’s cool for audio but doesn’t handle midi
I figured I would get my feet wet with Audacity @@JustDaNorm I'm still struggling to make my first beat lmao. I'm still not sure what a Midi does although I read about it. Even my phone has an option for midi, no idea but I know I will get there🧐
No track limit on the free version.
Thanks!
Good video, but I hear a TV, baby or fish tank in the background?
Yep I apologize for that. My kids were in the background. It was one of those weeks that I never had free quiet time to record.
how can I change de Sample rate and bit deph for a project bro.
I made this video today. I didn’t see how to set bit depth for new project but you can export it at different depths. Hope this helps.

It's got live input monitoring? That's cool! Of course we can do that on the audio interface, but in the daw where you can add effects to the monitoring? It can bypass the analog to digital converters? I don't think Cakewalk can do that. Great tutorial 👍
Cakewalk has this feature its call the “Input Echo” button. You can find it on each track.
But overall yes Waveform is pretty nice.
@@JustDaNorm input echo is accurate...it adds echo 😁
anyone know how to change a midi file destination?
Hello I apologize for the late reply. Are you trying to save your midi files in a different location or are you trying to locate midi files saved elsewhere in Waveform?
@@JustDaNorm I have an electronic drum set plugged in to my pc via a USB to USB B connection and whenever I try to render the midi as audio it says there is no audio detected.
Look at 16:10 again, those notes are DEAD on 16ths for START TIMES. Every vertical line in the display is an 8th, so half way in between them is every 16th.
Quantize can't help if your content was too far off. Always look at the MIDI before doing the initial quantize. If you RUSHED it all, grab them all and SLIDE THEM BACK to where the first note is SPOT ON the 16th or wherever you want it, then quantize and you'll be HAPPY. Same thing with all being LATE, slide them ALL forward to put first note spot on, then quantize. If you were EARLY and SLOW in regions, you have to do the work to move those regions closer before quantizing.
Lots of amateur musicians rush or play late. No big deal, just either learn your tendency and always check and fix as part of your routine to quantize, or practice hard by recording and force yourself to play more on beat by reviewing each recording as you practice until you're spot on. Lots of musicians from Carol Kane down had to woodshed like that after being told their time was sloppy in the studio, didn't believe it as a PRO musician, then checked and had to admit it was TRUE!
Thanks for your input. Also you have to take in consideration latency. Latency can affect your timing while recording.
I normally use Cakewalk and don’t have this issue. This is the first time I used this particular DAW. It does work a little different.
Yes nudging will help prefix issues. Normally quantize will still put everything in time it may change what was originally played but it’s shouldn’t still be speeding then slowing down.
@@JustDaNorm I've never heard of a single DAW that experiences record latency with MIDI, only audio. None of those I use ever do that.
@@brianmi40 If you use virtual instruments you are using a combo of midi and audio so even though the data looks like it’s lined up perfectly it still can be milliseconds off. So sometimes you will have to edit more intensely to get the feel you want.
The best way to really see where it’s starting is to look at staff view or look at midi event list. This will tell me “Yes I started on measure 1, beat 1, but a few ticks off.
How to download?
www.tracktion.com/products/waveform-free
Yes don’t like all the stuff you have to do to use the step sequencer. But everything else is ok.
Thanks for sharing. I am still exploring the DAW.
Have you tried Zen Beats by Roland I’m trying out this daw, it a lil different but I wanna learn it.
@@i_am_thuglife I have not but I will look into it. I love Roland
